Neat! Shame the Eavy Metal Medium isn't available separately.
Masterclass book looks great, I'll definitely be picking one up. Dice are cool, too.
Case doesn't look to shabby either.
Good stuff.

The paint station with all the bits included might tempt me. Book is probably pretty useful, but is it any more useful than the painting guides GW already have on their website, and the 1000s on here and other 40k websites?

As I said in the other thread started by scipio, that Eavy Metal brush set is priced reasonably well for Australian retail, depending entirely on the quality of those brushes.
A pair of Winsor Newtons will easily hit $70au, which leaves $13au for the Eavy metal medium, tin case and booklet.
Depending on the brush quality, I'd say it's one of their least overpriced offerings. This is speaking retail prices. Obviously ordering online skews that. I bought some Winsor Newtons retail the other month and they were in the $25au-$120au range depending on size.

Can't really imagine who would want one of those cases with a big GW symbol on the side, when cheaper, more capacity and less "in your face" cases are available.
My only other comment....."Eavy Metal"? really.....shouldn't it be "Eavy alternative, cheaper, more expensive, material that isn't metal"

Calling it 'brown' was a poor marketing choice. I guess it's better than if they took a cue from their paint range and called it something like "Moulder Smear." Still, I like the color quite a lot. It's a nice break from "GrimDark Gray" -- a color that all too conveniently matches far too many of my models. ):

the lessons themselves are satisfactory but if i bought the book it would only be for convenience.

The 'eavy Metal tag does seem a little peculiar now. 'Insufficiently Tested and Poorly Executed Marketing Choice' would be another option, although it doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

According to the description, the Urien Rakarth masterclass is the only one exclusive to the book. I'm debating about whether or not it's worth it, myself...painting advice is always nice, and I could probably use the techniques for painting glass and NMM since I haven't bothered to research either one independently, but still, it's $30.
I'll probably buy it, but that's the only thing that seems to be worth the price among these items.

I'm tempted by the masterclass book. It could potentially be nice, but I'd want to hear from other people who got it and liked it. I know the FW masterclass book got good reviews here.

How much use have you guys gotten from the existing How To books? I have three of them and I'd say I've learned about 1% of the little I know about painting from them and 99% from the internet. I doubt I will ever buy another one of those unless I find myself in a money-wasting contest.

Whalemusic360 and I were discussing this batch of releases last evening whilst playing the Horde mode on Gears of War 3.
The book is a collection of the 'Best' White Dwarf painting articles, dating from the Space Marine codex release to relatively recently.
Personally, I have found those articles to be exceedingly helpful over the years. There is only one which has not been published prior:
Anja Wettergren's Urien Rakarth tutorial.
Her work alone is usually worth the cost of a White Dwarf, as she's pretty damn good at explaining how she does things.

I think the 'eavy metal masterclass book could be good - those articles in WD are without doubt the one of the only things in that magazine that is worth reading. Also the brush set doesn't seem a bad price, but I'd have liked a fine detail brush, it kind of goes without saying that you use higher standard brushes for the detail and lower standard brushes for the basecoats.
As to the paint station, £32 for a bit of plastic and some water pots and palates? I think I'll stick to my wood and food pot thank you very much!

I agree, I find the "how to" DVDs much better, the good ones that is. It's so different seeing the artist actually using his/her technique rather than seeing simple individual photos.

I'm pretty sure they are the W&N Series 7 brushes, simply rebranded.
I went on one of the Eavy Metal Masterclasses earlier in the year and we got given two Series 7 brushes as part of it. One of the painters let slip that they would be releasing them later this year... and here they are.

Well seeing as I already own most of those masterclasses (and a fair few more on top of that) All it would take is for me to staple them all together and I am set! Could be quite handy if they keep bringing them out though as I stopped buying the WD when it went bad.
Not liking the "old man beige" carrying case although the actual interior looks well set out.

Anyone know if I can download "Neil Green's Wolf Guard"? That's probably the only article I would care to check out in the Masterclass book.

So I could spend my money and get two, fething two brushes in a cheap pencil tin? What happened to the lovely previous version that while considerably more expensive, came with a full set of brushes, cloth, brush soap, little Boltgun shell water pot in a wonderful wooden box, and it's been reduced to this. Also, the Medium "can thin down paints into glazes", doesn't water do the same thing? Very disappointed GW, very disappointed indeed. Also, I can imagine this in a GW meeting: "So guys, any other ideas on Christmas releases?" "How about some new Megaforces, maybe for Eldar or Tau, possibly even Tyranids?" "Good grief no, we're trying to run a business here. Any suggestions?" "I know, we take our regular dice, but we make them slightly translucent!" "Profit!"

Water can thin paints into washes, not necessarily glazes.
But yeah. It is a disappointing one.

I only own one actual how-to book, the terrain one. While I'm not sure if I learned anything from it, per se, seeing the finished terrain does inspire me and give me ideas in a way that just looking at it on a website doesn't. If I'd have to guess why, I'd say it's because it walks you through it from beginning to end and it's at a level I feel like I could actually accomplish. I don't see much of that on Dakka.

You guys will probably laugh at me for this, but I think the cases look pretty good. For a smallish sized army, they could work great, as you have plenty of infantry capacity, as well as the pick and pluck for big stuff/vehicles. The only thing I don't like is the gak brown color on the 40k one.
