The face that launched 3,000 pts of SoB was actually my wife (say awhhh ) - it started as her army but she got bored and I just went on and on...

For my Tau, I just loved the Railhead.

The orks I've just started - STOMPAS!!!!!

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

I second this!!! This is the first model I painted that I was actually proud of. I also try to field on in every game

When I saw this unit I knew it was the start of my Ork army. Me going with the pink scheme (yes I painted that) was just to make sure nobody could take the game seriuosly playing against me. 2 more Killa Kans and my army will be ready.

The greater good needs some moo.

Some of my armies were based on seeing a model - some, not so much...

Chaos Daemons:

The movement in the new juggernauts is just amazing.

Chaos Marines:
Not really model-related. My wife and I started these under the old chaos dex, and it was the daemonettes, and mounted daemonettes that did it. Chaos marines themselves don't do much for me.

Eldar:

I like the sleek looking tanks. Also the harlequins. I don't like cone-heads. I have no guardians in my eldar collection.

Guard:

Vostroyans are the reason I picked up guard. I still haven't done them justice...

Orks:
Pretty much anything in the range...

Witchhunters:

For me simply the original and OOP Nazdreg model and his bad moon mega nob squad.
Nazdreg was one of the first models I had and still have.
There is no where on the internet where you can find a picture of this model.
Seen as i'm a much better painter now i'm reliving the old days with a new twist and have stripped the original of all paint and plan to repaint him soon.
Pics when i'm done.

I've already posted him in this thread, but here's a picture for reference. Here's the Warham that launched me into this hobby:

(Not my picture)
I got him as a gift when I was a kid, painted him up in some horribly hodgepodged Ultramarines colors, and was well on my way. After that it was the Space Hulk Terminators, who I've since repainted for my Crimson Fists:

Terrible picture of them, but at least this one's mine!

Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. Core has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. For my Tyranids, the plastic Carnifex kit was what drew me into playing 40k in the first place.

For my Chaos, it was the Thousand Sons.

For my DH/IG, it was the Grey Knight Terminators.

For my first army, it was the Skaven Jezzails - the older ones with the barrels as big around as the rat's whole head!

The Brets...were on sale for half price, so I grabbed them.

For the Dark Elves, it was the new version of the Cold Ones. Raptors have always been my favorite dinosaur.

Eventually I'm going to do a Lizardman army specializing in monster madness - as many Stegs and such as I can cram into the list.

The thing that got me into 40k wasn't any specific piece of art or a model.

My freshman year in college, one of my friends was telling me about this game that he played, and bugged me to play a game with him. So he pulls out his Space Marines, makes up a force of about 300 points for each of us (remember this is just an intro game run by a friend). The end of the game comes down to an epic battle between a dreadnought (his) and a sergeant with a powerfist (mine). I was sure to lose. Instead I ended up rolling about three 6s in a row after he whiffed with all his attacks.

I don't remember exactly what the rules were, but I think this was in 3rd edition because we went to the 2002 gamesday in chicago, and 4th ed. had or was about to come out. That's where I bought the Battle of McCragge starter set. Later when I bought the Space Marine Codex I loved the picture of Shrike and decided to buy that model and do a DIY chapter with him as the Captain.
