okay, so I wanted to convert a larger-than-normal transport for my SM, without having to spend all those points on a LR. So, after getting some inspiration from an old, long dead thread here (can't find it now) I decided to make an uber-rhino. This involved cutting two rhino's back ends off, putting them together and filling the gap with plasticard. Now ive made it, however, I can't decide what rules to have.
this is what i've got so far:

pts- 100
transport capacity- 16
access points- 4 side doors, front assault ramp
can carry jump infrantry.
weapons- 2 SB
AV:
12-11-11 (FW rhino reinforced armour)
extra armour
hull-mounted TL AC

any tweaks?

So is it going to be larger overall?

Or will it be wider/longer?

What FOC slot does it use and/or what is it a dedicated transport for?

On first glance I'd probably say up it to 100 and play test from there (better to start high and work down in my experience), mostly as with its improved front and rear armour its actually relatively much tougher then a rhino (front versus most shooting and rear protects from assaults). Also I'm not sure what carrying Jump troops ought to cost (do they count as two models as the thunderhawk/storm raven?)

okay- can carry 16 and jump infrantry count as 1? (less capacity, but not 2 slots per jump infrantrman)

well for the rear I have used the vindicator front, without the siege shield or demolisher cannon, so it ends up like the front of a rhino but with more armour, so I think 11 works best.

If it's going to be longer, I think that'll look pretty silly...

Just my opinion buuuuut.

Have you considered the problem you are going to face trying to unload 16 troops from something that is not much bigger than a Rhino? Unless you put in more doors you are going to find it very hard to disembark within 2inches. `it is hard enough with a Land Raider when you can take an assault move almost straight away to alleviate some of the troubles. Also is this for vanilla marines if so what is the point in having a capacity of 16 models? It can't carry terminators and the maximum squad size of vanilla marines is 12 (squad + 2 independent characters). If you are playing SW I can sort of understand as you can have 14 BC + WG + Character but then you need an assault vehicle otherwise they loose their point. All credit to you for coming up with the idea but I just don't see the point in it. I can see why you want a more armoured rhino and possibly one with an extra two slots and maybe a third fire point however what you have suggested does not seem to meet the criteria. Oh one last point - why do you want jump infantry in a transport it will completely negate their strengths.

How does that Negate a Jump Infantry's strength?

This makes them even stronger because they get something to hide in as they move foward.

I could easily see this moving forward 12" first turn popping smoke, next turn my Assault Marines get out unharmed and get to eat a unit. Plus since there's extra room I could stick a Sanguinary Priest in there.

and incase you haven't read anything of what he's written, he's already got a conversion ready for this that will make it bigger.

the rhino doesn't look wierd (much) and GW made one in one of thier old white dwarfs. (or dwarves if you're tolkein ),so it can't look that bad.
5 SM can get within 2" of the rhino door, right? Well, It has 4 doors, so 20 SM can fit, so it's not a question of how many doors there should be.

so 2 units- that can be a captain, command squad, and tactical squad

I don't think there would ever be a vehicle carrying bikes unless it was flying, but I think you got it right.

Maybe make the rule that only one unit can use the assault ramp a turn if there are 2 units inside.

fair enough. there might be one if it was big enough... I might make one, similar to a LR, but no hull weapon, and low-power sponsons...

hey- to make it have more offensive power, should I give it 2 autocannons/TL autocannon and raise the points?

I think that if your giving it an assault ramp you really shouldn't be adding any more offensive power to a transport. After adding weapons you'd probably just be better of taking a land raider for the better fire support it provides.

What about actually giving it a transport capacity of 20 for the normal version, jump infantry counting as two, and then making a semi razorback version that gets less capacity but the turret you mentioned?

thanks for the support. It's a 16-capacity AV 12-11-11 razorback-rhino hybrid, with 2 SB (standard) and a TL autocannon (instead of TL HB)
so it's the weapon load-out of a rhino and razorback, got the troop cap. of a rhino and razorback, but 1 more AV on the front, but joined together. How many points do you reckon?
I think it should be the combined points of a rhino and razorback, and the slightly better turret mount and slightly increased AV should compensate for the fact that they can't split up.
So 75pts. Fair?
