I know there is a ( recently necro'd) fav book thread, but I think having a seperate one for graphic novels and mangas can't hurt (mods if it hurts, feel free to tell me and lock it)

My favorite graphic novel is The Watchmen. Great read.
Favorite manga is Bobobo Bo Bobobo. I literally laugh while reading each one, multiple times.

Favourite manga is the 'Record of a fallen Vampire'. It's short, only about 40 chapters, but it has aliens and vampires so it's awesome.

I've only really read one manga (that I can remember), Claymore. It was okay, I guess.

As for comics, I thought the Marvel Civil War was very interesting.

On the topic of vampires, I also love Hellsing. Last book (13 iirc) wrapped it up nicely

Comic? Watchmen. And an old DC comics Otherworlds compendium (Had some cool stories, like a rebel Superman who takes on the Kryptonians who now rule Earth, impelled by an old and slightly crazier Bruce Wayne).

also, Batman Black & White. Still sorry I didn't buy it when I had the chance. & Sandman: Dreamhunters.

Manga? Hmm... One Piece, Berserk, Vinland Saga, Soul Eater... can't really put my finger on one.

Fave Graphic Novel.... Batman: The Killing Joke. The end explains the relationship between Bats and Joker almost as well as the end of Dark Knight (movie)

Not a Manga fan, but the final issues of DC's Bold and Brave was also memorable.

Favorite graphic novel: The Walking Dead

I have liked it for a long time. I really hope he hits 500 issues like he says he has planned. The show looks promising too!

Favorite Manga: Full Metal Alchemist

I liked the anime too, but it kind of deviated too much from the manga. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood however is following the manga a lot more.

Favourite western comic is Sandman. Easily the Sandman. Far and away the greatest thing I've ever read.

As for Japanese comics... Hellsing and Deathnote were good. Although Deathnote really started to suck after vol. 7.

I have to concur with Fafnir. When I hear great comic, Sandman comes to my mind first and only.

I don't read manga, so I've got no opinion on those.

My collecftion of Judge Dredd comics. It's probably not a proper graphic novel, but it's certainly equivalent to a Manga (in proper English style of course).

I like my comics like I like everything else: With lots of guns and blood.

Which is why I love the Punisher Max comics.

I also quite enjoyed some of the Marvel Civil War comics.

Have to admit to not having been exposed to much in the way of comics, though I hung out with a few comic book geeks at university (which is where I read all the above).

Oh, and Johnny the Homocidal Maniac was good fun as well

Dr. Slump. Simply bliss

I don't know what this obsession is with the watchmen book. I actually bought the thing, and was completely disappointed.

Naruto, bleach and (later) one piece come in second. One piece finally got good lately, after that awful alabasta scenario thing. Bleach has always been wonderful. Naruto is pretty good, although I haven't payed attention to it since pain died.

As far as American comics go, I'm not sure. How about "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" It's very much a classic, a representation of everything that's good about classic superheroes such as Superman and why it's okay to not have an anti-hero.

Sometimes what a story needs is a true, bona-fide hero. Doesn't mean that they don't have flaws... just that they try and do the right thing without hiding behind "dark". Even in 40k, there are the occasional true heroes, and indeed their rarity makes them shine all the brighter.

It isn't obsession. It's a good book. Just that. Maybe in a couple of years you'll enjoy it more. I guess it has to do with how much you expect. I was talking with a friend about the Godfather movie, and he wanted to see it. He described an inexistent scene someone told him about, with Vito Corleone just having to "nod" to his thugs to kill someone, as if it was a "cool!" gansta movie.

I told him the best I could that the movie isn't about that but I still think he's going to be disappointed when he sees the movie.

My least enjoyed arc was Skypea, I just found that boring. Naruto was already becoming bad and lame by that time, and now even more so.

Funny, I stopped paying attention to it after the chunin exam arc and just watched it for the battle scenes because the story basically amounted to "wah sasuke come back" "no, I must kill my brother" repeated ad nauseum.

I'll cheat, and slide Akira in as my favourite Graphic Novel, and Lone Wolf and Cub as my favourite Manga.

In terms of Western comics, my favourite Graphic Novel would, I guess, be either The Ballad of Halo Jones or Button Man.

A thousand times yes! I knew there was a reason I liked you.

I really like the Batman v. Dracula series, too. The IDW Transformers books are pretty neat.
