Subject: WarMill's BattleSnap range of terrain - Pre orders ready to ship
|

waHey all
We've been very busy the last few days getting everything ready to launch the flagship product for our new BattleSnap (cos it's for the Battlefield and it Snaps together innit? ) range of modular terrain. Anyone who's been on our website in the past few days may have noticed the new category has appeared in the sidebar, and interestingly thanks to google analytics we know it's been the most popular page since it went up even though there's nothing on there! Anyone who's followed our plog will have seen WIP pics of the parts and even helped us develop them, but now after some long days of cutting and painting (Ed's barely seen his home this week!) we can show the finsihed article off.
We'll be putting the kits up on the website over the next couple of days ready for pre-ordering while we optimise files and sort packaging and instructions (most of it's very straightforward and can be assembled and disassembled in a couple of minutes but the gate is a bit of a headscratcher the first time ) ready for the official launch on 01/08/2011, Monday the first of August. As a promotion anyone who orders any kits between now and launch day will get a free pack of jewel bases from the range of their choice included (the 40mm ones in particular make great objective markers if you don't want to use them as bases), so check our webstore over the next few days to get a detailed look at things and check out prices. There will be a wide range of package options to allow people to customise their outposts just the way they want them!
Thanks to everyone who's been following the development, it's pretty crazy to think we've managed to go from an idea for a basic barricade to a complete fort kit in less than a month in our spare time. This is just the start of the BattleSnap range and Outpost Accessories, there will be more on the way!
Harry and Ed - The Warmill boys
PS Check our Warmill's sexy laser cut and CNCed custom bits of sexy awesomeness for more pics!

I see what you're doing here.
Great design and by producing something thats basically generic it will be visually compatible with quite a few systems. I think this has even been posted on the Infinity boards so hope you're ready for an influx of orders.
Well done sir

I like the clean modular shapes. Looks nice an lightweight (what were the materials used?). Suggestion: please consider destroyed versions of the section.
Issue: If this is pointed toward 40k, then the design of the outer wall will make the placement of models in hth combat miserable.

I think the design of the wall is to stop people from getting to you so they wont be able to get you into close combat.

As a BA player, I find that close combat happens wherever the enemy is camping at.

Unfortunately there's nothing in the rules that would allow for that to happen. Sure, you could create some situational rules, but terrain that's made for regular games will be much more popular with the average 40k gamer.

I think he's saying that in 40k walls are usually difficult terrain so these would need house rules.
But it's not true, you can always say these walls are impassible terrain. Jump troops could still get in but no one else could climb them.
Give the walls an armor value like bunkers and your opponent can also blast them apart.
The problem is most 40k games assume you're both showing up in neutral ground, there really isn't anything (except Planet Strike) that assumes one side has a prepared position, so yeah, I guess most players would want or need some house rules. Unless you get 2 sets and give both sides a trench line...

Ok, only impassible terrain stops a figure from moving into the area, otherwise terrain just limits movement. Having a bunch of terrain that creates a ton of dead zones on the board isn't optimal- it's a huge advantage to the defender, and there are no rules for defenses giving that sort of bonus in the rule book; even Planetstrike doesn't do that.
So, you would have to get your opponent's permission to allow for it since it isn't standard. That's fine if you're having some friendly games, but outside of that you'll find it harder to make it happen.

Yeah we thought of that: the outward pointing v plate is removable so you could remove it for close comvat or leave it off altogether if you so desire. The struts that support it are shaped to stop tanks rolling over your wall even without it; the v plate is strictly optional
I do talk about it in the plog but it's buried in there somewhere.

Sure there is. Its called impassable terrain. I know the concept of actually using impassable terrain is not well understood by gamers, but its there for a reason, and this is one of them.
Ok, only impassible terrain stops a figure from moving into the area, otherwise terrain just limits movement. Quit your complaining, boy. You dont have to model the terrain with that anti-assault wall up if you dont like it. In any case, terrain like this is perfectly acceptable in normal games of 40k. Just set it up in the neutral area between deployment zones, etc./balance it so that both sides have equal opportunity to occupy it and you're good to go.

To really replay those Starship Troopers battles, you'd need some house rules to allow nids to climb on each other's corspes, eventually reaching the tops of the walls
I like these a lot - if the price is right, they should sell well to gamers on many game systems.
