I have heard a terrible rumor about the plastic daemon prince model.

I have heard that the master mold of said model was broken during transportation and the model will not be released for quite some time(many many years), if ever

Has anyone else heard such rumors?

This is old old news, GW has confirmed this by pictures. Even back when the new Warriors of Chaos were released, in the codex they had pictures of a model that looked like the Daemon Prince. They still haven't released it out. Maybe when 8th Ed comes?? I don't know.

I can only hope the damaged part of the mold was the section of the sprue that the heads are on...

Now we all know the molds are expensive to make but it is not like they could not make another. I can not see any way that not making the mold would lose them less money then making another.

I thought maybe they were just ashamed because of how horrible the thing looked (not just the heads), but if that were true then why did they release the minotaurs and razorgor for Beastmen? They clearly don't have standards so the mold really must have broken.

I really have to believe it would be insured, though if someone else did the damage (a shipping company) it might take a while to recover damages.

Ah well, it's not like I was going to buy it anyway.

It is an old GW tradition to play Rugby in the warehouse with expensive steel moulds. Luckily, only 10% of all moulds are destroyed that way before release

Apparently, mold transportation is pretty dangerous business considering all the molds that have been lost over the years.

Maybe they should hire The Transporter to get the mold to its location safely.

all rumor and speculation
a 1 tonne mold would be very difficult to damage.
it is complete, as are most of the not released plastic and metal Daemons.
Why they aren't releasing them, well, thats anyone's guess.

Someone over at Warseer stated that the Daemon Prince mould actually cracked and is now in the process of being redone. This causes the delay of releasing plastic seekers as well. Harry said this sounds about right.

I worked around injection molds for 12 years.

And not only did I never drop one, one was never dropped at all.

This whole 'dropped mold' thing that pops up now and again?

I don't know...

Maybe the dropped bit is wrong but 'damaged' is correct. Do new molds ever fail? Do they ever crack the first time they're used or turn out to be unusable? I really don't know.

Someone here on dakkadakka started that "maybe it wasn't released because the mold got damaged" rumor a few months ago. Honestly, does anyone really believe that!? How about the more plausible explanation that GW would like to fit it into a specific release slot? GW plans their releases a year or more ahead of time, carefully apportioning a certain amount of product each month and relating it to coordinated marketing campaigns. Models are often finished months and even years before release. It would be nice if people could be patient and rational instead of making up crazy stories about why models are "delayed".

they're probably just waiting for the next chaos daemons wave to release it, I wouldn't put to much emphasis on these hearsay rumors.

no the convoy was ambushed by anti gw terrorists who wanted to not let them release that model because it would make every gamers eyes explode in disgust.

If it "would make every gamers eyes explode in disgust," wouldn't the terrorist capture the mould and make a zillion copies of the sprues with which to bombard us?

Well, nothing does apparently, so if that's all it takes to delay release then we wouldn't have anything BUT Marines.

And I think what you're describing is more like wargaming freedom fighters, not terrorists.

I was under the impression that a styrene injection mold was made from steel... Is that not the case?

Regardless, perhaps the molds were being shipped and the ship was taken by Somali pirates? I hear they've got a boat with 33 T-72 tanks on it as well.

The model has been waiting to be released for 2+ years. If GW were going to coincide it with something, it would/should have been released during the last codex daemons release. Quite frankly I don't think there is a good excuse in my opinion. I mean GW releases random non coinciding SM models all the time. Personally I feel the ultra pro SM GW marketing stance creates a black hole effect in 40k.

At this stage, it will probably be released either a)during the next codex chaos release (Probably sometime next year at the least. Hopefully earlier if GW fast tracks the release) or b) never.

Really? I thought they cut the head off a chicken and let it run around on a big board with words on it until it died, and whatever it died on would be the next release.

And every second word is 'Marines'.

What would you get if you took Razorgor eyes and put them on a Daemon Prince head that was itself mounted on a minotaur's body? And then gave it Nagash's hat?
