Seriously, why? Can't people just learn to like each other? This is the 21st century, we live in an integrated society with every race imaginable, but people can't talk to their neighbors because they're black/latino/asian/middle eastern? It's sickening how traditional people actually are. I used to think that every generation was getting slightly less racist as they went along, but that's just an illusion. People are probably getting more racist now that they have to share jobs, stores and restaurants with other people.

I'm not saying any of you are racist, nor am I racist, But I've been around racists. These aren't 4chan racists saying the "n-word" just because it sounds cool to them, these are people who would rather see others killed before they share a restaurant with a group of people. It's disturbing.

Maybe I just overestimate people. Maybe people really are not capable of tolerance.

Incidentally,4chan is what got me angry with racism. I doubt many of those people on 4chan are actually racist, but it's still rather disturbing to see so many disgusting people in one place. God I hate 4chan...

I think there is an argument to made for genetics. We're hard wired to pass on our genes, or failing that, the genes of somebody related to us. Based on our lizard brains, we see people of the same race as similar looking, so I think it's possible that we assume they're genetically close (spoiler alert: probably not).

Politics (and racism is an extreme form of politics) is the art of distributing finite resources. People don't want other groups sharing their resources.

Finally, you're most virulent racists, as a very general rule, tend to be on the lower end of the socio economic scale. Racism is a way of feeling better about yourself. Now, most of the worst discrimination is performed by the powerful, but that's usually less out of hate filled racism and more due to economic racism.

Why does racism exist? Fear.

Skin colour gives an obvious, though totally superficial, point of difference, so it is not surprising that humans form groups based on that.

The development of racism as a theory of superiority -- usually be whites over others -- developed historically due to the accident that European nations developed advanced technology first, and used it to conquer most of the rest of the world. Racism provided a convenient reason and excuse for this behaviour.

Why is it usually white over others? Thats a misnomer. Its usually "us" vs. "them."

The population is made of people, and people have predjudices against people that are different.

Probably because of their environment. The more inhospitable the environment the more violent the natives. Vikings are a clear example of this.

As far as racism in the modern age goes... there will always be idiots. At least until we develop a reliable way to test intelligence levels and begin purging or confining those of us that are lacking.

Actual archaeological evidence suggests that development can be patterned from easy travel outward from the fertile crescent. Asia didn't develop more quickly than the west, however it did develop differently in the millenium BCE and afterward (different is a relative term though, all civilizations developed differently from one another). African and mideastern civilizations arose and fell before the advent of recorded history and respectable civilizations existed before the traditionally asian portion of the continent was heavily inhabited. Harsher climates do not directly lead to a more agressive or violent civilization and for most of their history (and most of their population at all times regardless) the vikings were peaceful agrarian farmers. The vikings arose long after countless bloody civilizations rose and fell in the fertile crescent, africa, south america, and asia.

Racism exists because humans are not creatures of logic and knowledge of genetics and evolutionary history, human psychology, and biology are rare. Actual understanding of the science underpinning racial differences is the best way to combat racism, a creed of tolerance will only truly gain traction when it has some backing in either a scientific, experiential or spiritual sense.

Works until you realise Europe is probably one of the most hospitable places on earth. In terms of it's water, climate, fertyile land, wildlife etc etc. Asia, less so.

The reason why, has more to do with Europe's naval technology. Not because Europeans have a unique natural taste for conquering other nations, that's evident in every race.

Actually, just about the only real reason is the consolidation of technological superiority combined with maritime capability. When you can't expand by conquering your neighbors you expand by going somewhere else. Europe was hardly the birthplace of agressive nationbuilding and colonialism is simply the logical step foreward enabled by advanced naval astronomy and existent fleets of boats that are worthy of the open ocean. There are examples of vassal states and empire building over long distances in the east such as the mongol or persian empires. Rome was famous for this long before galleons were sailing around the world.
