Subject: I have lost faith in the music industry completely. This is worse than Bieber.
Okay, I hate Justin Bieber with every fiber of my being. But even he, before being signed, could strum a few chords and carry a tune. Even if he wasn't anything special, there is a very small sliver inside Bieber's girly-body that has talent. This is just...I thought it was The Lonely Island at first.
Is this the final nail in the coffin? When this girl gets signed?
This isn't selling out. Selling out would mean lowering your standards or changing yourself to meet the wants of the popular crowd. I am in Highschool, and I have not met a single person who likes this. Who is it appealing to exactly? There was a point in time where to be signed to do music, you had to actually produce some form of musical talent. The talent might not appeal to all, but there had to be something that seperated you as a musician or artist.
There is not one shred of musical talent in this. This is the equivalent of pulling some random chick off the street and getting her to sing her daily journal over a repetative beat. The lyrics are crap, there's no instruments, she's not singing, and she doesn't even dance. Where is the talent in this? Who seriously sat there and thought "This sounds good, let's give her a record deal." She's a troll, pure and simple. She's only famous because she is SO bad, and so many people view the video because it is SO bad.
I've been playing for, recording for, and generally being involved with local bands for almost 7 years now and I've watched lots of men and women with craploads of talent try ridiculously hard to get their name out there. The fact that trash like this gets music deals and the countless, actually talented, musicians are denied, forgotten, or not given the chance to shine is both upsetting and disturbing to me.
And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Kids in my school were talking about this today, so I guess it works. The music industry has been pumping out bad music for ages, the point is that it is quickly forgotten about. That's why people are always going on about X era's music being so much better than today- they usually only look at the good stuff or their favourite genre in it's heyday.
Leave the kid alone, it isn't her fault. I wish her all the success for as long as it lasts (odds aren't good for it being that long). It is a difficult industry to get into and the music isn't for me to begin with. She won't be getting my money or attention but she won't be getting my scorn either.

She isn't especially worse than the majority of "talented indie bands' I've been told so much about in my 25 years.

Btw, that's already happened.
Feth, she isn't even singing. That's just the freakin Voice Change doing all the work.....

There's a thing rich people's kids can do now where they get taken in to a music studio, and the studio will produce a song for them and make a film clip. Thankyou daddy for spending $10,000 so I can play at being a popstar for a day.
It's basically like vanity publishing, except that instead of a book that no-one reads, you end up with a song no-one listens to. And exactly like vanity publishing, just occasionally you'll get something that's so terrible that it becomes fun to laugh at.
That is the story of Rebecca Black's Friday and it's millions upon millions of views on youtube.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I guess if people like the way this kind of thing sounds, that's fine, but honestly, most popular music isn't very deep. Artistically and musically. It's just too generic and repetitive for me. I guess your average person who doesn't know much about music only cares about catchy choruses, but as I know a good deal about music, it takes a lot more to impress me. I'm not going to act like I am better than everyone else for this reason, but they must admit that my musical knowledge is in fact superior.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, the reason why most popular music sucks is because most people don't know enough about music to know what constitutes true musical talent. So really, that's why they like pop music. As I said, I really couldn't care less, but that's seems to be the case.

Honestly, at my school this song is horribly popular. People sing it in the halls and large groups of people are known to belt it out in the middle of classes

Are you sure they aren't just mocking it? Because the way some people in this thread are talking, the only reason why this video has so many views is because of how bad it is.

If we are going to talk about vanity projects, we really need to talk about the Smith (Will and Jada) family buying their kids way into fame. They are doing it with more than $10,000 though.

I don't know why people keep using Autotune. To me it sounds like vomiting into the microphone and a lot of people hate on it.
I mean, I guess if you like the way it sounds, then use it for a song or two, but when you use it on every song, it makes you seem painfully talentless.

And what's more, since it's so easy to use, they overuse the crap out of it.
It's just like digital editing in movies today. Just because you can cut so easily doesn't mean you have to do it so often (I'm looking at you, Micheal Bay, you talentless hack). People can still appreciate long shots (thank you Anton Corbijn!).
Still, like digital editing, digital audio editing allows you to create some really cool sounds that are difficult, if not impossible to create in physical or analog environments.

As was said on another thread on the same topic:
It was ever thus.
Ignore it, and it will go away.
Copypasting Youtubs just helps give it more hits so don't do it.
There must have been more bad pop songs made than good, some of them unfortunately just get caught up in a breeze and take off. The seventies had more than its share of dubious novelty songs and pap pop that jumped to the top. Was too busy listening to Pink Floyd et al to say music was really bad.
