Like the title says, do you enjoy converting or scrath-building models? I'm just curious.

And if this is in the wrong place, someone move it.

This should probably be in the painting/modeling section.

I clicked yes.
I really enjoy modding characters and one offs. Metal or plastic, it's all fun.
It's nice a little problem to solve. A few standout models and conversions or changes to stock/single pose miniatures can really make an army stand out.
The problem comes when I have to convert dozens of troop types because i don't like the stock poses or the options don't exist.
Then it becomes a bit of a chore.
I'm not a fan of GWs more recent, 'Yeah the model doesn't exist, build your own' campaign.
That's gonna get old quickly.

Quite simply, I doubt anyone will say no. See last months White Dwarf's Standard Bearer (about the only time the words of Jervis stayed with me) fror reasons as to why people convert models.

For once, it's not a waste of paper!

Sometimes, every now and then I get it horribly wrong though and give up.

Pretty much the same as everyone else!

The first thing I do when I pick up a new kit or blister is look at ways I can swap out weapons and heads, right the way through to re-building entire parts of tanks and so on.

I will also horde left over parts or even buy things (not always traditional hooby stuff) to use for converting. One of my favorite things are the cogs and gubbinz you get inside desk top printers, they are great for beefing up engines

I hate painting with a passion, but converting is a lot of fun. A while ago I just finished a Guardsman in the process of reloading his lasgun; it's just nice to have a few "different" models in the army.

I kind of want to get some Ogre Bulls just so I can convert some Ogryn (which I'm not sure if I'll ever use).

As many have said it's my favorite thing. If I have to point to one article that got me into 40k it's an old one from the RT-era Compendium where the 'eavy Metal team shows off their plastic conversions. They point us to model kits, toys and other places for bitz to make custom models.

More than anything that's what hooked me.

My current Tallarn force is probably the least converted army I've done.

It what makes your army unique and yours. It can be anything from a simple way a model carries a weapon to the whole model itself being created from bits and pieces here and there.

Frustrating.....sometimes

Worth while......definitely

I'm a terrible modeler, so I don't really care to convert. That said, I'll do the odd weapon swap here and there. I guess I'm lucky in that the choice of army that I play really doesn't have anything in it that requires converting.

like every man in my non ABOR army is modded, some just how they hold their bolters, some with missing plates of armour, and even a couple with whole bodyparts missing, in the case of my obj markers.

Currently working on a guy throwing a krak grenade, with half his helmet missing, and even bits of his skull.

should look awesome.

Definitely. It's absolutely my favorite part of the hobby, and I've got bitz order receipts from the Warstore.com to prove it.

Infact, my biggest annoyance is one piece metal models, usually because there will but some aspect of it I desperately want to use, but it can be a lot of work.

I enjoy painting and I enjoy gaming. I dislike assembly which means I also dislike conversion.

I think my most rewarding projects have all involved digging out an old model that I've lost some of the parts for and either scratch building replacement parts or finding reasonable replacements.

I don't have any problem with conversions, My problem comes when you do something perfectly reasonable and then find out that the overly simplific rules "Improvement" have made the conversion obsolite, or remove the options so that your conversion just has a nice spot in your box somewhere.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. I love seeing a good conversion but I'm not good at it myself and I don't enjoy it at all. I've got terrible hand eye co-ordination.
