I was just told that my dad signed me up in the 'other' category, and wrote model painting, at my local fair. (The Woodstock fair for my CT brethren) It happens to be the night before its due, but I took some pictures to show dakka, and incase anything happens to it.
This model is also my first model that I used badab black wash on. Its my new favorite wash

It looks better Irl, and yes, I took the name Reven from KOTOR
Looking at these pics, I spy a few areas that need touch ups, but other than that, its done.
C&C welcomed
[EDIT] I was at the fair today, my marine (and the two pieces of art) I submitted all won first place!
[EDIT] I got the model back, and new pics are on page 2!

Thanks. If he wins, I'm going to do something extra special for him. I don't know what yet.

This is going to sound pretty cheesy, but it's pretty amazing that your dad supports you like that. A lot of parents, mine included parents aren't ignorant of the hobby or anything, but they don't take an active interest like this.

Good luck in the contest!

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...

Yeah, he doesn't take an active interest in 40k itself (though I've tried getting him to) but he loves to look at my models when I finish.
And thanks. I'm dropping it off tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it fared sometime next week. (or this weekend)

It wouldn't win any contest I would judge. No offense.

If you can't finish the base, it can't win any contest.

The model is nice though, just do something with the base.

I don't think it was actually entered into a gaming event of any sort. If its a county fair its most likely going up against craft stuff like painted picture frames and knitted hats or whatever. But its pretty cool that his old man was all about entering it.

OP- Good luck man

Whatever the contest is, this model is pretty sweet looking and the base being incomplete does not draw the attention away from the obvious care you took in painting it. Of course a completed base would be preferable, but judging by your painting level I would say you already knew that and didn't need to be told here.
I agree with Ordo Dakka; the fact that your father supports yor intrests like that speaks highly for your relationship. I am sure you know how lucky you are.
Best of luck!

A county fair? Put a little piggie on the base. It will win for sure!!

that's a plenty nice looking model, whether you win the contest or not.

The only way it could be quickly, easily, and obviously improved from where it is right now is to drill the barrel. 10 seconds with a pin vice or an x-acto knife and a bit of black or boltgun paint will do wonders.

The red though is nice, really warm color. You might have used a bit to much badab on some areas, and to little on others but those are the faults that really only show up on pictures.
I really love the rightt shoulderpad for some reason.

It's a shame the cast is pretty bad, the gun is just aweful. Although you could not have done much about it.
May I suggest using some of the newer plastics. They are really nice and in my opinion beat most older GW metals on all points.

DRILL THE BARREL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Yes that was necessary.)

Its a painting contest, but I didn't have time to base it any way.

I'm going to once I get it back. I'm going to have my dad help me (hold all the models of course) while I drill out all their barrels. It really bothers me, but I'm lazy.
You comment (and everyone else's) has sparked me to drill all my barrels, so thanks.

Don't worry, all my Sternguard will have extra detailed bases. My usual bases are just baking power 'snow'
I may add rocks, or some barbed wire, or something to make them stand out.
If he places, I may GS him an appropriately colored ribbon with correct number

All the other vets had good sculpts. This one was a little wonky, I fixed the scope, and attempted to fix the gun, but I was afraid of breaking it.

I'd recommend a read through the thread.

This has been judged for a county fair, not a serious Mini-painting competition.
