Heya, so been on holiday for the last couple of weeks soaking up the sun, hence an update is well overdue!

Nothing complete yet but a few more WIP shots and some new models:

The first Ven Dread is slowly coming along. His base is nearly done but everything else is not even halfway:

This is my Assassin test model and I'm happy. Her boots still need painting and a few extra details but she's pretty much there.

My Mordrak model (Inquisitor Hector Rex) arrived and he looks great. However the head doesn't come out so I've had to painstakingly chip away at it until the GK one fits in, still needs some work I think. The Dread Knight hammer is unfortunately far too big for him, so I've managed to create a normal one, but ran out of glue, doh! His pose looks a little weird but his right leg isn't stuck on properly yet.

These will be my three objectives, the thing in the middle is from an inquisitor retinue from my Witch Hunter days, and the ones on the outside came with Mordrak (Hector). I think I'll paint the side of their bases yellow to make it obvious they're objectives.

Lastly I got hold of a box of strikes, so hope to have them done soon.

Hey, just caught up with this: nice blog mate! Like your gs work on the cloaks, and the LR's really crisp. As for the AC dilemma, I'm sure gitsplitta tackled this using aegis TLACs, maybe drop him a pm? I cheated and used IG ones. Love the assassin - is that to be death cult? - and the servo skulls are genius! Chuffed seems to be a very British colloquialism, I've had to explain it several times. Will watch your blog with interest and if you want to do some bits swapping (cos let's face it, GKs are all about the extras) just drop me a pm.

Lovely work - a quick question - I take it you significantly watered down the asurmen blue wash? When I tried it, my GK came out looking very blue indeed, not what I had desired. What ratio do you use and what technique - do you wash all over or just into the recesses?

Thanks, the Assassin is a Death Cult one, plan is to have 6 of them in total riding in the LR. Glad you liked the servo skulls, still debating how to paint them though, not sure if I should do a normal pipe look or go for some dark red colours, any thoughts?

I actually thought chuffed was pretty universal but just goes to show what you know! Will let you know about any bit swaps, at the moment I think I'm good, but if there's anything you need let me know, as I have a fair few now.

Thanks, the scriptures are the final touches I'm still getting around to, hopefully soon!

Heya, there's no watering down or anything, it's simply primed black, coated in Mithril Silver (sometimes 2 coats for smoothness) and then a coat of Asurmen Blue, over the whole model.

The only advice I can give is to never apply more than one coat, because then it goes really blue. I don't water it down but make sure that the paint is spread fairly thinly across the model and keep spreading it until I'm happy. Once it dries it appears more blue.

This was my first test model and I think I used 2 or 3 coats, as you can see it's a lot darker!

Looks fab! Do you liberally wash it, or just carefully paint in the recesses and lightly coat the entire model?

As usual slow progress, and nothing complete, however there's quite a few small updates to share:

To start with I got a lovely parcel from Scibor miniatures, which means my Mordrak base has arrived. His conversion is complete too, decided on a normal Hammer that I cut in half and glued back to his sword.

Mordrak himself is a work in progress and may be a bit too blue, ironic after I tried to give advice on how not to get him too blue! Haha, can't wait to get his base painted though.

The rest of the parcel included Halberds, a base for my inquisitor and shoulderpads:

So the plan is to use the Shoulderpads on the Ghost Knights as I thought the skeletons were nice and relevant. They'll also get to wield the Halberds, but they're a little larger/bulkier than I expected, so may mix and match with a normal one:

I've been experimenting with some new blending techniques, tested on my Strikes:

Still work to be done but happy so far.

To finish I've been adding red squares to my Ven Dread and my LR Redeemer:

I lightly coat the entire model, but make sure the recesses are getting some too for definition

Love the Idea for Scibor Shoulder Pads, i have some from when i was doing my honour guard for my Imperial Fists
For modrik you could high light it with more Mith silver, it still looks better than my mock ups Carnt wait to see those bases painted

Yeah they're awesome, only trouble is that they don't fit normal terminator arms, so having to do a lot of filing down, which is a real pain!

I'm hoping that once everything else on Mordrak is painted it will balance out, so time will tell. Will have the bases ready as soon as possible!

When i stuck the shoulder pads on termie arms i just stuck a ball of green stuff and pushed it around till it looked good
Did the trick more or less, its almost comical how big they look but then again their space marines

Haha yep, they do look on the large side, but I think it just helps to add to the character of the models.

I ended up filing the insides of the shoulder pads and hacking away at them with a knife before sticking some green stuff in, it was by no means a controlled approach!

However much I played with the Halberds they felt even bigger than the shoulder pads, so I decided to stick the blade part on the end of a normal one. Think it's worked out quite well.

Two more Ghost Knights to make though, as I only plan on taking four in my list. I'll have to create another two after that I reckon in case Mordrak spawns any during a game, but that can wait till the rest of the army is done.

Cheers Lipsdapips, have somewhat of an update to show you;

Mordrak's base is pretty much done, let me know what you think. He is still a work in progress but has had a bit more work done on him. The rest of my bases arrived so put them on my assassin and strikes.

Liking the sharp blue highlighting a lot. Only thing is that it feels like osl which my brain says should be green from Mordrak's base. Great nevertheless!

That's a very good point! Hadn't even thought of it that way. For the time being I think I'll leave it as blue, as everyone else has a blue highlighted bolter, but think I'll have a play around on a test model.

Did some work on his robe too, still WIP. I don't really know why it is the colour it is, or whether it even goes, as there's a lot of colours going on now! I read this Battle Report and was in awe at the Eldar, so much so that I wanted to emulate it in some way.

It looks a lot better from tabletop distance, rather than close up photography.

Nice pattern on the cloak there, but the mold lines on the hammer really take a lot away from the model. Clean those up, especially before you get paint on there!

Good luck!

Well, I live to give incidentally, I think the SBs would look better with barrels drilled. Cloak looks absolutely stunning btw!

Cheers Rawson, will definitely clean those mold lines up. Hadn't really seen them but now I know they're there I can't miss them!

His cloak is Inquisitor Hex's from Forgeworld, the rest of the ghost knights will have green stuff cloaks.

Thanks, will get round to drilling barrels eventually, but unfortunately it's last on the list at the moment, not sure if I even have the tools at the moment!

Hey if your still not happy with the force weapons and you wanted them similar to the ones in the grey knights codex I'd be happy to show you how to do that. Also I'm really liking that mordrak conversion
