Well, after another interesting thread got bombed, i thought id make a warhammer one.
I dont go on much other than tactics and looking at other peoples models in the PM blogs, obviously i dont post in there, because i have fingers like sausage rolls and paint like Stevie Wonder. And i rarely post tactics, because my skill for tactics in real life seems to have sucked my tactics from tabletop gaming and i suck badly.
Anyway, i easily spend the most of my time in here, and aside from Mods and Jeb, i hardly see anyone from OT in the other areas either.
So my question is, what armies do the OT regulars play mostly, and why? Ive often wondered this, as many of you seem to just come here for an argument, and i started to think maybe some of you dont even play and you just come here for the giggles.
Ill start, being a Marine through and through IRL, i always play Space Marines, and Ultramarines specifically because ive started them from scratch and ive painted about 2000 points worth the last 12 months. Its also because i know that it annoys the elitist, predominantly ginger smelly people who say its just for kids. And im 30 and confrontational.
I also have some imperial fists, and some eldar, but i decided they are a bit girly looking and ive only basecoated them then abandoned them to my drawer. And i also like Orcs, which i play as occasionally at my mates house, and tyranids cos they look awesome and i like the idea that they are just hungry and not malicious.
And i wont play necrons, chaos or dark eldar because they just seem TOO evil for me. And the DE especially because they look like some sort of.. space perverts.
What do you OT veterans play?

The username probably gives it away, but I play Orks in 40k, have done since the very start of third edition. I sometimes post in News and Rumours and Tactics. Someday I'm going to figure out my digital camera and post in painting (I'm no great shakes at painting though, so I'm generally not that motivated.).
I love the current ork book because it lets me build a lot of different, viable armies. I recently started a little Crimson Fists army because I like the AOBR plastics and the colour scheme. I also have some Chaos (Plague Marines- No lash!) that I never really play anymore because I don't enjoy them that much.
For fantasy I play Orcs and Goblins and Dwarves. I have some beastmen and lizardmen that sit in a box neglected, too.
I collect Mordor and Moria in WOTR, which is piles of fun, and Trollbloods in Hordes, which is slowly taking over my gaming time. I've some random other bits and pieces too, but that's the lot. I play once a week at least, sometimes twice if I can get an opponent, and I try to go to tournaments when I can.

Yeah, same! I haven't managed to figure out how to get decent shots of my boyz yet....
For my part, I only play Orks in 40k, and have just got a load of Bretonnians in WHFB, in addition to the Dwarf and O&G armies you get in Battle for Skull Pass. I haven't played WHFB since I restarted the hobby, but it was the only game I used to play. I just love the fantasy setting, can't wait to get started with it.

I don't know if I count as an " OT veteran", since I'm relatively new to Dakka, and many of my posts are in the P&M forum, but hey, you can only all gang up on me and beat me to death with words
I play CSM on the few occasions I have ever played. Though I have lots of other armies too. Played with my Orks once and it was a disaster. Still not played with my IG or tyranids (most of which I have now sold or traded anyway - I got them when the old(er?) rules were out and they seemed to be much cooler ).
Just swapped loads of my VC (which I have never played with) for more IG, though I think I have enough for a small battle if I make some proxies

I play Chaos, if anybody doesn't know yet. I just like being the bad guys really.
And I too am a shabby painter my army is also coming together REALLY slow. It's not so much my if anything tolerable painting to waiting a month or two before a nice new unit that would bore people in a blog to death.

Not exactly a veteran but I post a lot sooo.
For fantasy I play mostly Skaven but i have a Dark Elf army also, I do post quite a bit in those forums.
For Warmachines I play Khador.
I am starting to dabble into 40k and will more then likely be playing Daemons, simply because i can use them for fantasy and 40k.

Orks, Grots (IG), and occasionally what's left of my Chaos Marines. I'm actually thinking about revamping my Ork army, they've been neglected for quite while. (Well, so have the Chaos Marines, but I'm not that happy with how they've turned out in the new codex...)
I've been neglecting the rest of the forum since last summer, as I wasn't playing much at school.

Again not a veteran as such but I tend to post more in the OT forum than anywhere else.
My first army was Empire, I didn't ever stray from this army (except for the odd impulse buy) I still have an old metal Empire force which I can never see myself parting with even though I have never gamed with them. I also have a few LotR bits which I treat more as collectibles than anything else.
For 40K I started out with Imperial Guard. I loved the Catachan metals when they first came out, those coupled with the original Leman Russ kit (which was so much better than any other GW tank at the time) had me hooked. However I am a very slow painter (as in I paint slowly, not that I am special needs!) so I decided to have a bash at Back Templars (before they were cool ) as I could just spray them black, a few red and white bits and the army was ready to go. Howver I made the classic mistake of buying way more than I could paint. I then lost interest in 40K for a few years. Eventualy I got sucked back into the hobby with the new Orks, I fell in love with the new sculpts and the Stompa kit was the the final nail in the coffin. I am now an Ork addict.
I still occaisionaly make the odd impulse purchase, but my Orks have been my focus for the best part of 2 years and have been the only force that I haven't lost interest in during that amount of time.

40k: Orks, they were one of only a few armies that noone around me had, the new range were being done and I have been very happy with both the minis and the codex. I love them because amidst the carnage and grimdark and loathing and misery, Orks in the 41st millenium are having a great time! Their sadistic childlike love of 'gettin stuck in' and 'avin a larf' rang true with me. I am thinking about my second army and remain patiently waiting to see just what will come of the Dark Eldar, being suitably different to Orks.
Fantasy: No army at present (well, I have a 10 year old vampire counts/undead army but I have no love of them any more, I liked the Undead army but lost interest when it was split). I'd love a massive Empire army, a warriors of chaos army themed around slaanesh and a wood elf army.
Necromunda: I still own The Obsidian Sisterhood, an Escher gang I did very well with back in the day. I miss this game, it was really good.
I'm interested in Warmachine but am torn by the aesthetics (and currently having noone to play) I like the Cynar infantry and characters (segsah girls with goggles) but I love the Khador jacks. It's a dilemma.
Again, Infinity, I am amazed at the models and the detail and again, I like certain models in one range and certain in another.
Malifaux... All that stuff looks cool and I'd like to try it out.
Battlefleet Gothic, I'd love a big Imperial fleet, love the look of the ships and have always loved space battles.

At some point, I hope to put together my Ork Banditos army. iEL WAAAAGH!
Personally, I like making terrain and stuff more than actually gaming, but I don't have the space to put together my vision of an Eldar Craftworld terrain set.
Terrain making, and developing tactics are always the fun part for me. I'd like to take the time to put together summaries of different units, with pretty pictures, tactical guides, and statistical averages for the unit. Charts and graphs are what 40k needs more of... definitely.

Like Silver, the majority of my posts are here and in the P&M section. I far prefer painting to playing. And arguing to agreeing
40K: SoB, about 2000pts of which about 500 is painted. it took me about 3 months to paint Celestine and a squad of Seraphim :S

I haven't really "played" in quite awhile, since I've been focusing more on actually getting everything up to snuff. But, here's what I'm working on:
40k: Mechanized Cadians set up to be a sort of "Inquisitorial Clean-Up Crew", with Chimera detailing kits(seriously. I'm doing the interiors and everything. They're going to be gorgeous when I'm done), full faced respirators, everything I can do to make them look as much like the faceless might of the Imperium.
I'm also working on a homebrewed Dark Angels Successor Chapter, "The Order of the Grey Blade", which the jist of will be a Successor Chapter formed to hunt down a specific member of the Fallen who has thrown his lot in with the Alpha Legion and is acting with them to prod an Ork Waagh! towards a fairly important world.
Fantasy: I've started planning out a Wood Elf army I've wanted to do for quite a long time. Again, it's not going to be something canon but I'm going to find a good spot in Lustria where a lost colony of Asrai could have secluded themselves. The Naggarothi/Lustria pine barrens is lookin' good for that.
It's a toss-up between mountain Elves or swamp Elves at this point though.

I wouldn't call myself an OT veteran (yet) but I hope that doesn't mean I can't reply to this thread.
For 40k I have my Praetorian Imperial Guard army that just seems to keep growing and growing. I have recently bought 1500 points of Space Marines which I will have painted up as the Aurora chapter (they are tank heavy in the fluff which means they are aces in my book). I doubt the Marines will be expanded past 1750 points, however, because I simply do not have the room for two huge armies.
Other games include Warmachine (Cryx and Mercs) and Battletech (House Davion and Magistracy of Canopus).

I play Squats 'as if" Space Marines and Nilla Marines.

Well,I have the 2 armies I play in 40k posted in my sig,but I have also played Dark Eldar,as well as Skaven and Undead warbands in Mordhiem.
I've never played WHFB,but have on several occasions toyed with the idea of a Skaven army.
Now,as to why I play the armies I do.
Orkz are just pure fun,and I love the whole "There is no problem so big ,that we can't beat it to death" bravado of the orkz.
As for my Death Guard, I enjoy the gallows humor of the DG,as well as the "How the mighty have fallen...and now want to take you with them" ideolegy that seems to go along with them.
Plus I love converting/scratch building so both armies are great in that department.
