Hello,

I'm hoping to build a Grey Knights army to around 1750 points, if not more, and thought I'd log the progress on here.

I think the Grey Knights models are great, but I wanted a more bluey feel to them, whilst still maintaining the metallic look;

So after a coat of Mithril Silver over the black prime I added a wash of Asurmen blue. I'm happy with how it's turned out, nice and shiny!

So after a fair bit of painting I managed to get the Demon Hammer guy to a state I'm happy with. I'll try and get some better pictures up soon.

The guy on the right is supposed to be a Ghost Knight but he's a work in progress. Not sure what to really do with him as he doesn't look very ethereal! He's been dry brushed grey, had a blue and green wash, and then dry brushed again with grey followed by a pure white one. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Started work on a Land Raider too, though kind of screwed up the squares, made them too big and too few. Still it's a lesson learned and I'm in no mood to repaint over them! The doors will be from Forgeworld but haven't ordered them yet.

What I have ordered though is some Lost Empire bases from Dragonforge, so should hopefully have them in a few weeks.

Stealing an idea from another blog I saw, I was thinking of using this Scibor base for my Mordrak conversion with a different colour scheme;

Hopefully have some more updates soon.

Hey! Looking good! Your termies look very sharp. I noticed your comment about the blue wash. Is the first picture closer to the actual look of the models? The tones of the first and second pictures are quite different.

I think the squares on your LR look fine (I wouldn't have noticed anything wrong, at least).

As for your ghost termie, I would say ditch the grey out of your colorscheme. It makes him look like a statue (albeit a really nice statue). Go with a blue or green and work up to the pure white like you talked about. Maybe some OSL on the eyes?

Keep up the good work!

Heya, thanks. The third picture is probably the most accurate, I'll try and get a proper picture up tomorrow.

I like the idea of OSL on the eyes, will definitely give that a go, and agree that it looks quite a bit like a statue. I'll try a blue and see how it works out. Should hopefully have something up soon!

Slow process, but an update nonetheless!

Nearly finished a second terminator now, not sure about the Force Sword though, may try something different, but happy for now. Need to get some OSL done on the eyes too.

Also started work on my Razorback, still in the early days though.

Picked up a Dread Knight too which I've managed to build and prime. Looking forward to painting him.

Lastly I've made some counters for my Servo Skulls, I plan to take 3 in my first list.

I have images of them whirling around terrain, as they scout about, and wanted to try and show that. So using some models from a Blood Angels sprue and a terrain box I whipped these up. I'm really pleased with them and feel they should be fairly different.

Will have my first game on the weekend, proxying a fair few stuff though. The list I'm building and painting towards is:

1 x Grand Master Mordak, 4 x Ghost Knights
1 x Inquisitor, 3 x Servo Skulls

5 x Purifiers, 2 x Psycannon, 1 x Rhino

5 x Terminators, 2 x NFH, 1 x DH, 1 x Psycannon
5 x Strikes, 1 x Psycannon, 1 x Psy Razorback
5 x Strikes, 1 x Psycannon, 1 x Psy Razorback
5 x Strikes, 1 x Psycannon, 1 x Psy Razorback

1 x Dreadknight
1 x Dreadknight, 1 x Personal Teleporter
1 x Dreadnaught, 2 x TL AC, Psybolt Ammunition
1749 Points

Not sure how it will fare but looks great fun to play, Mordrak and the Dreadknight advance Turn 1 to threaten the back line whilst the Terminators deep strike towards the enemy with the use of servo skulls.

The other Dreadknight advances with the rest of the army soaking up fire until they reach 24" and unleash shooting fun. Will let you know how it does.

For Mordrak I was thinking of using Inquisitor Lord Rex, cutting out his head and replacing it with a GKT one. I really want to use the Dreadknight Demon Hammer as his weapon but found it far too big for a normal GKT. Not sure if it would work on Rex but only one way to find out!

The Ghost Knights have been put on hold for the time being as I completely screwed one model up. Ended up having so many layers of paint on him that I had to scrub him down with soapy bleached water to get him back to his base coat. Hopefully I can repaint him without hassle.

Cheers LDP and Markillius,

After a lot of reading and thinking about the Ghost Knights, I decided I would paint them normally. Afterall, they don't need to look like Casper; they still have armour, it's just that they're souls in limbo!
However, I still want to set them apart from the normal terminators. So my plan is to give them all capes and a hood. I'll then paint their force weapons green opposed to blue.

This is my first time properly using green stuff and I'm chuffed, added a basic pattern on the side just to experiment. Unfortunately it's still drying so he's in an angled pose. Should be able to get some better pics tomorrow.

I'm not sure what "chuffed" means, but your gs-fu is admirable. It does look a bit like he's standing in a wind tunnel with his cape flowing back like that, though. Maybe less angle and more contours? Unless of course he happens to be standing defiantly in the face of some warp spawn and the wind tunnel is needed for dramatic effect

Thanks everyone, the detail on the cape is just a hobby knife pressed down in a crossed pattern.

With chuffed I meant happy/satisfied. The wind tunnel is the exact effect I was going for (he says now!). I picture the Ghost Knights materializing out of fog as they walk forward to Mordraks side. Therefore I felt the capes would be flowing back as they stride forward. I also think it looks more dramatic. I tried to add more contours but found it very hard and didn't want to mess anything up, so played it safe and left it as it was.

As promised I got my first battle report up, though there is a fair amount of proxy going on. You can find it here

Yet again the progress has been slow, but I have a small update;

My bases arrived from Dragon Forge and I love them, so the Terminators now have something nice to stand on. They're nearly finished; just need to finish up some of the seals/books, shields, the side of the bases and add a few touch-ups here and there. Still not convinced with the power weapons, especially when zoomed in, however it will do for the time being.

Made another cape with Green Stuff so the Ghosts are progressing slowly, I was thinking of using these Shoulder Pads for them, as I think it would fit the Ghost theme well. Three of them will have Halberds, and again Scibor seem to have some nice ones, which will help set them apart.

I've ordered a Ven Dread and plan to work on that as soon as it arrives, apart from that everything else progresses slowly! Will try and get another update soon enough.

Thanks Shingouki, glad I could inspire you!

Thanks Disjointed Entity, I did the force blades as follows;

- Paint the whole blade with Skull White
- Add the middle blue segment, using Ultramarines Blue
- Add Regal Blue at opposite ends
- Drybrush with Skull White, but rather than dabbing down, I've caught the edges in line with the angle of the blue

I had tried to blend the 3 colours together but failed quite badly, so opted for this option, hope this helps.

Looking sweet as, but...drill the bolter muzzles? Maybe you could just paint black dots, that might be easier seeing as the models are almost finished anyway. IDK haha good luck.

Thanks for all the nice comments, will have a go at painting the nozzles and get a picture up soon.

In the mean time I've been working on the Ven Dread who will have 2 Twin Linked Autocannons. For his right arm I've chopped the lascannons off and using the Aegis Defence kit, added the autocannons that I cut from that set.

His other arm is proving a little harder though, I want to keep the fist as I think it looks awesome and sets him apart as a Ven Dread, however I then struggle with where to place the autocannon. In my head the current position looked awesome, but in reality it looks quite bulky. It's only blue tacked down at the moment, any thoughts let me know.

Thats a good idea, shame it cant be replicated on the other side, perhaps some greenstuffing or plasticard could suffice?

Yes that does look very bulky, don't think that really works.

I think the two auto cannons stuck together like that does look exactly how you need them to. Of course that is an illegal armament but i'm certain you know that.

The real problem being that you want to keep the fist but still want to maintain the visual balance of the model, this will of course be difficult and will no doubt incure some compramise.

Try it without the fist at all. i.e. the auto cannon straight from the sholder and see what you think. Then if you still want to have the fist view it as the add on piece, seen as it is really only there because it makes the model more destinct from the venerable dread.

Your right Ceorron, compromise is the way forward. Therefore the beloved fist has been chopped off and the Autocannons stuck on, in similar fashion to the picture you posted Lipsdapips, thanks both.

Let me know what you think now. Personally I'm happy and think it looks right, as you said Ceorron, this visual balance of the model was lost in the previous pose, but I think it's back now.

Think that looks pretty bad ass with the two twin autocannons, if you ask me.

In the best way possible I mean

I'd try one Autocannon either side of the fist, arm extended.

What about adding some of the autocannon ammo canisters on the arms somewhere? It looks pretty clean right now, so I'm not sure where they'd go, but I think it would add to the autocannon feel. Thoughts?
