http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/battle-engines/storm-strider Towering above its enemies, the lightning-wreathed Storm Strider moves across the battlefield raining voltaic death upon all who stand against Cygnar. Its lightning cannon is one of the most potent weapons in the Cygnaran arsenal and represents the pinnacle of stormsmith achievement. More devastating still is the Storm Strider's ability to capture and store the energy of enemy attacks, adding this deadly kinetic force to its withering lightning blasts.

One of the better looking battle engines so far.
It fits.
I'm not sure if any of them are $85 good.

This is my favorite so far. The Throne of Everblight concept seems disappointing, Khador's wagon makes me feel sorry for the horses, and the Retribution cricket makes no visual sense. This one is pitch perfect Cygnar, by contrast.
Does anyone know anything about upcoming Protectorate or Circle "battle engines"? Those are the two factions I'm most excited to see get something really big.

The Circle one is a giant stone formation. Very cool.
The Protectorate one is a rolling coffin that they open up.

Mabye Im way behind the times, but I thought the draw behind this game was that it was a pretty good game/fun AND vastly cheaper than starting a warhammer or 40k army. Now I hear points values for games are jacked up, and the models in many cases are MORE expensive, so its just about the same. Someone correct me if im wrong, but wasent one of their pitches skirmish type battles with less investment in the models?

Thanks!
As long as that VofJ isn't pulled by a pair of already armor-laden ponies, we might have something there.
As to the Circle thing, that really surprises me, It looks very clockwork for Druids.
I think the Storm Strider may be the greatest success of this line. That disco ball comment is hard to overcome, however.

This probably belongs in a different thread, but yes. You can plan out
your army and keep costs down and start playing sooner. Price per
model is about the same, and newer releases get priced higher than
older releases as they try to keep prices fixed for as long as they
can.
It's not vastly cheaper if you try to collect an entire faction. It's a
different collection style from 40k (fewer duplicates and 0 customization).

I think it's still more flexible than 40k. You can have smaller battles that are of greater mechanical consequence than a 500pt 40k game but at the same time there are folks out there who have been collecting Iron Kingdoms armies for years. The customer base is ready for larger scale games.

Ugh.
I am interested in the fluff concept behind this Storm Strider. Is this some sort of 'jack or what?

So to avoid thread-jack, please keep comments on the Strider.
There are two discussion threads you can reference that
discuss Privateer Press and Games Workshop.

Battle Engines aren't 'Jacks.
All Battle Engines have a set of rules they follow:
*Single damage track.
*Pre-deployment (Deploys before anything else in the army)
*Can be targeted past forests and other things.
*Pathfinder
*Never gain in melee DEF bonus against ranged attacks
There might be more, but those are the ones off the top of my head.
Also, Battle Engines tend to be 8-10 points (equal to a heavy 'jack, but
with less damage and unable to use focus or fury).

is the stormwhatever plastic? if so...I am going to radio shack, and buying up a mixture of coloured LEDs. Then cutting some glass into small squares to glue on the base...or some EL panels to make it a true disco dance floor.

All credibility to judge went out the window with that avatar...
As a Cygnar player myself I am not blown away by the model, I'd rate it a "B" really.
But I do love the "Storm tech" theme and so I will have to get one for my Nemo builds.
I have some plans for it though as far as modding/converting it to my liking...
