Think about it guys and gals, the past three years have been dominated by mechinized armies, as well as MC characters. Why is this you may ask? Because bolters can’t stop the adance of Rhinos or Chimerias. And Monsterous Cheatures are high T and can dish out the pain.
This is the Meta Game that we have lived in. One where you HAVE to have every troop unit in a transport, and one where every unit has to have a melta gun, if not multiple.
Here comes the redeming quality (as far as GW ).
Hello AV 13 BA spam! Hello any Mech Apam there is! Hello MC heavy Tyranid Armies! My name is Dark Eldar! AND YOU PRAY I DON”T TAKE YOU ALIVE!
Dark Lance spam may not be such a problem since DE warriors are 9pts a model, but lets face it, they have the best anti-tank capability in the game. And poisoned weapons are the best anti-MC in the game too.
Plague Marines don’t have Shi^^ on them. And those precious AV 13 front Blood Angels armies are turned to husts of flame. Oh no Horde armies? We have templates to cover thee entire board!
I’m not saying that Dark Eldar have broken the game. What I’m saying is that they have BALENCED the entire game. This is the greatest thing GW could have done. Now if you have any questions about them just ask, otherwise state your argument.

REPENT for tommorrow you DIE!!!!

I think there is always a difference in how an army looks on paper alone, and how it performs in practice. I think DE having a current line will change the metagame, but I don't think it will shatter the metagame completely

I think the metagame will be changed mostly because of the addition of D.eldar armies. I think we are going to see a few more of them around our local clubs. The difference between the old and new, is that the new does not have the same saturation of dark lances.

The fact that the dark lance spam lists have been "fixed" I think greatly reduces the impact of an increase in the number of dark eldar armies in the metagame. I'm not sure we will see that much of a shift. I'm not even sure it will give the top dogs more difficulties than it did before, IG and SW still have a ton of long range anti-vehicle shooting, and the low durability of the dark eldar vehicles is not going to stand up to the alpha strike lists that tend to dominate.

Not everyone is going to play DE, either.

Makes me wonder what the next Xenos armies are going to be bringing to the table. Certain skeletal robots mostly in mind...

Got a friend that's been playing DE since they came out. He looked at the new changes and wasn't impressed. He is still is going to play them.

I've been playing DE since they came out in 98 and I for one am thankful to finally get a new ruleset and models. I dont care if they would have made the army something totally different, just showing they cared was all that mattered to me

Dark Eldar have always emphasized Speed and Initiate in CC.

I dont see this changing.

As far as balancing the game I would agree. Another army that can be played well is good for everyone.

Wasnt impressed at troops that can actually stick around and get objectives? [wracks]
Wasnt impressed at gaining an extra 7" movement on your critical skimmers?
Not impressed at being able to move 12" and fire all 3 lances?
Wasnt impressed at the sheer amount of poison and templates you can put out?

Really?

Sounds like it.

Yes, it requires you to change, as you wont have the points or lances you used to have (warrior cult)

Boohoo. After 11 years I would WANT to change! From reading through the books there are easily 3 or 4 initial good builds, depending on how you want it - haemi led, asdrubael for the 4+ make guard worred roll, venom trueborn, reaver heat lance, and so on.

Local IG are worried - DE could be a pain previously, however they now have even more chance of getting into the parking lot, etc. Ultimate glass hammer - but what they *should* be.

I for one am stoked, I'll be starting fresh with this new army and codex, I've never played anything aside from SM and CSM, so this will be my first xenos army and TBH, it's the first xenos army that I've actually wanted to play. It has the right balance of finesse, power, and agility, to break up the monotony of the game. It'll be good to spice up the table with some more un-power armored flavor.

I currently run a very fragile zerker fluffy army, however even that is like sheet steel in comparison to DE. Which I'm *really* looking forward to - a challenge is good, otherwise the game gets boring.

IT also helps that my hubby is going to start DE at the same time, hellion and reaver led (mainly for giggles) to complement my wytch cult plans. Aim is to have two themed, colour scheme complementing armies ready for March UK Indy GT.

I'm very happy to see the changes brought by the new DE codex. I've played them since '98 myself. Yes I see changes to my list. Thankfully I'll now have options to field a variety of units.

He's not bitter about it, and he didn't mind change. He loved change for his Nids. It's just he wasn't too terribly impressed.

I can see dark eldar forcing players to bring less monstrous creatures and less high av vehicles. Beyond that, most players know they die like elves.

Thats my point though, I dont know how anyone who is a Dark eldar player can be unimpressed. New models, New units, New fancy rules, more fluff, more character.... Maybe if you explain WHY hes not impressed, short of not being able to Dark lance spam. Which you can blaster spam now so its no big deal.

He loves the new models, but won't just flat out explain why he isn't impressed.

The local meta doesn't do alot of mech (only People that do are my tau [as of like 3 days ago], his Dark Eldar, the IG player, and the guy that runs full Thousand sons in Rhinos) so lack of Dark Lance Spam wasn't the reason.

Wasn't Impressed with Vect's siezing on a 4 ( Word for word quote from him " That's cool and all, but getting the first turn also means your opponent gets the last. Last chance for the final kill point or to contest an objective.")

All the extra poison weapons were "ok".

There was more and I've forgotten most of it. He just wasn't all the impressed in general.

You can choose not to seize.

Build a fire for a man and he will be warm for a day; set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain.

Sly Marbo doesn't go to ground, the ground comes to him.

Okay in objective games, going last can be a boon. Its debatable as to whether that balances out the first turn alpha strike, but thats a debate for another thread.

AFAIK seizing initiative is a choice, so the DE player can opt not to roll.

In KP missions though, seizing the initiative is always a good thing. Getting first may not be, because it allows various deployment responses. Seizing, however, does not allow your opponent to react and gives you an alpha strike. There is no downside to seizing initiative in 95% of KP games.

And just like with every codex, alot of people will buy the models, not like the army as much as they thought they would, and go back to the army of their choice. Your point being?

Isn't that how it should be? Would be like taking down a challenger Mk. II with a Desert Eagle. lol.

Also I dont See DE changing the meta game all that much I mean they used to have Lance spam and still have hard hitting close combat units and the like, that rocked any mech armies boat.
All I see is DE got some more options to make them better and what the used to do, and they used to do their job pretty damn well if you ask me.

Although now they will be more popular.

Just had a game against them earlier this evening. Wych cult lead by Lelith. Overall, not too impressed with the army aside the absurd mount of attacks pumped out by a wych squad with a hydra fist. Couple that with a FnP token and that is a damn tarpit that swallows you like dry quicksand.
