Subject: I have lost faith in the music industry completely. This is worse than Bieber.
Has anyone played it backwards for the subliminal satanic message yet?
It sounds to me that she is saying, Bomb Libya, start the apocolypse, now!."
Just goes to show how little effect these subliminal messages have on peoples' minds.

No one gives a crap about talent. They want to hear music they like. If enough willing customers like it, they did good enough. Commercial writing isn't dirty, it's just commercial; like being a WAAC player in compositional form

In many regards, yes. In many others, no.

Mike Noble wrote:I guess if people like the way this kind of thing sounds, that's fine, but honestly, most popular music isn't very deep. Artistically and musically. It's just too generic and repetitive for me. I guess your average person who doesn't know much about music only cares about catchy choruses, but as I know a good deal about music, it takes a lot more to impress me. I'm not going to act like I am better than everyone else for this reason, but they must admit that my musical knowledge is in fact superior.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, the reason why most popular music sucks is because most people don't know enough about music to know what constitutes true musical talent. So really, that's why they like pop music. As I said, I really couldn't care less, but that's seems to be the case.
Let's note that she was not 'signed up' by a record company...the company that produced this video got paid about $2000 by Rebecca Black's parents to make and produce a music video for her....but then they made it public, and it spread like complete and total wild fire, because it's simply crap.

That makes it an advertising jingle to show off the 'talents' of the production group. The "C" and "C" of the "music factory" of 80s fame where the initials of the last names of the two producers, nothing to do with the pawns singing for them, or the dance squad lip synchers in the video. So, it takes 'art' of a different sort to turn a random babble of lyrical cliches and overly predictable pop format loop into a "song" (understanding of verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-verse-chorus is just the tip of the cold sterile iceberg - running a pitch corrector takes a skill - not a talent but definitely a skill - lining up MIDI loops takes time, choosing which synthesized sounds to use for the musical backdrop is like picking whether to use cadmium blue or dioxyhaze purple - there is someone putting something together here).
When I saw this I thought either someone in a recording stupio or video roduction company lost a bet, or it was a kind of class project for some online "YOU CAN BREAK INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!" type university marketed to the talentless-yet-driven portion of our young millenial culture that have dreams about recreating other people's songs for the next Glee so they can call it art.
"Bands" play songs they wrote themselves with instruments they play.
"Artists" perform songs other people wrote but do so with good voices (sometimes claiming co-writing credits for the lyrics or an instrument for the publicity of it - sometimes even claiming "writes all her own material" under instruction from the production team who knows exactly why they can afford to allow such little white lies), te "artist" is then backed up by session musicians who use their instrument of choice as a tool of a skilled trade, not as an artistic medium. A friend of mine used to do that for a living and he played crap he would never ever listen to because it paid him and got him into places, not because he thought what he was doing was "good" by any stretch of the imagination.
"Producers" are the ones who put together "Artists" whole act from image to sound to who to hire as the backup "band". This seemed to me like an advertisement for an undiscovered producer, not really meant to be a work of musical creativity, just showing off a talent for putting together a video and a coherent pop format. Poor lil miss Black is a pawn in this game and nothing more.
btw it costs a hell of a lot more than 2000 or 10000 or even 100000 dollars to make a professional song or video. 2000 dollars might have been able to afford 1 hour of studio time in some places, or maybe make a payment on a high end voice transformer/pitch correction tool.

Well the OP is blocked at work. Since I have no idea who it is, I will just complain and pretend it is Duffy and that stupid Well Well Well song. She sounds like she is singing through her nose and is just talking.
BTW, just listened to No Time to Cry by Cradle of Filth. I feel much better!

Perhaps it would be better saying "I hate everything the existance of Justin Beiber represents on an aesthetic level of what constitutes 'music' and serves the purpose of shovelling crap to masses of people who just don't care hence dilluting the industry's attention away from the truly talented or interesting things we might find if our TVs and radios weren't so poluted with carbon copied formulas"
I hate Justin Beiber is just a much easier way to get to the same point accross. Cosidering Justin Beiber or Lady Gaga or Madonna or Milli (and his brother Vanilla too) and so on, are actually 2 different things: One is a "person" you do not know who is a tool and may well have quite a sense of humor about the great rock and roll swindle they are involved in, the other is a trademarked moneymaking NAME that actually stands for a number of people on the team that creates the pop phenomenon. Justin Beiber (that version) is not a person, he is the PR representative of a company called Justin Beiber that is actually comprised of many talented video directors, songwriting teams, audio engineers, MIDI programmers, market analysts, costume designers, and so on.
Hate Justin Beiber Inc., but nobody except 13 yr olds cares much enough about Justin Beiber, son of blaah blah and so on Beiber, from E. Podunk, NW New Wherever who went to (school name here) HS. He's just a pawn, not really a hatable target.

It's nice her dad spent that kinda money so his daughter can make a video. It's also cool that she isn't dressed like a skank, and the lyrics are from a real teen and not some wierd 40 year old dude. I don't get the "She's not even that hot." She's just a kid for one, and looks have nothing to do with music. Hater overload/

They are from a weird 40 year old. She didn't write the song, the 'producers' at the studio did and she picked it (IIRC they had 2 'songs' for her to choose).
Ok, I made the mistake of listening for 18 seconds on the advice of a new associate here. I died a little inside.

NO. I was informed it was an 8th grader so decided to listen. Frankly there are many better pipes at GC's Jr. high.

Yes, pop stars just happen to all be attractive. Riiiight...
Looks have everything to do with music, that's why it's total garbage now.
With enough make-up and costume magic even guys like Gaga can be pop Queens.
There are a fair few people who are both attractive and musically talented, off the top of my head Kate Voegelle is pretty high on that list, even if only one of her songs (99 Times) is my kind of sound.
Also, if Katy Perry has anything to do with her music other than singing it, she is pretty talented too. Even if her hotness gets deducted for being a total air head/girly girl/ditz, haven't decided which one yet.....

Second, if you think this is bad, try George Michaels latest effort - truly awful vocal 'enhancements'. It makes me wonder if the drugs have finally taken their toll on his voice... And to think only 10 years ago he was being touted as a new frontman for Queen because of his performance at the Freddie Tribute concert - I was their and I can say that he put in a great performance...

I wandered away from American music years ago. I've been finding excellent classical music and, well, MUSIC that can actually convey something without relying on words and a stupid re-verb beat in the background.
See the following example:
I know it's anime, but listen to it just once. Spending 3 minutes listening to this may just get you back the time you wasted on the other crap in this tread. Also to note, this isn't the real song, that's not to be released until the end of april... :( but it's the best thing I've found thus far.

J-pop is just as bad as regular pop, it just has a 'j" in front to of it and pictures of androgynous animated men and women drawn to look like overly sexualized girls to accompany it. It is no better or worse to like it it than it is to like any other pop music. It isn't inferior, it isn't superior, it is just pop music from another country and just as formulaic.
If you want a sense of superior music taste, well now, jazz fusion, that is where things are at.
