I am interested in starting Necromunda but i have some questions.

Firstly, is it worth playing Necromunda in Glasgow, Scotland? I.e. are there people who already play it near me?

Secondly, where do i start? Is there any good but short reading material out there to get me involved?

Lastly, is the game actually any fun?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't actually played but there are several sources including the rulebook on GW's website http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=cat480009a&categoryId=1100011§ion=&aId=5300010

If the link doesn't work, it's under Specialist Games --> Nercomunda --> Necromunda Resources.

Thanks pal!

Does anyone know if there are people in Glasgow that play? I haven't seen any in my FLGS.

It's quite a rare game. If you don't know anyone that plays and can't convince anyone to start playing with you, then the chances of meeting another Necromunda player are very slim (as far as I know)

Chaos Space Marines, The Skull Guard: 4500pts
Fists of Dorn: 1500pts
Wood Elves, Awakened of Spring: 3425pts

Aww that's a shame. I'll probably just leave it then. Thanks.

Where's your Dunkirk spirit?
(and don't say you left it on the beach at Dunkirk!)

We started by proxying some GW figures.
If you have any IG they are pretty good for this.
If you can get a mate or two to at least try it then you will prolly have a blast and run a campaign

You can download the rules
Proxy the figures. Don't worry too much about WYSIWYG. As long as you have some way of remembering who has what (write it down on paper)
Start with a simple scenario to run through the game play.

It is worthwhile imho and we all had a great time playing.

Just knock up some basic terrain with cardboard boxes and try and get some cover and if possible some levels.

It won't cost anything and if it doesn't work out then at least you had a shot at it, pardon the pun

Hmm, yeh your probably right mate i'm just feeling a bit down today. I shouldn't give up so easily.
My main problem is that i don't really know anyone who would play. I might be able to get my cousin involved and maybe one of my mates.
Is three people enough for a tournament?

My cousin used to play and iv still got a lot of his old models in a box. But we are both hoping to start small Space Marine armies soon although we are both too skint right now. Maybe he will be up for Necromunda too.

tbh if you are both skint atm then the skirmish games with what you have gets you going for spending nowt.

You only need about ten models each
You can make homemade terrain which costs nowt.
We started with boxes as said and made some walkways.
Three people should be enough for a campaign.

It gets you gaming while you wait to build your armies.

Also I may still have some print outs from the GW website (so it is legit) if you are interested drop me a PM and I will get them in the post to you.
It won't be everything off the PDF but enough to get you through a game and if you have a laptop handy all to the good.
I since bagged the rukebooks on ebay so they are now gathering dust/soon to be recycled.

Finally there are some gobsmackingly amazing Necroblogs on Dakka well worth a looksee.

Necromunda is a campaign game not tourniment game.

IE the gangers evolve and gain new skills and stat lines.

Skirmish is good as the level of detail is higher than a mass war game.

But yeah unless you can convince others playing by yourself would be weak.

Check out:

Yakromunda: Gang management site that does most of the work for you.

Several sites where you can download the supplements (or PM me as I have nearly all of them) Although they are not neccessery for most play only if you want to add something.

No probs Lost Soul

I would probably suggest a game or two to get the hang of the gameplay.
It is similar to 40k, but there are a lot of differences, with knock downs rather than straight up removals of models.

Then go into campaign
A campaign can go on pretty much as long as there are gangers! But yes games are quicker than 40k

If you haven't already done so download the rules from the linky above.

Thanks that's really helpful too! I'll get stuck in and i'll post up a message to say how things are moving along! Tah!

I'd argue that games can be reasonably long with the pre and post game sequence but yeah shorter than the average 40K game.

Sorry
was refering to the actual gameplay rather than the pre post sequences

Never felt like it was too big a time spent on those things, but you are right Scott and time does need to be taken into account for the stats etc that need doing for a campaign

Which is it better suited to campaign or tournie? Yep. Campaign.

I didn't say you couldn't play it as a tournie game but considering that there are tourniments of Rock/paper/scissors saying that it has been played as such doesn't do much.

Mostly, on my phone.

Hey,
G3 (Glasgow Gamers Group) meets Tuesday nights at Woodside Halls, Glenfarg St, Maryhill. We have a bunch of folk who play Necromunda (and Infinity, Silent Death, 40k, Warmahordes...) It's a good laugh and very welcoming. First time's free and this week will be busy as because (1) it's the AGM and (2) Saturday is Wappenshaw, which this year is at the Concert Halls, and we're doing a 3D Space Hulk participation game. PM me if you want more info, buddy.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I think such is the strength of the game system, that the first time someone falls of a roof, or a grenade gets thrown in through a window, or a ganger loses an eye following a fight and vows to take revenge, you will be absolutely in love with the game. Some years ago as a GW staff member I used to run campaigns and intro games for younger members, and a lot of the time those who couldn't afford to play the other games properly, and I would say 90% of the reactions to it were extremely positive. Even for older gamers who hadn't tried it before, it was more like 'where have you been all my life?'

There is a reason it was removed from GW stores and playing of it banned on many game nights, that much fun for less than $40 is simply not permissible!

Good post Pacific

I had a ganger fall off a walkway into a tank of acid and that was the end of him

My first game I was onthe point of winning when lost my leader, the gang bottled it and ran.
The upshot was my leader was captured and ransomed, but decided he was useless and refused to buy him back!
Promoted my heavy instead and won a load of games.
So choose your leader with care!

It's a shame but i completely understand why its hidden away! It's amazing it has taken me so long to get into Necromunda considering my cousin gave me all his old models 9 years ago! Not to mention the fact that i'm into RP and used to play a disgusting amount of text based games and such! Oh, AND i got obsessed with kill team when it came out!
Yeh so it took an odd amount of time... Hahaha!!

I loved Necromunda back in the day, played it more than any other game. I think it was mainly down to it being the only game allowed conversions on the board in-store at the time (hardly anyone converted much at that point, and I think I was about the first to do it in the glasgow store going by the reactions when I pulled a gang onto the board). Big time 'House Orlock' fan, had every model available and when I got through them, started converting 'Catachan Jungle fighters'.

You should have a fair few Necromunda models from all gangs in your little box of tricks mate

Haha yeh, i'm making some more moves towards it right now. Need to get those links printed off first. Deffo got some models in my 'box of tricks' haha. Don't you mean Goliath gangs though?

P.S. Sorry for the late reply. R/L got more interesting recently, what with loads of folk coming back from uni. Dying down again though.

Erm, I had one boxed set of Goliath, but went mad for Orlocks. There is bits and bobs from all gangs though, like the Van Saar guys you used in your Chaos army and of course the sexy lil Escher juves

Now that I think about it, there wasnt much I didnt have from that game lol
