I used to play the old MB Hero Quest game. I loved it. Someday, looking some comic covers in a store, I saw a weird magazine with the Hero Quest dwarf from the character card pictured in the cover, at left of the name, White Dwarf.

It was the issue number 12 from Spanish White Dwarf. Ye'Olde Blood Bowl cover. I bought that magazine and I couldn't get out :(

For Blood Angels, it was definitely the Death Company models (the old/just OOP plastic and metal hybrids). I love the posing, and the decoration of the armour that made them stand out to me. I have to say though, the new DC models look AWESOME.

For Tyranids, this guy:

When I restarted my 'Nids, I made sure to grab one of these really old OOP Lictors, I'm a huge fan of them

I love the 'Alien Queen' Hive Tyrants too, but they didn't make me want to start 'Nids, that was the really ancient Lictors.

Edit: I have to say that the 3rd edition artwork by John Blanche of the Black Templars was what truly got me onto Marines and 40k though. Ultramarines first (sorry), then two armies worth of Blood Angels, the 2nd of which is still going strong.

The Tyranid Warrior inspired me for my Tyranids once it got changed a couple editions ago.

Grey Knight Terminators got me to start that army.

For Fantasy, I knew I would always play Lizardmen, no single model, but the entire line.

For me, its was about 1998, just getting out of the army and at a local music shop. I picked up This.

Not sure what it would be i put it in and was Blown away with the awesome sound and aggression of it, A friend of mine who played seen it in my Car and told me it was the Space Marines from 40k and i was intrigued so i had to check it out. I have been a Lurker for quite some time now but with some Gentle prodding from the wife to get a more Social hobby then sitting in front of the Comp with WoW after work. I finally took the plunge and got my Marines started.

Yeah, one Emperor Titan and 4000 points of IG later, I still love that pic.

Personally, I think that I was truly inspired to work on a half dozen conversion projects after seeing the Image of Yarrick that has been the IG codex forever. I ended up makeing and brakeing loosing four iterations of a Yarrick model with that sick battle claw, and then I made his bane blade... I eventually got my heart broken by seeing my diorama on a 40mm square base of him surrounded by living and dead Nobs shatterd on the floor. I gave up and bought the 2nd ed model instead

6000 points IG, Leviathins 8th company, (store regiment) 60% painted
4500 points Empire 80-90% painted!
2500 Ogres 2% painted
WIP Biker Battle Company 95% painted
2500 Points Isstavan Drop site massacre Iron Hands (still waiting for dat codex)
I managed to play a 1750 point game with minimal proxieing on the first day DE came out. go me!

Theres a really, really old White Dwarf mag that had a picture of an Eldar War Walker. Its long gone now but that drew me to Eldar.

Funny enough I can't stand any other GW model except maybe some of the Space Wolves. I can't bring myself to collect those though. Way too many SM players.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

When I first collected Eldar, it was the Jes Goodwin sketches and the picture he did of the Avatar that made me go nuts for them.

Back then the Avatar model was smaller than the average space marine is now...

Amazingly it's that guy. When I read the article on the assassins in WD whenever that was (96, 97?) and it was accompanied by that sweet illustration of the Eversor stalking down a corridor, that's when I wanted to do 40k.

I'd just borrowed the magazine froma friend and then realised this was the way to go. Wierdly, I never actually started collecting until 2 years ago, and it was Eldar. I'm doing an Inq. Guard force now, and I will certainly have room for this guy and his equally-awesome brethren in my lists.

My first army ever was a White Scars SM army. I think it was the old metal SM Dreadnoughts that hooked me into getting into the game. I didnt stick with marnies long however.

Space Hulk and this art sold me on my second (Genestealer cult) army:

Love the fluff and idea of the genestealer cult. The older genestealers, magus and Patriach figs ooze character and are still some of my fav GW figs.

I think is is shameful that GW has removed chaos/genestealer cultists as actual army options from the game...

Although I don't have a marine army anymore, I still have that Space Marine Captain with Terminator Honours on the bottom left on my shelf. I used to think he was the coolest miniature in the whole range (besides some of the Dark Angel captains - specifically the one mentioned here and the Terminator Captain).

When I decided to own a 40K army it was between the Tau and Eldar. Eldar came out first and loved the models.....when the new Tau came out and saw the models, it was this model that made me choose Tau

And for my Lizardmen army

Not exactly a model....but I love reptiles....from lizards to dinosaurs...so when I say the Lizardmen range....it was a no brainer for my part in which army I would choose for Fantasy
