Show your pets Dakka! Or tell stories about your pets. Or tell us what kind of pets you have (had). Or just bask in the glory of other people's pets.

Of course, remember not to upload non-wargaming images to Dakka.

Bask in the glory of Poppy! He's a five year old Blue and Gold Macaw we adopted through the folks over at PEAC. Right now he's trying to entice me to go pick him up.

Former pets-
Max, German Shepard, Deceased- Max died when I was real young, like one. Overly protective; once bit aunt for tickling me.
Troy, Black Irish Setter, Most Likely Deceased- He replaced Max. We had him for twelve years. Loved everyone. Granted, most were afraid of the eighty pound brute running at them to say hello.
Bill, Former Stray Cat, With Grandparent- My mother was given Bill at a plant store near a former house of ours. A condition of our adopting the kitten was that my father got to name her. Noone knows why he chose a girl's name. Would eat dog food out of Troy's bowl.
Kelly, The Other Cat, Deceased- Very shy and hated Troy.
The Pig, Green Iguana, Murdered- Poor bastard found dead in the plants. Enjoyed baths (as they entailed being tethered up outside, then escaping and being chased around the yard).
California Pets
Bry, Black Lab Mix Thing, Deceased (I think)- Dumbest animal I have ever seen.
Chewy, Black Lab- Very similar to Troy, although much more cowardly.
Jake, Black Cat, Near Deceased- He's about nineteen. Favorite activities include laying on mousepads and sitting in front of bathroom.
Pidge, Parakeet, Deceased- Liked to mimic the noises from shooter games.

Funny (Depending on Perspective) Story-
Prior to my birth, my father had a Nile Monitor. This sucker got HUGE. Unfortunately, he fell ill. After visiting a vet, my father decided the best course of action was to freeze the poor lizard and have him skinned. After sticking the lizard in the freezer for half an hour, my father left the lizard in the garage to thaw out. And wake up and escape. He was never found, although the police did put out alerts to keep an eye on children/pets.

Filbert, I like your taste in phone it's the same one as me haha.

On topic, here is my 1 year old (and a few months) rough Collie (Tri colour) puppy Milo, he's that nice and kind he has cured my friends fear of dogs.
My friends fear was to thepoint he would run from a dog if it came within 5 metres of him.

He is my best friend, i've raised him and tought him all the commands, looked after him couldn't ask for a nicer dog, dogs really are a man's best friend, in my case anyway.

He was a sweet doggy. Still laugh my ass off every time I remember him running around the house and not quite clearing the dining room wall. His eye was flinched for the next 10 mins.

Ah, here goes:

He's about that size and colouring.

@FITZZ - Could be tricky, what with living in an apartment and all. That's the main reason we haven't got one - that and we can't agree on the breed we want!

I want this fella:

Because they are fething awesome. My missus wants something needy, like a retriever or summat. Boo!

Exactly,if we get a dog in the apartment it has to be a "small" dog,I'm not a fan of "small" dogs (yappy, shaking, ratty things),so for now I'm holding off..
Maybe I'll just get them a cat .

Oh,I love the Bulldog BTW

@FITZZ - See, a Bulldog meets your needs perfectly, as they only need to be walked once a day, for 30 mins. They hate exercise! That's why I want one.
Also, they are the friendliest of all breeds I've ever encountered - they just have bags of personality.
The only thing is, they are pretty expensive - they can occasionally have health problems too, although no more than other pedigree breeds I would imagine.

As I type these words my son is excitedly inquiring if we can get THAT dog (the Bulldog in you post) ,and my "Missus" says "He is adorable"...looks like I may be "Bulldog shopping" soon ...
If I buy one I'm naming it "Big AL" in your honor

@FITZZ - LOL that's awesome! But just to reiterate, I would look into their potential health problems first - Vet bills mean less money to spend on Killa Kans...

One of your best bets is to look at animal shelters before you start looking at breeders. Animal shelter dogs tend to be better behaved(albeit FAR more protective of your family) than ones you raise yourself, and they're good "starter" pets with kids.

Plus, you're doing the shelters a huge solid and relieving them of having to put down an animal that otherwise would be a fantastic companion for you and your kids.

Shelter animals CAN have behavioural/health problems due to abuse or neglect (by their former owners, not the shelter!) - but yeah, it's definitely worth considering. There are specialist bulldog shelters, too.

Charley (the big one) and Lily (the little one) are our "other" children. Spoiled rotten, but such sweet dogs.

Charley with the boy. They are all buddies (at this point at least). Whenever the boy sees the dogs he just smiles and laughs. They come up to him and try to lick his face, but I try to keep that to a minimum.

Former pets:
*Cobra Killer (my Betta Fish): He died last Monday
*Luke and Laia: a couple of shelter cats we had a few years ago. When we moved we left them with the wife's family

I've had other pets, but I'm too lazy to post them.
