Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

As usual, 2 days to pick a theme for September's round. October will see the return of the annual Halloween Spooktacular round, so the runner up here will return in November. Your options are:

'That's not a gun... THIS is a gun': Cannon to rocket launcher, catapult to orbital bombardment, sometimes bigger guns are just better. Your entry should feature miniatures bringing maximum firepower to the tabletop.

'Snazzy': much-requested in this month's thread, this theme would call for your fanciest minis, decked out in finery and frippery and all manner of shiny things. From a well-clothed noble to an Ork with gold teef, the more ostentatious, gaudy and grandiose the better!

In The Name of The Gods: whether for good or evil, many warriors serve in battle in the name of higher powers, from radiant celestial beings to dark and mysterious patrons hiding in the oldest and darkest corners of creation. Your entry should feature such devout and pious models.

On Wings Of Death: Swooping in from above, this theme calls for your aerial units to scramble and take the fight the fight to the skies. Whether borne aloft by wings, jetpacks, aircraft or magic, your models should be those dealing death from above.

I've got some sororitas I've been wanting to paint for ages, plus an Inquisitor Greyfax... so in the name of the gods for me.

Being only loosely and completely accidentally connected to the true villains behind Snazzy and, when it comes down to it, not really involved with the creation and propagation of that option at all, it would appear that I could pick any of the given choices. But knowing the questionable nature of a portion of these agitators I'm going to vote for Snazzy so no death squads come knocking down my door. Better safe than sorry.

I could’ve gone wings but then the snazz took hold and my vote slipped.

I voted for wings, just because I need help getting a stormhawk out of the primed pile, but should be good for any of these. Gods would the the hardest, but I could get something.

Not sure I've got anything for Snazzy; the only minis I had which might fit are currently getting painted for Helping Hand!
Might have to sit this one out... I'll see if I can think of anything. (Edit - I'll have a poke around in my old WFB Empire Pile of Shame; might well be something blingy in there! )

I chose god's, as I'm starting a tzeentch kill team, but my hovering sorcerer/annointed with his colourful scheme will work for wings or snazzy too.

Snazzy's already winning, they'd just be throwing away their money xD

I'll pay you an internet buck to vote to vote for Gods, though?

Well I've had two Havocs sitting around in their primer for almost a month now, but I'm voting for them to keep waiting, the rise of Snazzy out of nowhere folk-hero-style is too good to pass up.

Well, it's not "beef, teef, and gubbins," but Snazzy appeals to me. I have some samurai commanders that have been languishing in a box for years.

Now showing Catachan Jungle Fighters and World War zombies!

Painting total as of 30th November 2025: 136 plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

'That's not a Gun... This is a gun'

It fits so many models.

My two cents,

CancelledApocalypse covered why the capitalist swine in me considers the matter resolved already, but you also have to consider the importance of getting democracy right. You want a clear result, you want safe distance from competitors, but you don't want a a landslide victory. It's going to look unbelievable and people will suspect foul play. Can't have that! This is a totally legit, democratic vote!

I was certain when I woke up this morning, in that hazy just-out-of-bed state where your grip on reality is questionable, that somebody had inserted 'traitor to the cause' into the poll and it'd been a runaway winner. Not sure if it's a viable subject for consideration next month - seems like certain factions would have trouble finding someone to fit the bill - but I came up with an idea for an entry (I mean, more specific that just 'chaos marine, they're all traitors by definition') before I realised I'd imagined the whole thing. So hey, the painting challenge is getting me to paint miniatures it's not even suggesting now.

Interested to know what options you're thinking of? All I can think of is someone with a big gun... not super helpful to someone who paints Eldar. Though I guess I've still got a load of Wraithlords to paint...

But Ork painters should love it!

But Ork painters should love it!

My current options are: Convert some SM Devastators, or a SM Vindicator. Or a Leman Russ Vanquisher. Or a Stormcast Knight-Judicator, with that massive bow. Or a Celestar Ballista. Or a Tau Broadside battlesuit. Or an Ork Mek gun. So I've got lots to choose from, mostly because I collect way too many things, TBH!

I guess for Eldar, a Fire Prism, or a Guardian weapon platform, or a Wraithlord with a bright lance, or a bike with a shuriken cannon, or a war walker would all work... it's been a while since I looked at the Eldar list, but it used to be one that had a lot of firepower!

I'd be raging, frankly, that snazzy was losing, if I wasn't planning on doing MCU Skurge either way

I'm actually at a loss as to my entry if Big Guns wins. I was quite looking forward to the samurai...

I thought I was going to be stuck for a big gun but then I had a rummage around and have found something that somewhat fits the bill. Of course I have!

I'm certain I have dozens of models that fit the theme, but like you, I have to dig into the Closet of Potential to actually decide what to work on.

I had a Burrows & Badgers Cat Duelist all lined up for Snazzy too. Too bad I was counting my snazzy chickens before they hatched (with big guns)

Funny though, the closet of potential turned up at least three big guns options. Only one of which I really had any interest in painting.

Still wish the vote went snazzy. Is there still time?

Probably - it's pretty close!
I think Snazzy is the option I've got the least for... I was thinking I'd do Yndrasta (the SCE character) for 'Gods' or 'Wings', and also see if I could get away with her for 'Snazzy' too. I'd pretty much given up on 'Guns', so I haven't picked anything particular out yet!

Still, I should probably finish Helping Hands first...

The "THIS is a Gun" lead came out of nowhere! Well, I guess I don't have to enter every round...

Wait, we don’t?! I’ve been doing it wrong all this time…

I should use this month to paint some heavy support options for my company, but think I’ll do an eldar autarch with a ML instead.

You don’t HAVE to but then you don’t often have an excuse for a magnetised Little Timmy conversion where you take a miniature with a regular one handed pistol pose and then replace the pistol with a series of larger and larger guns until you can’t see to paint it for the tears of laughter.
