Subject: Warhammer 40K Video Bat Rep #248 Knights vs Necrons (JY2 challenges Reecius for a spot on Team0Comp)
JY2 calls down the thunder and challenges Reecius' for a spot on Team0Comp! JY2 is playing his brutal Necron army against Reecius' new Knight and Astra Militarum list. Will JY2 earn a spot on Team0Comp or will Reecius continue his winning streak? NOTE: A Primaris Psyker no longer fulfills the mandatory HQ, sorry for the confusion!

What is Reccius' winning streak? 10,000 games?

So do you guys play that you can assault through ruin walls?
The charge to wreck the ghost arc and the last turn charge to kill the immortals on Reece's objective seemed like they required the knights to go through buildings.

It's his business and his ads and products are popular on this site, why wouldnt he? And its true advertising, I already own a snow mat and just ordered the urban one yesterday, their mats are awesome.

I fully understand why the commercial is there. I know he has a business and wants to make money. Nothing wrong with that. And I agree that the mats are awesome. I'm just voicing my opinion and I'm entitled.

As long as he has line of sight he can charge through the ruins if that is what they played them as.
@Reece What an awesome matchup! Two very interesting hardcore tournament armies with two excellent players mashing it up. That was very fun to watch and congrats to Jim for joining Team Zero Comp!

Congrats Jim on joining Team Zero Comp! That one Vendetta did a number on your flyers. Good work on getting rid of other units and throwing speed bumps in front of the Knights.
Thanks for the kind words, guys. Glad I was able to beat Reece to make it into the team. BTW, it had to be Reece, the captain of T0C, just because Reece needs someone who can challenge him.
First off, I'd like to thank Reece for taking the time from his busy schedule to play against me in this challenge match.
Secondly, I'd like to say that I am thrilled to be a member of Team Zero Comp. I'm not sure why I didn't do this sooner, but I am glad to be a part of this group who is helping to promote the hobby.
Now just a slight correction to my list. It was actually this:
While this game was close, I'd like to think that Reece got a little lucky by winning the roll to go 2nd. If I had been able to go 2nd, I think my chances of winning would have been much, much better. Alas, by me going 1st, it actually made the game a more even matchup.
I made a number of mistakes in this game. Fortunately for me, so did Reece. So what were my mistakes?
1. I poked my ghost ark a little too far out. Reece's IK was then able to see it and thus, charge it.
2. Instead of focusing on his IK on Turn 4 with 1 flyer and 2 AB's, I should have focused on his vendetta instead. I swear, his vendetta got so lucky. I believe he made every single jink save for it.
3. After assaulting and breaking his veteran squad with my bargelord, I then consolidated away from his IK. I should have consolidated towards it instead. Why? Because there was another bargelord there already. This way, his IK charges and kills 1. Next turn, I do my sweeping attack against it. Instead, I consolidated away, his IK charged my bargelord and then my other bargelord was out of range to do his sweep attack.
4. I ran prematurely with my disembarked immortals on Turn 5. I actually did my Movement and Run at the same time (at the recommendation by Reece). I then did my sweep attack with my bargelord against his veterans and they broke! Had I waited to do my Run move with my immortals in the Shooting phase as opposed to in the Movement phase, I could have blocked off the wall, thus denying his IK from charging my immortals and contesting the objective at the bottom of 5.
So what was Reece's mistakes?
1. I assaulted his IK with 2 bargelords. Reece then split his attacks against my 2 bargelords because he got the Destroyer rules wrong (he was still thinking about 6E Destroyer rules). Thus, both Overlords end up surviving and then I killed his knight. Had he reviewed the rules, he would have focused his attacks against 1 bargelord and most likely killed him. Then perhaps I wouldn't have been able to kill his IK with just 1 bargelord.
2. His IK should have made a play for my Emperor's Will objective much sooner. Instead, I was able to draw away his IK by moving my AB's away from it and he took the bait. Then I was able to screen out his IK with my troops to ensure that he couldn't make it to my objective.
3. Twice he forgot to activate his Psyker's force weapons. He could have potentially killed 2 Overlords with it as I failed saves on my Overlords on 2 separate occasions due to his psyker's force axe.
4. He deployed his blob squad + Warlord a little too far from the protection of his knights. Of course it helped that he rolled low to move through difficult terrain and on their Run move while trying to get away from my Overlords, but had they been closer to his IK's, I would have been much less inclined to assault them.
So overall, we both made some mistakes and that in turn made the game much bloodier. But still, I was actually quite surprised at how well his knights worked together. Deciding to deploy in a flank was actually a good strategy on Reece's part, and those knights were just vicious. I really couldn't do much to them and so I didn't even really try (well, except for that 1 assault with my 2 bargelords ). Then again, going into the game, my strategy never really was to kill off his knights. Rather, my strategy was to kill off the rest of his army and other than the vendetta, I basically achieved that.

No, you cannot assault through ruins if you cannot see the target. Here is what happened:
1. I made a mistake with my ghost ark and pushed it forwards a little too much. Reece's IK was then able to see the nose of my ark and thus was able to assault.
2. As for my immortals, I made another mistake and ran before finishing my Movement phase. Otherwise, my goal was to seal off the wall, thus preventing his IK from even moving within 1" of the ruin walls. However, his knight found an opening and what he did was to move his IK up to the 2nd level of the ruins (he just placed it on the ground floor because of wobbly model syndrome, but his IK was actually in the ruins on the 2nd floor). From there, he could see my immortals and thus, was able to assault them.

Yeah, we keep trying to get better at the presentation.
@Gundor2
If you don't like them, that is your prerogative, but as others stated, we do have a business to run and we see it as a give and a get. We give you a (hopefully) cool bat rep to enjoy, we get you taking a look at our mats to possibly purchase. Win, win!
As much as it may be to my detriment, I'm hoping to draw Reece as an opponent at NOVA... Preferably something like game 7 or 8! Too bad you can't make NOVA Jim.
Definitely a good solid game and very enjoyable.
Reece, love the new commercial. Frontline gaming.ORK.... I'm still laughing!

Oh, I'm sure I'll find the time to watch it, who'd you play?
I like your guys battle reports, but I have a feeling if I ever stepped into that store for a friendly game, I would get stomped by....lets say less than casual fun armies heh. I don't think I have seen a game without at least one army that makes me cringe when I see whats in it so far.

We actually play friendly games all the time, we just don't film them. We always ask what type of game folks want to play. We have a lot of munchkins that hang out in the shop, casual gamers, new gamers, and we always try to give the game the other person is looking for. We just present these games to the community as that is what most folks are looking for from us.
For example, just yesterday a 12 year old wanted to play his Orks vs. my Orks in a battle where we tried to take each other's Ork fortress and it was a blast! We made up half the rules as we went, I (of course) let him win so that he had a great time and it was awesome. But, that wouldn't make for a very enjoyable bat rep for most folks, you know?

Oh I understand, its just seeing those kinds of armies is pretty intimidating. Mabye I have been playing too long and miss the old GW ran tournaments, where you had comp scores, painting, could be judged for conversions ect. Sometimes it wasent the most dominating force on the field that won the tournaments, made it just a bit different than a video game tournament where its just the best builds/strategy win the day. More hobby like. But then again maybe its for the best as you always had complaints of chimpmonking, accusations of people paying to have their armies pro painted that had never picked up a brush before, and Im sure other ways to judge that left more deserving winners in lower brackets.
I always try and build well balanced friendly lists, even if I do occasionally sit across from a 2 transcendent ctan list, and wish I had just declined the game heh. Its not the players fault for only wanting to invest in most bang for their buck models at these prices. I just wish with every edition GW would re-examine itself and try and become a serious game company, instead of one that dosent mind crapping on their own IP and game if it means writing stats that would be drool worthy to push plastic and damn the concequences to the game.
Mabye I should just branch out for a while into other games and give 40k a break. Do you guys ever do warmahordes or infinity batreps? I hear those are pretty fun, and well balanced to boot.
