There's a lot of GW hate spewing on the board. It becomes tiring to hear someone whining over literally every business decision that GW makes. Between the Mat Ward hate, the Finecast hate, the New Codex hate, the "Dreadfleet isn't x" hate, and the "Why won't they just do y like my ill-conceived notion of what a reasonable company would" threads, I think we have enough to justify a separate subforum somewhere. We could call it the "Hate Tank" or "Complaint Box" or something.

+1 for the 'Complaint Box'.
And it doesn't even have to be GW-orientated. Got a gripe with PP? Battlefront? Some other miniature company? Put it in the Complaint Box!

+1 here too. I'm in favour of it being general complaints rather than specific GW. Although I think we know which company will receive the most flak.

I can really see that s being useful. Because I get really annoyed as well from all the anti whatever threads. Infact, I stay completely away from certain forums during launch of codices and new GW decisions because those forums are just swamped with those type of threads

Fully agree with OP. Get all that grumbling out of the way. Hell. I'd take it further and also make seperate sections for things like the VS threads etc.
And get some more stickies up about questions that come up on a daily basis which we have a clear anwser to. (which primarch is strongest etc.)

I'm not a fan of it either. I'm just really bothered by the constant negativity.
I'm trying to be more practical/constructive than calling on mods to lock every thread that voices a negative opinion against GW. If they screw up, I'm all for it getting pointed out. Its just that it then becomes a echo chamber that never really stops. It really wouldn't be that bad a thing were it not in literally every single subforum.

I don't really see it as being all that productive as an added section myself.
I'm not sure a section dedicated to blind rage would work out all to well, though the OT does seem to get that label it's not always like that.

I live in the P&M section of Dakka so I don't see it as much. That said, I think having a place where people can nerd rage would be a good idea. It would give the people that wish to engage in such conversation a specific place to do so, and give people like me fair warning to avoid that place like the Zombie Plague.

I guess if you really wanted you could generalise it more instead of just being about all the GW hate. Though we have a 40k section and it doesn't stop all the 40k threads show up in the dakka discussion area.

I suspect the law of unintended but utterly foreseeable consequences dooms this idea. Specifically:
The Future, if this plan moves forward, wrote:
News post about Codex: Smurfs is released. It's written by Matt Ward. Within the first 2 posts talking about the Smurf wargear, Hater A posts that Matt Ward is the worst villain since Hitler. White Knight A posts that Matt Ward comes by his grandmothers house every weekend and mows her grass for free. Hater B posts that Matt Ward once gave a puppy the finger for no reason at all.
Now that the Codex: Smurfs thread is well and truly an open sewer, numerous people start to report the thread asking it be moved to the Crap Tank or whatever you're going to call this new collection of vitriol. Since those people are now sort of right, and there is a tidy box to put it in, the moderators oblige. End result: No one got to talk about Codex: Smurfs. Repeat for every single thread that involves Matt Ward, Finecast, or whatever.
My suggestion to fix this would be to stop locking or hiding threads that devolve into crapflinging (thus tangentially rewarding the crap flingers, and boning everyone who wanted to have a discussion) and to actually punish the crapflingers.

I'm still a new face here, so maybe I don't have the right to talk about how things are done here, but for what it's worth I can't see much value in making a separate subforum just for GW hate-- it does nothing to prevent people from hating in other threads. A dedicated subforum doesn't prevent GW/Matt Ward/whatever bile in threads only tangentially related to those things, and locking those threads for that reason would just disrupt actual discussion.
I think a viable solution would be to crack down on noncontributing hate-spewing as an actionable offense using warnings or temp bans. It's the difference between bolting on an auxiliary septic tank and actually cleaning the toilet.

I think this is better. I figure if somebody is only flinging crap in every thread, they can stand to cool off and go somewhere else for a little while.

I agree with both statements. Rather than allow it to happen, why not crackdown harder on it? I know its more work for the Mods, but I imagine its less work than modding a new subforum that users will think allows them to ignore the normal rules.

I think it'd be a reasonable idea, even just to have all the threads in one place so people can stop creating them everyday and just stick to one giant thread of baseless nerd-rage.

That's a pretty big "if", which is at the root of the problem. The mere existence of garbage cans, however convenient, does not stop people from littering. Likewise, simply having the subforum offers no promise that all of the haters and trolls will politely isolate their ravings to it and not just keep dumping them in other threads across the board like before.
Also consider what it means to have a subforum on your site that is quite literally nothing but hate and flames.

So you propose, to carry on your metaphor, that since people continue to litter, we simply don't use garbage cans?
People still kill others despite murder being illegal, should we just leglise it since it obviously isn't working?
Spam cannot be completely wiped out, but if we can contain even a goodly amount of it in one place, then it's a victory, however minor, and it's less spam that afflicting the site as a whole.
I also see nothing wrong with having a forum for rants. If you don't like it, don't use it (should really be the motto of the internet that).

"Complain"
Express dissatisfaction or annoyance about a state of affairs or an event.
It is an opinion, just like every "like", there is also a "dislike".
This is different from "haters" which is opposite of "fan boys"
There are complains that are justifiable and fair, yet there are also haters that just want to troll and wreak havoc , how does one sort it out?
To create a complaint forum isn't realistic, because people's opinions are not "garbage" to be thrown out just because they don't like something you like.
As i said, some complaints are reasonable, they are also usually short. "Drama" doesn't usually start until white knights and fan boys drops in to bash the complainers.
E.G fine casts. Are they stable? like plastics? they arnt. There will be complaints, especially when people keep receiving them.... or until GW step up their quality checks.
e.g if white knights blindly defend GW, then its not about finecast anymore, it has now turned into something else ugly.
Its like accusing the ones that received bad copies /miscasts to be BSing when they are telling the truth.
The best way to stop complains, is to let it go... it usually doesnt get blown out of more than a setence...,
Or be polite... maybe something like " we feel your pain, but lets get back on topic"
compared to....
what is NOT a good way to stop complaints are " omfg shut up, my finecasts are all fine so w/e yours cant be that bad! you hater! "
Just my 2 cents, ya i know, im a whiner *blush.
Also, if the idea was a forum where we all sing songs and praise about GW's immaculate accomplishments without hearing any one speaking of the tarnishes....
then you should ask yourself, what are you really looking for to start with.

...straight from garbage to murder? Seriously?
The point I was making was that the presence of a receptacle does not guarantee its use, which is kind of what corpsesarefun seemed to be suggesting-- although I'm probably being uncharitable.

If you think it would help to have such a place on the forum, I can't object, but I have a hard time believing it will reduce the amount of white noise in other parts of the site-- the only thing that can meaningfully accomplish that is sanctions, as previously stated, that consumes mod time and effort; it's up to them whether that's more or less effort than it would take to drop the hammer harder on haters forumwide.

To expand further on my "theory"
If anyone were to make a thread in dakka discussion forum titled "what do you dislike about finecast"
how many of you would go in it to tell people to stop disliking finecast?
some would still go knowing fully its a complaint thread, its correctly labeled as so too! then why are we compelled to participate?
then what is the difference where that thread exists? may it be in "dakka discussion" or " the garbage hater section"?
why does it matter to you guys? surely someone can answer?
