...Catwoman and Bane, per the LA Times. Anne Hathaway is Selina Kyle, while Tom Hardy is playing Bane.

Little surprised at the choice of Bane. Not sure he fits the Nolan universe, although it's obviously possible they have their own take on the character...

Interesting choices! Tom Hardy was excellent in Inception, I thought. Anne Hathaway has an interesting duality; still able to give that clean-cut affect from her early roles but also able to play something a bit crazier and wilder (Rachel Getting Married).

Meh...

Michelle Pfeiffer would kick Anne Hathaway's acting ass.

Could be okay, if they fast forward a bit- say 5 years.

I'm really interested to see how Bane is portrayed.

Gibbering idiot with a drug issue?

Genius with a self-imposed drug addiction?

Maybe a great fighter that becomes a savant when given a certain drug?

Lots of ways the character could be taken.

Tom Hardy was very good in Bronson. I'm keen to see how they handle Bane...

I know nothing about Anne Hathaway, I've never seen her in anything. I don't think she has 'the look' though. She seems fairly 'girl next door' instead of 'purring wicked leatherclad psychotic anti-heroine'.

I think Bane could work quite well. Catwoman... well, we'll see what they do with her.

I always thought catwoman worked better as a heroine (or anti-heroine) than as a true villain.

Check out Rachel Getting Married, Stompa. Watch it with the wife. She's the crazy sister who just got out of rehab. She can do the shift from nice girl to wide-rolling-crazy eyes thing similar to Pfeiffer.

I had really hoped that Talia Al Ghul would be one of the "Villains".

Oh well, guess we shall see how this turns out.

I'm with you. The hulking-Mexican-wrestler-looking-guy-with-genius-I.Q. just doesn't seem to fit the Nolanverse. There almost has to be a different take on the character.

I'm wondering if Nolan will go a "Jekyll and Hyde" Route with Bane?

I think that Tom Hardy was an awful choice for Bane, though Hathaway is certainly an interesting choice to play Catwoman.

Unless they are going to digitally enhance Hardy's size somehow, he's smaller than Christian Bale is. This makes little to no sense to me.

Seems Mr Nolan has a knack for getting excellent performances out of people.

Nice call...perhaps. Fits well into a duality theme for the movie, which could work given that they're hoping to wrap up the story with this one. Seems like at some point Bruce is going to have to come to terms of some kind with his dual identity.

And I suppose Bane also gives their Batman something he hasn't had yet in the series...a mental AND physical match. Although again I tend to think they'll need to give Bane the patented Nolan "realistic" touch. In the real and realish world, big guys who beat people with their fists get gunned down pretty quickly.

That may be a hint at the characterization. The short guys are often the most aggressive.

That said, Hardy is no slouch, and what often goes amiss in Hollywood is the fact that being exceptionally muscular is not tied to height.

It's not the performance I'm worried about. Tom Hardy isn't a bad actor (though I've never seen him appear in anything without his accent, which worries me a bit). He just does not even remotely resemble the character he's supposed to play. With other villains or comic book characters in general, it's an easy fix. Makeup and masks generally tend to make any actor appear suitable. However, Bane's entire premise as a villain, the thing that makes him a threat in the first place, is the fact that he is fething huge.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

He played an American serviceman in Band of Brothers. His accent was good, although he wasn't really in it much.

Bane is actually supposed to have a Central American accent, though I doubt that Nolan will really care too much about this little detail in his reimagining of the character. Not that I mind much, just saying.

Totally bemused by these choices (actors and characters) but I admit my eyebrows raised very sharply when I heard Heath Ledger was playing the Joker so got to have faith in Nolan. He's on a very short list of directors that have never failed me yet.

Bane has some interesting stuff in his origin that could be used, but so far, Nolan has done better than the comics in each of his films, making more developed and intelligent characters out of gimmicky comic book villain-of-the-week.
I always wanted Nolan to do Bane and Knightfall, but I felt they needed another movie to do that arc justice, to build up the feeling of mounting insanity in Gotham and the brutal toll being the batman was taking on Wayne's mind and body (always my favourite part of the otherwise sorta cheesy Knightfall story).

Well, remember that pretty much every "interpretation" we've seen of Bane has been the muscle-bound brute...

So, for non-comic readers or people who grew up on the cartoons it is a "new" interpretation
