Mutated Chosen Chaos Marine

So a buddy of mine is a power gamer in the worst way. Recently he scratch built a warlord Titan and plays it against the rest of us. Now, no one else in our area has a Titan, I have a Baneblade and a buddy of mine has 2 Baneblades.
We've tried telling him its not really fair, but his arguments range from equal point values to taking Lucas, the Trickster to get rid of it. Plus he is a retired veteran living at home so his income is quite substantial compared to the rest of us.
Currently when he plays it he will surround it with Thunderwolf Cav lords to prevent assaulting it and if its removed he simply uses the strategy that allows him to redoploy a lost unit. My question to you dakka members is how can we take it out and knock him down a peg?

Drop-pod combi-meltas in front of it. Get as much melta as you can in its face.

Here is my problem, I play Grey Knights and we don't get Drop pods. I would have to blow large amounts of money to build a few units for that singular purpose which kinda seems like a waste of money.

Well for one I wouldn't let him use that strategic asset, thats assinine. An yes multiple combi meltas should do the trick, deep striking TH/SS terminators would also help. 3+ vs his double turbo lasers, which I have to believe he is using.

I just simply wouldnt play him, if he wants to be that silly about it.
Alternative is to fight fire with fire and scratch build a couple titans of your own.
Or lots of Meltas.
Or a tonne of TH/SS Terminators. Go for the ankles!

do any of you have jump pack marines? say there vanguard vets for blood angels so they only scatter 1 d6 and take 10 with meltabombs and chainfists once dead proceed to ket your vets killed and use the same strategem he used and have them all deep strike back in and kill the thing again how many points is the titan im pretty sure 30 vanguard vets with metla bombs and chainfists are cheaper!

Can grey knights bring any melta? You could do with it. The weird thing is against some frankly cheap IG units with meltas Titans die so wonderfully easily.
I would go for the techmarine with orbital strike relays. They are not very likely to scatter off the titan, they have range unlimited range so your techmarines should be safe from everything but the titan.
Once the titan is down, then you have the other barrages which will make a mess of any loose troops he has lying around.

purpose built anti titan weapons are good.
Storm Blades, Shadowswords and other dedicated super heavy/titan killer tanks
fully loaded a stormblade or SHadowsword can potentially have 4 lascannons blasting away with its giant main gun too. along with the heavy bolters for infantry.
another Titan (or a few smaller Titans) with anti armor weapons.
Or the aformentioned masses metla weapons at close range.
PLus massed amount of anti tank weapons work. Lascannons, and such enmass.

Kick it over.
But seriously; that's not power-gaming. That's just being a dick. And that comes from a huge TFG. My only suggestion would be that, since he is using a scratchbuild, which is therefore a proxy, proxy one of your own. By the same logic he fields his with, this is fine.

I would scratch build one if I had the aptitude for converting and stuff. He spent over $500 on GW models for kit bashing to make this thing and make it legal for tournament play.
I was thinking of C:SM with Vulkan and a couple drop pods full of Sternguards with combi meltas. Maybe Devastators with multi meltas in drop pods. Though I could essentially do the same with Blood Angels(kinda like the Vanguard Vets idea) or Space Wolves(Could take Lucas) minus taking Vulkan. Which is the cheapest/most effective for the points?

A few things that would upset him include:
Giving Marbo and/or Deathleaper a Vortex Grenade.
Using Anrakyr and/or Changeling to fire on his own units.
Keeping your units more than 36" away from it when Night Fighting is in effect.

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun |

If it is an apoc game, vortex gernade. My LGS wont let people play with an unfair advantage on one side.... ie. They dont want me running with my warhound and dual turbo laser destructors. STR D takes a lot of things off the board if you hit a sweet spot.
-So either tell him he can not run it.
-Build somethign to take it down.
-Take a full turn of shooting everything you have at it to TRY to kill it.
I would just put a restriction on it, the Glaidator at Adepticon in Chicago says that you cant run anything above 3 structure points.

I had almost forgotten about that! Awesome idea! A few of those, a Titan of my own, maybe a few Shadowswords, and take a vortex grenade on a character that can deep strike and that should wipe his Titan along with a bunch of other stuff. Thanks for all the ideas!

Use flyers. It doesn't have any AA.
A couple Stormravens and Vendettas will run circles around it.
A vortex grenade will take care of the Thunderwolves. no saves B****es!!!
A couple units of Necron Warriors will glance the poor sod right quickly. He probably won't even realize whats happening.

Sorry just realized that it was a Warlord, yes the best way would be to run around 30-50 scarabs and then Gauss weapons lots and lots of gauss weapons. This thing has 36 hull points, you would need 36 glances to take it out. Vortex weapons only do D3 structure points so while it sounds good Vortex rolls of only 1 structure point would wanna make ya cry, that an Vortex is hard to come by. I would take my Thunderhawk, 3 Storm Ravens, and 3 Vendettas against it, they should be able to do some damage expecially the Melta from the Ravens and the Turbo Laser from the Thunderhawk. An I would have 3 Vindicators and 2 Demolishers nuking the Cav on the ground, well whatever survived the shooting from the farking Warlord Titan at least. I have 2 Warhounds, an Achilles and a Termininus he would have to deal with as well.
Lets see I could take the 2 Warhounds and the Thunderhawk that would equal the points of the Warlord, but I think 2 Warlords and then my smaller flyers would be equal as well an have a better shot at killing the Warlord than the 2 smaller titans and the Thunderchicken.

Entropic Strike only effects super heavies on a 6 though. so the armor reduction of the Scarabs won't totally destroy it, it will be annoying though.

How about an assassin? A turbopenetrator always helps. Oh, and possibly tau allies with 3 broadsides? Put them with some shield drones and behind cover and that thing will be getting loads of penitrating hits without being able to do anything. And a tau manta into the mix never hurts either

Vortex weapons may only do a d3 structure points but both the Vortex Grenade and the blast from the Vortex missile stick around to continue eating things. So there is the possibility of continuously losing structure points, plus those templates will eat up his long fangs and TWC, and while he is busy trying to run from those I can keep shooting him up long range firepower.

Just be wary with long range shooting. Warlord Titans have 8 Void Shields. That means with shooting over 12" away you will be needing 8 Glances or Penetrating hits against AV12 before you can even start hurting the Titan. Vortex weapons exempted.

Sorry that's only 27 hull points.
It just dawned on me though flyers will make this things life miserable, all you have to do is stun it, it used to be that only one weapon was affected but now seeing as how it uses the standard damage table a stunned result will mess it up, sure all of its weapons are primary but you have a 50/50 shot at silencing them for a turn. Mass Ravens with multi meltas will ruin this guys day. Automatically Appended Next Post: Grey Templar wrote:Just be wary with long range shooting. Warlord Titans have 8 Void Shields. Of course Since I've got a start on my IG army I'll be using lots of lascannon heavy weapons teams and other long range weapons to keep the pressure on him while the vortex templates cause him to scatter his forces.
