We all get ideas sometimes, 'I'm gonna start a Blog!', 'I am gonna write a novel', 'Our band are so good bro!', 'my movie idea is awesome, writing a script cant be that hard?', 'My videogame idea is awesome, if i email it to Bungie they'll develop it for sure!'....

We start out at the planning phase, Blue sky thinking, brainstorming if you will. WOW SO MANY IDEAS! So MUCH drive! I AM SO PUMPED RIGHT NOW! The first page writes itself, the second not so much, time for a cigarette/coffee/caffein-free wheatgrass energy smoothy. It gets forgotten about, you decide it is 'just for fun'. No studio would open the crudely sellotaped envelope, No bank would give a loan to you, i mean look at you! I'll work on it to relax, maybe on my days off.........

You find the file on your computer a year or so later. You stare at it, vaguely embarassed, glad nobody had found it. #click# You cringe as you read it,

what was i thinking?!

Here is a selection of mine:

Spoiler:
Northlander
Type: Movie script
Description: Reboot of the beloved Highlander franchise, skandinavian Protagnanist (born~900ad), Persian antagonist (born~2000bc). Basically a duel that goes through lots of time periods. Set pieces in the Dark ages, Agincourt, a venician masquerade ball, hitler's bunker (They were both Nazi's) and the near future. They keep killing each others friends/loved ones until they are as bad as each other blahblah.
completion: ~3% 'treatment' and like 3 pages of script haha :facepalm
Reason for Abortion: Questioning ability to write scripts.

Intender
Type:Tv series x2
Description: Television show about two aliens one bad and another good from a distant planet 'More ancient than our own'. In a shameless lift from 40k they can foresee possible outcomes of their actions and those around them etc, this makes for some interesting set pieces blahblah. Thought of various plot developments/ a cthulu like mythos.
completion: ~0.05% 'treatment' 5-8 pages of script and plot lines for 3 episodes.
Reason for abortion: A fringe episode came dangerously close to my idea so i gave up.

There we have it, long post but heh.

Spoiler:
too long, didn't read

Probably work

I've had several. At one point, I was going to try to get in shape. Another time, I was building a tesla coil. I've had several programming projects that just didn't pan out due having an much more inflated timeline that i anticipated. I also had an idea for a car component that I never got around to building to implement, but I won't talk too much about that as I believe it's patentable.

I kept everything to try to fool myself into thinking "I could revisit it sometime."

My novel is idea is still going (it's actually managed to make it to the writing stage, albeit only the first chapter, but it's progress) but i've had plenty of other abandoned projects that i'd prefer to be left undisclosed

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I started doing a couple of comics with a friend at university, (and shortly after we finished) but various events lead to a fall out which left them unfinished... one with the first page drawn and a few pages sketched out, the other with the first couple of pages scripted and the rest sketched out in notes.

I've made a few attempts at short stories (~5,000 words) in the past. I was supposed to have one published in a fanzine but the fanzine kind of never went ahead.

Tried writing a couple of longer short stories (~10-20,000 words) but tend to get half way through and stop.

Even started writing a full length story but hardly got into it (about 10 pages if I recall) and then kind of let it slide off my "to do" list

Longest story i've done is ~18k words, and it was a fan-fic about my custom Space Marine chapter. It was abandoned for various reasons including, but not limited to:

Fluff-rape
Forced storyline
Writing quality (or lack thereof)

Started 16th of July 2009, which is a lot later than I remember, and i'm honestly shocked at how bad my writing was just 2 years ago.

-Relearning how to program to an actually useful rather than "I can mess around or do very specific things" level.
-Getting good at electronics to the point where I can make my own stuff.
-Writing my own comic book.
-Relearning calculus and going beyond what I needed to "get by" in uni to a deeper understanding.
-Writing my own fantasy novel. (This was embarassing to revisit. The first time I tried I was twelve, and it was a terrible mish mash of tolkien and zombie fiction. The next shot was when I was 19, and it was just a pile of indulgent crap. I have an idea floating around now, but I can almost tell it's not going to be any good.)
-Oh, I drew a webcomic for a while, which was also a pile of self indulgent crap.

I've had quite a few.

One of my first was a Christian-themed fantasy inspired in part by the film Constatine. I abandoned the project but have recently resurrected several of the characters and ideas for my current project.

The first full length book I ever finished writing was a werewolf story, and while generally crappy, a lot of the plot line ideas I had for it I have (like my first project) incorporated into my current project.

EDIT: One of my favorite ideas I ever had was titled 003, about an Terminator style scenario where two AI's become sentient. One chooses to destroy mankind while the other chooses to protect it and ultimately denoted its own nuclear core to destroy the other in an act of self-sacrifice. I loved the idea, but I have found over time that while I love Science Fiction, I can't write it for crap.

I've been working on my current idea for over a year and have gone through two drafts already and am busy in the process reorganizing characters and storyline. I've always had big project ideas, and write now it would take between 7-9 novels to completely tell the whole story of just the first storyline arc.

I have no shame admitting that I am a huge fan of the Women of the Otherworld series of contemporary fantasy novels. I love Armstrong's writing style and those books along with Starship Troopers, Hellblazer, and Christian folklore/mythology have had strong effects on what I write about.

Now this brought back some fond memories. I decided I wanted to write a book about REALLY bizarre murders that took place in a fictional city kindda like New York. But then a few chapters in I realize I knew nothing about human anatomy and all that jargin so shelfed it. I found that a few years later on my computer and just laughed. Oh well.

The only thing that immediately jumps to mind is actively being in a band, had to lay off on "going to practice" every night when kids started to pop up around the house and I had to " settle down" a bit.
Still play quite a bit, still take time to work on the books ( yes books) I want to write ...so..nothing " aborted"...just put on the back burners.

Hmm, I guess I've had a big one.

I have an idea for a fantasy world that I wanted to write stories in. Aside from one completed short story, and another about 2/3 of the way through, I never really developed it.

The complete story is pretty amateurish, I have no creative writing training, and it shows. I'd like to get back to it in some form, but that doesn't seem likely.

Oh, man do I ever have some of these lmost of which are around the house somewhere...

1) I've got several hundred linear feet of 1920's trim in need of stripping and refinishing. I was going to use it to replace all the trim that was lost by whoever originally rehabed my house. I stripped a door and one overhead and then...

2) I've got a 1960's Tiesco Del Ray Guitar that I bought off a junk dealer. Just needs a refin and some cleanup...

3) Was/am building a Fenderbird bass (Gibson Thunderbird style body and Fender PRecision style neck) in honor of my favorite band Travis. Got the body refinished and all the parts collected. got every Travis member to sign it and then...

4) Was/am building a Telecaster style bass. Got all the parts together and scored an awesome telebass neck and then...

5) Was going to build a LEGO model of a the new community health center in my neightborhood. Got the CEO to give me a powerpoint with all the dimensions and then...

Oh boy. I had crazy ambitions and a monstrous imagination when I was younger.

- When I was still in the single digit age range I tried to make my own game thing similar to Pokemon called MagiMon a.k.a. Magical Monsters. It was going to be a card game, a video game and a tv show. I would draw all the cards and make up attacks and names and everything myself. I would cut out cardboard to make the cards stiff and I actually got quite a few. Then my older brother started making fun of me so I ripped them all up....ABORTED.

- Then when I was about 15 I decided I would try to start a rock band similar to Finger Eleven and System of a Down. I picked up and learned how to play the keyboard, guitar as well as bass guitar (wanted to keep my options open) and tried my hand at writing songs. It was going very well I thought with several books and binders full of scores and lyrics. Even had a band name picked out - Death Denied (not too worried about the name being stolen as I don't really see this dream coming true) - but sadly, no matter how hard I tried for years, no one seemed interested. I haven't picked up an instrument in over 4 years now. ABORTED.

- When I was about 20 I decided I'd try writing a book. Something between the lines of Dragonlance and Warhammer. Fantasy is what I love. An escape from the real world crap. It's been nearly 3 years since then and I only have about 6 or so pages. I have a notebook full of point form ideas to keep the story going - it's about a race of purely bred assassins that are alerted by crows (they can speak with crows) about bad people (thieves, murderers, etc) and the assassins go out and kill them. Only one assassin is sent to dispatch of someone, once they're done with that person, they get a new task - but I just have never 'found' the time to sit and work on it. ABORTED.

- My most recent attempt at something is strating my own business. It used to be a houseplant tending business where I'll go to people houses and care for their plants. I figured there probably wouldn't be all too much demand for something like that as most people have houseplants because they enjoy taking care of them. Then I thought it could be a fish tank cleaning business. Lots of people like fish, but I'm sure not many like cleaning the tanks...especially if it's a particularily large tank. This hasn't been aborted yet per-say.....mainly 'cause it hasn't even gotten started yet...but I have a funny feeling it'll never get off the ground.

Aborted:
Starting a band has been shot down repeatedly for me, due exclusively for others being unable to follow through. It has gone through three attempts, all of which everyone but me quit for one reason or another.

On Hold/possibly aborted
Novel idea: Got through the novellette, turned out to 17k or so words and took me two years. The novel based on it is stuck at around 6k as I expand the first chapter into three more detailed chapters. I tend to work on it in bursts so it's not truly 'aborted' its just on hold until I get the drive back. Currently, painting takes most of my free time so its not likely to get anywhere.

Aborted and restarted repeatedly
Getting in shape: Start. Stop. Start. Stop. I think the time for one full revolution between the two is about two weeks time so I am slowly losing weight and getting healthier.

Happy note:
Start my own business: Well I just got another commission so its still up in the air! Yahoo!

Was watching Inception the other day and when Leonardo dicaprio is going on about how an Idea is super powerful and how it will keep niggling away at you till you do something about it. This thread proves that theory pretty wrong.

An idea in itself is not very powerful at all, it takes but the slightest whiff of reality or discouragement to destroy or at least cripple them.
