40k happens to have covered every single possible Sci-fi stereotype. Its very hard to think of one that isnt the same as another.

WIN. G-cubes. I had a game where an entire dungeon map was filled with the bastards.....The wizard just casted a bunch of random blasty spells and we won, so---Er, I digress.

Techno- whales and other marine mammals. They've got little platforms on their backs that hold Sea Gorillas. They shoot harpoons of energy out of things called "Whalepoons"

I was evil and had an entire room just be one large G-cube.

Did it have a certain color? Green cubes piss me off more than other colors

I think chaos tau would be a cool idea...Or chaos Nids! Chaos Orks! Chaos Daemonhunters!

Id stay away from the very ancient idea, its been done enough in 40K. The Eldar and Orks are already really old, and the Necrons are from the time of the Old Ones, the C'Tan are even older.

As far as idea for a race...dragons. Think of it, every one of them could count as skimmers, armed with a breath weapon that counts as a flamer/melta combo, killer CC options too.

A mercenaries 'dex would be pretty fun for a DOW-style army but that's about it.
We really, really don't need any more races in 40k when quite a few need updates.

I read something a bit ago

it was by ronin-sage and he said

The only other new race I can think of would be as an above poster implied, a druid-like faction, "stewards of the galaxy", whose "alignment" would be True Neutral.

They would be the ancient, natural enemy of Chaos, but not necessarily good. Basically, they wouldn't hesitate to purge entire Imperial star-systems, if it meant defeating Chaos, and then mysteriously disappearing.

would this work because it makes sense

or a few people have suggested doing another horde army

what do you think

I remeber in the last WD I bought, Jervis Johnson said GW plans to add another army into 40k but it's a long way off, cause they want to get through all the other codexs. My guess is that it would be another imperial faction (adpteus mechanicus proberly), so if another race/faction/army was to be realised it would be shortly after 6th edition is done imho.

Surely we need more space marine chapters!?!

Most of the gameplay options possible in 40K are covered, meaning that a new race would not really have a unique place in the game.

The only real option I can see would be a very heavily psychic race.

You mean how the Eldar were supposed to be

Also I hate to give them ideas, but Ravenguard would be unique enough. I don't think there's a stealth army yet.

A fully fledged kroot kodex would be fun. Or demiurg, Barghesi with their rampant aggressiveness. Just say no to space dwarves..

Eldar have some pretty good psychic powers, however, they also maintain a lot of the standard troop types and tactics of other races. What I was meaning was a race almost entirely dependent on psychic powers to the exclusion of most of the standard gameplay tactics covered by the other races.

Space Samurai! Considered doing this with a Marine or Guard sub faction but that is a lot of work.

Dragon army? You mean Exodite codex? Bring it on! Tree-hugger elves on massive flesh eaters! I can see it in front of me, the shooter units would ride small fast dinos and the CC units would be packs of dinos lead by only a few Eldar.

SweetLou wrote:a army of centaurs

I believe there is such a race in the fluff already. I can't remember their name, except they are centaur-like in appearance (the horse bodies are bio-machanics, combat suits) and they lived in peaceful co-existance and trade partnership with the Imperium until the Imperium decided they needed to die - and entire Astarte chapter wasn't enough to defeat the - as it turned out, the crossbows they carried around weren't ornamental but actually advanced plasma tech.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Zoats. Reptilian looking body and slave race to the Tyranid hive mind. Pretty much not heard of in recent editions with the tyranids current focus. Only centaur like race I can recollect in 40k.

Shapeshifters. Various forms could have different statlines, and shifts could be triggered by their hq units. Much like The Thing, they could spontaneously reform and reorganize units, or coalesce into larger monstrosities.

Thinking of Joining a Davinite Loge

Somewhere in the dark...

i'd like to see a human/eldar cross. we could go back to the age of strife where a large colony of humans became stranded in a very distant star system. the same star system could have been the location of an eldar craftworld (not sure if the fall and the age of strife happened around the same time but the idea could still work with a bit of tweaking if not). The craftworld could have come under attack from someone (not the humans) and suffered a some kind of catastrophic failure so, the eldar's only hope was to use their psychic abilities to hide themselves. They did this by channelling the combined psychic might of all the eldar on board to create a similar effect to the grey knight's shrouding but on a massive scale. however, something went wrong - the psychic power destroyed the eldar's attackers but also cut off the star system from the rest of the galaxy and effectively 'hid' it. The eldar had to abandon their craftworld and over time bumped into the humans.

The two races had no choice but to share resources - maybe the psychic storm made life difficult, maybe the planets in the system were survivable but not very hospitable. Or maybe there were gigantic predators that were too much for either race alone to handle. Whatever, humans and eldar lived together and eventually cross bred.

The 'Humar' for want of a better word wold not be restricted by the backstory to 40K because there would be no adeptus mechanicus to hold back technological progression and the eldar would not be bound by their path doctrine so they would have developed in a completely different manner to the armies that exist in 40k currently.

In terms of a playstyle, perhaps we could see an army that is highly technologically advanced in defence to differentiate themselves from the rest of 40k whose armies right now are basically all offensive in different ways. Any new army could be based around being able to absorb large amounts of damage, rather than having to avoid it.
