Kicking off another army project with a Mephiston resculpt. Still a fair bit of work to do, but this should give a general idea of where I'm going with this:

Looks good so far, how many points are you painting up? what other sorts of things you going to do? If the rest of the army looks like this its going to to look good

This looks awesome in terms of green stuff ability, but he does look a little like he's trying really hard to balance on that log, kinda dirty dancing style. Possibly his legs are a little too far apart, I'm not sure.

By the time the shoulder pads and rest of the torso cables are done, the legs won't look quite so wide. I think. There's also a fairly large overcoat / cloak to add.

The rest of the army is generally stock builds with a few nice reposes. They'll all be based in a jungle theme similar to the Space Hulk termies I did a while back.

The sculpting's looking great so far, but his head seems a little far forward in the top left picture. Especially in relation to his abs. I'm not really sure though, as it looks fine in all the other pics. That said, I'm really looking forward to the rest of this thread, considering your previous work.

Much better that the original, its a good model, but your conversion does the background so much justice please keep up the good work for those of us who cant sculpt

That is quite the fantastic sculpt there, Winterdyne! How many hours do you have in it so far?

A little CC: imho, the billowing cloak and robes around his legs need some more folds of cloth. They are a bit flat atm.

Good luck!

It's about 3 full working days on the sculpt, not including cure time. I expect to spend around 5 working days on the paint for this guy.

The cloak and robe are deliberately flat to make some freehand work easier later on.

Looks awesome, looking forward to seeing the finished paint job. I never got why GW didn't re-sculpt such an iconic character, but it's good as there's quite a few conversions and scratch-builds out there. Subscribed

Mephiston is looking dead sexy! Does the fluff justice!

Can't wait for the paint job that will no doubt be awesome as well!

Just confirming my understanding. There should be THREE 5 man assault squads, not simply two. Just saying. Let me know if I got it wrong.

Cheers!

Uhm, yeah, there are 3. :-) All assembled, I'm still putting sand on the bases. Should have them all basecoated / airbrushed next week sometime.

Some paint hit Mephiston over the last couple of days. May change the robe to a deep red instead of the grey/brown.

As always, the execution of the paint job is top notch. However, after looking at the painted version, I have some concerns about his face. More specifically:

- His forehead looks too wide and high (as if he has receding hairline)
- His nose looks too wide from the front (not sure if this assessment is correct due to the pic)

Look forward to the next update!

i think his hairline is a bit odd but i dont think that or the nose bothers me that much, i love the sculpt and the skin is very nicley painted

Progress. Fairly pleased with how this is going, the face is looking smoother, the freehand's coming on nice and just needs the highlights on the tears / rips tweaking. Sword needs a little work, and I need to start thinking about the OSL for the plasma pistol. Basework will be starting to be blocked in over the next update or so.

Getting there. Another day of tidying and tweaking I think.

And here's a test model for the Death Company, using some of the techniques I picked up doing the Black Templars I just finished. Basing to be completed with the rest of the squad, it'll match Mephiston's.

Today I was working on Lemartes. He's nearly done; just the basing and varnishing. I may make some attempts at some freehand text on the pistol and chest scrolls, but they're pretty small areas...

The death company are now more or less done, just the foliage to add to the bases and varnishing to go. I'll probably do that in a batch with another squad...

They look excellent.

I love the dynamic poses and the creative basing, which makes them look like they are flying across the battle field.
