I thought all the ad and DCM money went into their "Booze, Hookers, and Retirement" fund, but due to budgeting restraints, they had to get rid of the retirement part?

It's mostly civil. Some (very few) posters do put on quite a show, though. And sometimes, the prevalence of British and American posters leads to some eye-brow raising situations.
I think it's pretty nice here. Most posters are fun, nice and comprehensive, even helpful and tolerant.

What's worse, the Brits losing to French and ragtag Colonists or Americans needing France's help to win their independence?
I kid, I kid.
These forums are pretty civil, better than most official gaming forums I've been on.

France is usually associated with Wine, not cheap beer. The US is associated with cheap beer. It would be nice to blame someone else for this but it is our own fault.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I have very few qualms with Dakka, it's a really great website and the OT forum is a wonderful place to discuss, argue and just joke around. It's really a community as much anything can be on the internet.

I think the Nazi Religion thread has been doing quite well so far. Even the posters that would ussually be antagonistic have behaved themselves there.

OT was historically not moderated as heavily as the other sections of the board. That is changing, especially as the number of reports increase. there is no reason that Rule #1: Be polite, should not be active here.

I am and always have been a man who believes that you should be able to say absolutely anything you like as long as people can retort. I think that grown men should be able to sit and call each other names as much as they like in the OT forum, save the rest of the board for talk of minis, the gloves should be allowed to come off in here, and they never do. The mods lock threads just when i am starting to find them amusing!
If you recall the furore people made over the Muslim march through WB, i was all for it. I think we should never ever censor people under pretty much any circumstance, as long as I and others are free to respond.
I enjoy dakka, but all it takes is some fether to say I am "bashing" their Religion, and its an instalock. Its an absolute joke frankly. This is occuring in every single facet of our lives, it must be If i notice it on dakkadakka as well as every day in the news, and it is why Islam is able to get away with so much, and why Creationists are able to lay the smack down on sensible Americans so much.
And yes, by "bashing" I mean disagreeing with the ridiculous unverifyable claims they are making, or possibly disagreeing with being needlessly cruel to gay people, mutilating womens genitals or telling kids lies.
It aint fair, but life aint fair. Im not whinging about it, or i would be over at warseer, im just answering the question.

And yes, by "bashing" I mean disagreeing with the ridiculous unverifyable claims they are making,
This is where I begin to start getting sick of some people. There are those who will politely 'disagree' and indeed even state that they themselves have little that is verifiable (I already make it known that I have little evidence) and it'll all go nicely as we eventually agree to disagree.
Then there are people who will not only bash my unverifiable claims, but will go on to fervorously state over and over that I am wrong, that they have evidence that is irrefutable and 100% verifiable as true and will berate me for defending my beliefs. Its these people who I have problems with. Homosexuality? Fine by them (fine by me too, but using it as an exmaple). Sexism? Needs to be cut down. Racism? Needs to be cut down. Someone else following a religion? OMFGHANDMEMYMACHETTE!.
Stating over and over that you can disprove X claim and then never actually doing anything bar mocking me and people like me is not arguing. Some people need to learn that (not just atheists/theists, but other people in other situations too).

Actually, one thing I do agree with is what mattyrm just said about religion. It is a personal beef of mine that religion has a "get out of jail free" card in real life that allows it to be cruel towards people with impunity if they throw the word "belief" in there.
I would say that Dakka is quite repressive about allowing people to expressing negative attitudes, even politely negative ones, towards religions or religious figures that would be permitted towards political parties and figures. Honestly, threads have been closed for things said about the Pope that some mods themselves would say about Obama.
One argument is that this is a forum about painting little lead toys. Another argument is that this is an off-topic forum.

Not everyone who posts on Dakka is an adult.
Most posters don't want to be called names when attempting to debate a point. In fact I would suggest that if one is reduced to simply insulting another poster instead of debating the issue at hand, then one doesn't really have a thoughtful argument or point, merely an opinion.
