Hi,
Sorry to start another Cron thread, but they are all locked and I felt this might give a bit of a morale boost to Cron Fans. I can't vouch for the source but it all seems plausible to me:

Okay, so I sent an email to the What's New Today staff regarding getting some information on the Necron release. Here's what I got back - nothing spectacular, but it does sound like the release isn't extremely far off.

As you’ve probably guessed by now, I can’t really tell you a huge amount about Necrons because there isn’t a huge amount to say. When an army hasn’t been updated for a while, rumours will often start to circulate that the army is being remade. Sometimes this is correct, sometimes it isn’t. What I will say is that Codex Necrons has been removed from the website for some time now, which is a good indicator that something is being done with them.

My advice: If you buy any of the Necron plastic kits you’ll be fine – they will not be changing. Hopefully that will be enough to put your mind at rest for now. Otherwise, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer. But, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.

Dan

I hope "just a little bit longer" is at least before the end of the year!

Has to November...

Although it might be nice to be completely blind sided by GW for a change just to see what the feeling is like.

I'd prefer a nice predictable last Saturday Oct reveal and first Saturday Nov release. Call me a bluff old traditionalist if you must...

I heard that the entire Necron release got delayed because someone once made something that had robots in it, so there's a legal problem over whether they can actually release the Necrons at all.

Yes it would be in GW's best interest to just delay everything until their legal dept can be sure that they can actually copyright robots. I think they'll be OK as long as they don't start calling them droids.

I almost started a Necron thread yesterday myself, though without any details other than a release month I decided against it. November is looking pretty good at this point if you like killer robots.

That's definitely some good news for Necron players. I just hope the release schedule gets back on track quickly.

Dreadfleet is cool if a bit overpriced and I see a lot of copies sold in my area, but as expected the stores didn't sell out even with a much lower stock than Space Hulk and the game is still available on the GW website simultaneously as well. I wonder if GW would have made more money this month with a "normal" Warhammer games release.

It would be ironic if Necrons had legal issues given that they are almost direct copies of the T800 from terminator, in appearance if nothing else.

I still don't put any stock in the idea that the release schedule has been taken off track.

I'm early awaiting 'cons. Just bought the Apoc Necron Phalanx boxed set new for less than a Storm Raven, but I have a lot of metals - hope they don't get changed too much (have lots of Wraiths, Immortals and Flayed Ones).

If they change in ways i don't like i might give your metals a home, assuming that you like the new ones

unless the new immortals wow me (and rumors say thay are getting bling and rims, rather than the simple , clean look they have now) i'll be buying up oldschool ones to finish out my list

Assuming that the codes isn't a total lemon (and it may well be), forcing me to sell my army instead

I assumed they wouldn't be changing the plastics. Glad to have that somewhat-confirmed...I don't want any temptation to replace my 15 Destroyers.

Now here's hoping Destroyers will still be worth having.

Wasn't there a rumor that Necrons were getting delayed because Dark Eldar were so successful?

This fits with what people I know in Nottingham have been saying (they drink in Bugman's etc) and have been saying that there is a Necron release at the end of October/start of November.

I took it with a lot of salt, but it would fit for a large release in November again at least.

I've already seen it happening. Went to Empire Games in Phoenix looking for Necrons and the manager told me that a guy had come in and bought up all the stock of Immortals. He wasn't so much worried about what the new plastic Immortals looked like as he said that he just preferred metal to plastic. My thought on Immortals is that if the new plastics look substantially different from the existing metals is that I'm hoping we can use them for the rumored Crypteks.

Don't forget that the cybermen actually steal bits of humans... (ala flayed ones)!

BUT Necrons can't be T-800s...their weapons have green glowing rods!!! Mega difference!!!

I heard they're reconning Necrons as one of the lost first founding chapters - The Robot Space Marines.

They build pyramids because that is indicative of "ancient" races in fantasy mythos. Even real-world myths talk about ancient aliens creating ziggurats and pyramids.

Also, the tie-in between Egyptian mummies/zombies/skeletons and pyramids is complete with Necrons.

Kid_Kyoto wrote:I heard they're reconning Necrons as one of the lost first founding chapters - The Robot Space Marines.

I really hope that the rumors regarding Necron Warriors having 4+ saves is true.
Robot Marines seceding from the Marine statline paradigm is a welcome change.
