I just wanted to pause and take time to reflect upon how others view the general respect and civility on the DakkaDakka forums.

As we know, no one is perfect and there are times when our emotions or rhetoric get the better of us. And we have moderators to help mediate the worst things that may be said.

But I want to know how others feel about how you are treated on the forum/how others are treated on the forum.

If this is more a General Discussions thing, please move it there. As always, I place it in OT if it doesn't fit in other forums.

I like it here. With a few exceptions, everyone around here is pretty good. While we all have very different opinions, I have met only about three posters who take things far too seriously.

One of which BLAMED THE VICTIM!

The censor/swear filter is such a nice touch.

And remember, it is far easier to get angry at words than people. There are people posting those thoughts. They must believe they're right, unless they're trolling. Try to see it from their perspective.

There's really only a handful of posters that I think are actually as awful as they seem on the forums, and one of them is gone forever anyway. Most people are either busting balls or actually having a reasonably intelligent conversation.

Dakka's a pretty good bunch, all in all.

Its better than the rest of the internet, which is really all that one can ask for.

Hell, its more civil than a couple of classrooms that I've been in.

Well, with two (now banned) posters standing as notable exceptions.

When I did the DeffRolla Petition, I was perma banned from 11? other sites, mainly due to getting into it with other members about how stupid I was for wanting to do that. One site even banned me because they said I started the fights, by posting the petition total WTF moment there.

Anywho, Ive seen the hospitality(or lack there of) at alot of other sites. A few were decent and a couple even tried to help out a bit, but DAKKA is FAR more civil and open to at least hearing you out. As well, Ive only really disliked maybe 2 or 3 people on here. And what is there like 20k members or more on DAKKA? Id say thats pretty decent

And only a couple times have a mod PMd me to calm a situation or what have you down, and they were more then willing to be pleasant about it. So much so, I cant quite figure out how others have gotten the perma ban.

I usually stay out of the very touchy threads, but most of my posts somehow are the pebble that derails the train of thought of the current topic.

Case in point: the opposite gender thread.

I've also gotten the Mod PM, and I have messaged an apology to the person I was rude to, explained my situation, and he understood. We now get along quite well.

Overall, Dakka is a haven from most of the Trolls that inhabit the interwebs.

IF it is a religious fight, vs threads, political battle, I stay out. As I am a teenager and I do not know that type of stuff. And I cannot make a legitimate claim that could be supported by evidence.

Well the DAKKADEADLIEST threads were Vs. threads, Im sure you could chime in with no problems there

By and large I believe we have a pretty good bunch of individuals on Dakka,things get a bit heated from time to time,nature of the interwebs,but for the most part even when they do those involved make the attempt to remain at least partialy civil....most of the time.

Ah. Hooray for an empty ignore list, as people only occasionally troll, it happens to the best of us. I bet I probably have before. I only know of one poster who utilizes the ignore list.

Even the most antagonistic of posters (and one or two of them have posted in this thread) keep it civil compared to most of the internet.

I actually think the worst poster on Dakka is a mod, but even he is nowhere near as bad as people I have seen on numerous other forums I have frequented in the past and managed to simply ignore. I think part of that is the fact that Dakka is purely a community, rather than a community that revolves around a game, where favouritism can be shown in a competetive or semi-competetive venue and tempers subsequently flare. Sure, there is "favouritism" here, but that is human nature, and it seems to be the kind of favouritism designed to try and improve the site, not to elevate an elite few. Even if people don't always agree with the decisions, the motivations behind them seem honest and decent.

Having said that, [DCM] > The rest of the subhuman scum who inhabit this place, subsisting like bottom-feeders or worm-like parasites on the virtuous and noble few.
