Watching Jurassic Park III at the moment (ever noticed that nobody dies after the first hour?) and it reminded me that Spielberg has recently announced he is working on a fourth entry to the series.

Now quite a few franchises have made it to the third chapter and still been able to knock out a great film (Return of the King, Back to the Future Part III, Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Toy Story 3, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Good The Bad and The Ugly etc). But how many have produced a quality fourth effort?

I can only think of one offhand...

Even if you cheat and divide the rest of the Bond films into mini-franchises based on the actor playing him, then both Moonraker (Moore's 4th) and Die Another Day (Brosnan's 4th) are crap.

I enjoyed the fourth Indiana Jones film more than most people seemed to.

What's sad is that it is a great film for about 20 minutes and even manages to stagger on as a good film after the fridge incident, but after a fairly boring mid section, the monkeys killed it for me (I do own it on DVD though )

I'll give you that one

...Not unless you really like the other Phantasm films, and even then...not so much.
Horror film sequels are the bane of the genre, almost always devolving into gak...I cite the " Halloween" franchise as an example, John Carpenter's original film was (IMO) one of the best pieces of movie Horror ever made...everything that followed was absolute garbage ( though Halloween II had some good moments)...
The first four Friday the 13th films could perhaps be considered " good" ( for what they were), they were all certainly better than than the other seven that followed.

I actually liked it much more than Terminator III " Rise of the Machines", but honestly ..I didn't care for either one very much.

Terminator 3 I thought was terrible.

Rocky 4 wasn't bad.

Thought of another one trying to get to sleep last night.

Goblet of Fire is pretty good and certainly better the first two Harry Potter films.

Ahh, you beat me to it. I was gonna mention Harry Potter, which has 8 movies (and all but about 2 of them are really, really good).

The fourth Tremors movie isn't bad. It was an interesting twist in style - in the first 3 movies, all the non-whites die throughout the movies, and in the fourth one, all the white people die by the end (other than Burt's ancestor).

The fourth Rambo movie was good. Not as good as the first, but I think its on par with the second and third movies.

I really liked it until the hybrid baby alien thingy, which was just silly.

As to good forth films in a series...

Hellraiser 4: Bloodlines was actually fairly interesting and delved into the history of the cenobites and the lament configuration.

Yea I figured as much, the other Phantasms are worth watching, if nothing else, but to say youve seen them. I agree with Halloween, although personally, Id rate the first Nightmare on Elmstreet way up the list as well. Man that was a good flick.

Nope I too rather liked that film. But uh.... I also love WaterWorld, so take my opinion for what its worth

@ KC...yeah, the first Nightmare on Elm Street was good, but like all other Horror franchises...it's sequels were mostly swill.

Same with " The Never ending story"...the producers really took that title seriously...

I don't know if anyone remembers the Japanese horror movie Ring (Ringu)?

It got remade by Hollywood.

After it was popular, they made two more episodes, a sequel called Ring 2 and a prequel called Ring 0.

Pre-production has recently started on a fourth episode, with working title "Ringu Peace".

The funny thing is, I was trying to decide, do I make a joke about Land Before Time? OR go with the never ending story that really is never ending.

A fourth ring film?

Surely that's skirting the rim of plausibility.

Man, some bad taste in here!

Terminator Salvation was awful, Indiana Jones 4 was fething awful as well!

I just watched the Lethal Weapon Quadrilogy on HD a month back, and considering how much worse they were now im 31 and not 11 years old, I think its safe to say that LW4 is a good option.

Its better than the 2nd and 3rd anyway, and Jet Li is always good!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.
