Hey guys!, just thought id show you my very first conversion.
it is far from finished, as it has not been painted yet, and i have still to add wings to this beasty!...









let me know what you guys think...

It's really hard for me tell where the stock ends and conversion starts so that's always good.

But to me it looks more like he is swimming than flying. The arm positions make it look that way.

haha i deffo know what you mean! maybe once i do get the wings that will change?, either that or the wings will draw the attention off the swimming arms haha! =P

I think one of the things that really needs to be don to give the effect of flight is to fix the feet. Right now they are positioned like he is on flat ground, that is invisible and several feet in the air.

I would gut those feet off, reposition them so the look more like they are hanging and then fill the gaps. Then I would get rid of the 2 clear rods, and get yourself some 1/4 inch clear acrylic rod and use a single piece of that.

couldnt work out how i would do it tbh ... to make it look like they were dangling ...
ill try cutting and filing, and ill use green stuff to fill in the gaps!
i need green stuff anyways for the wings! so thats fine! =]
as for the stand, ill leave it at that for now, im not very good with creating my own stuff quite yet so yeah , dont wanna ruin anything on him

The pose is nice, but little ankward. Still I like it, nice for an first conversion!

The tail is actually going to be another serious issue. It will be more convincing if you can straighten the tail out, or let it hang low.

I'm thinking you'll have to bring the legs closer together too to make it a convincing floating effect. Try to look at pictures of birds/avians that are landing/ just about to take off as a reference. Jumping animals might be a reference too, depending on if youre going for take-off/landing....

pictures of flying dragons might work as a reference too. altthough might be harder to get

i think ie worked out te feet problems,

instead of him being in the air, i have decided to stand him on some rocks ...

i made these from the space board i had left over after building my gaming board!

i painted them using Dhenab stone then washed them with devlan mud and the outcome was pretty good i thought! =] =]



what do you think?

i like it ...

lol, until those wings get there its going to ba a "how the--" model. I LOVE the pose now though.

Im finding myself quite liking this conversion and having him sitting up on the rocky pillers is a really beaut touch especially when the wings get put on. But you may encounter the problem of people crying foul because of a severe hight advantage. Although considering he has no ranged weaponry this may not be such a problem.

Me personally, I wouldnt have a single problem playing against this. Others might. Also just out of interest whats your colour scheme?

Hey man i completely agree. My thinking is if my Dreadnought armed w/assault cannon is based so he can see over some trees and fire at your Heavy weapons teams w/lascannons then your Heavy weapons teams w/lascannons can equaly see my Dreadnought and blast him off his perch. I mean i modelled him like that in the first place. If i didnt want him attracting attention in the first place i wouldnt have made him stand out as much. Just dont be getting butthurt because i got the drop on you.

I like what you have done here, to me it looks like its choosing which thunderbolt it's going to tear out the sky first lol

very good Conversion imo i also have the privelage of getting first hands view / opinion on this guy since i am at Buddlington house alot and he is working hard on it always good when you see the work that ahs went into it

AMEN!!! I've encountered a certain individual like this who gripes if a figure is modelled to where it can hide behind a rhino if a GW "official" figure can't due to dynamic posing.

OT: I absolutely love that critter sitting on the spires! I don't think it NEEDS the wings for the pose, I mean c'mon, anyone who's seen Aliens knows that bugs can scuttle vertically.

I love the pose. Very menacing... either that or he is really upset because he climbed way up on those rocks and still cant get a signal on his cell phone.

If people gripe about foul play on the scenic base, just say you're model draws LOS from the top of the rock, and the actual 'nid on top is "invisible" to their guys, Because the top of the rock looks about the same height as the beast that's standing on it.

I like the aggressive- come get me pose. Him standing on that scenery definitely gives him an alpha male feel- like he's dominating the other smaller beasts.

My concern, having modelled wings on a carnifex base, is where you intended to attach said flying implements? I actually think he looks pretty mean as he is now- is your intention to play him as winged tyrant?

It's more of an aggressive "come at me bro" pose.

Atm i havn't decided whether to play with him or not!
i may just keep him as a display piece!,

i wasnt going to have him as a winged Tyrant, i was just gonna keep him as a winged Carnifex....

as i am also modelling a winged Tyrant also (just havnt put up pictures yet as he is still stock atm )

I was actually going to use the Balrog Wings from the lord of the rings model as they are very 'nid' like ... plus they are huge so it will look fantastic (hopefully)
i will also be using some green stuff to mould into the edges and to make them look even more 'niddy' =] =]

Cool, if you do go for the wings in the end, then removing the top two carapace "chimneys" leaves you with 2 spots that are ideal to attach the wings to (just an idea). That and the plastic is quite thick at that point so pinning will work well. And yes, Balrog wings do brilliantly, and the scale fits the model too.

its the tail of a trygon/mawlok and the body and head of a carnifex...

He needs his tail to wrap around the rock more, make it look like he's actually gripping it, but I like where this is going.

yeah, im thinking heat gun? would this work and if not what would be the best thing to use!
