Optimus, Sharp - great to meet you at Meeplemart today! I appreciate you both being willing to play scenarios from the Battle Missions book - I really like the variety that the book offers.
Optimus: thanks for charging those Hammernators at my one remaining Tyranid Warrior in the 6th turn when you didn't need to, just to make it interesting. I shall name that Warrior "Bruce Lee" for being able eat more Terminators than my Trygon could.
Sharp, nice work with the poison against my poor MCs. I have to say, I never thought of Scourges as "hard targets" until today. I was sad to see my Tyrant and Trygon (and Zoanthropes, etc. etc.) led off in chains to the Dark Eldar slave pits :(
I'm guessing that this coming Easter Sunday is going to be pretty quiet: but if anyone is up for a game at Meeplemart, let me know!

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
Another epic day at Legends with the imperial guard and space wolves taking on the Tyranids and Dark Eldar. The mindlessly heroic Tyranids and foolishly cowardly Dark Eldar got pounded for 4 solids turns by massed gunfire and bayonette tips yet were still able to be in a winning position by the end of turn 5. Fortunately it went on to turn 6 where the last Tyranid troops threatening the Imperial Held objective were flamed, yet somehow the mindless creature were touched by the hive mind's will and took their own objective and the single heroic Dark Eldar scourge landed to contest the third. Alas, fate would not smile on the xenos and it continued to turn 7 for a resounding 3-nil victory for the forces of the Imperium. I'm always impressed to see how far the game has come since I started in 2nd edition where a "large" 1500 point game could take upwards of 6 hours. Now with 4000 points a side, we were able to pound out a 7 turn 2v2 game in around 5 and a half. Thanks to the participants for the epicness. Honourable mention goes the 1 unit from each army, Wyches and their transport who showed up first for the Dark Eldar, fought and escaped angry terminators, rallied at the last second and just when the Imperium's forces were about to completely envelope the xenos, landed in the think of it and immobalized the lead rhino and chimera with well placed grenades, causing a roadblock and stopping their enemies from overrunning the lasr stronghold of xenos stregth in the battle. Then they ate the full force of the imperial guard firepower on the whole right flank before being wiped. Had the game ended on turn 5, they would have been the reason for the xenos victory (fortunately it went all the way to 7). Their transport alone, single handidly killed more space wolves that anything else when it finally was exploded by plasma gun fire on turn 7. For the Wolves it has to go to the drop pod terminators who saw off a squad of wyches, slaughtered the trueborn and with but the wolf lord alive, single handedly crushed an albeit wounded Trygon Prime and the Hive Tyrant and his two bodyguards holding up and crushing the main push by the tyranid's deadliest monsters. The Tyranid MVP goes to the legally blind Hive Guard who Heroically stood there and didn't see the wolf lord terminator charge in, thunderhammer swinging. Lashing out, before he could even attack, they caused all 4 possible wounds, which was followed by three 1's on the four 2+ armour saves, killing the Superhuman Marine before he could kill anything else. This turned the tide of battle back from having the whole tyranid army on it's heels and enabled them the push forward again. For the Imperial Guard, it would have to be the Commissar Lord and his 31 followers, regular humans all, who in a battle of genetically engineer supermen, monsterous aliens bred for sluaghter and xenos with weapons far beyond what mortal men can imagine, slew 16 furiously charging hormaguants dripping with poison, 12ish poisonous genestealers and their broodlord armed with claws and talons and then led the chard back to the middle to engage the Tervigon monster in close combat, ending it's threat at the point of a simple Sgt's power sword. They alone stopped the close quarters troops of the Tyranid army from overwhelming the guard position at the onset and throught the game, allowing the guards other forces to focus on the rest of the xeno threats.
Sadly, I forgot to keep taking pics at turn 4 so the only battle report on this epicness will be what was witnessed by those who fought it.

Yeah was a great game today, though i think it's high time the tyrannofex took a backseat and i fielded two tervigons instead. The crappy bs/ ws of MC's makes the rupture cannon to hard of a pill to swallow, though it does mean i need to pick up more termagaunts to support the double tervigon special .
As for the tournie coming up at legends, i've already signed up and i believe 3 others have as well so spots are going fast. Plus considering the crowd we usually get at legends on sundays it should be a great day of gaming win or lose .

Thanks for the sincere reply.
Hope you can make it out to Legends soon... we had some great games Sunday. Also, there is a tournament coming in April! Automatically Appended Next Post: Yes... great game on Sunday.... I was surprised at how close the match was, until the 6th and 7th turns, when the nids and dark eldar just didn't have any fuel left in their tanks... actually, part of the problem was that we simply didn't have any TANKS!!!! LOL
Tournament is April 22, 2012 guys... I think 3 or 4 guys have already registered... we know for sure we will have a Dark Eldar combatant, a Necrons combatant, an Imperial Guard combatant and probably a Tyranids player (unless Rythem brings the Blood Angels). Hoping that JonST and Optimus will be signing up as well... and Styrofoam and MoreDakka.... only 6 or 7 spots left guys... so get in and register... Let's separate the grunts from the officers!

I love to make it out there. My 4 armies kind of max out at 1500 pts and I noticed the tourny is for 1850. I may be able to get my orks up to 1850 but the list would not be tourny style it would be filling my units to max out points just to get to 1850. I'll see what I can do and let you know. I also have a friend who plays Chaos SM and he likely has a 1850 pts army that he could max out. I'll see what I can do and let you know. It's only a 45 min drive and i'm dying to get in on my first tourny. I hope you will tolerate us. We know the rules well but by no means are experts and will need some guidance.

Ideally we'll have enough "regulars" to not have people showing up with boring tourney lists, so your "not tournament list" is welcome.

I'll try, but I'm already doing a full day on the 29th for the Meeplenmart Tourny. I have to convice Mrs. Optimus that she has to look after the kid for another full day.

Good game all around guys, it was a nail biter. Still can't believe the wolf lord lived through all those attacks only to die to a pair of blind non power weapon hive guard....
Sidenote, I forgot as I always forget, the thunderhammer drops whatever it hits to i1 until the next turn, and here I was nicely letting the nids swing first, thankfullly the invul saved everything lol.

Skycap44: Your 'not tourney list' would be welcomed at the Legends tourney on April 22, 2012. The Legends crowd talk some trash...not me... but the other guys... but we are all laid back and easy to get along with.... Some know the rules well, and others are similar to yourself... we choose to play the game and have fun... and win at all costs, of course... so no worries about your level of expertise. Also, for example, I have never been in a tourney and I do not have a 'tourney list'.... I just have the stuff I have and I make do... as best as I can... The Legends tourney will likely be a great place for you to start.
Kungfu: Dark eldar have flying tanks?? Cool... guess they were flying so fast they were obscured all game... I never saw them! LOL So defensive... gosh... I was just stating some facts... that's all...
Optimus: You are freakin OptimusPrime and you have to get permission to go to a tourney? Ha ha... Maybe you left off the end of your tag name on dakka... Optimus Prime? You are aware that 'prime' refers to 1. First in excellence, quality, or value. 2. First in degree or rank; chief. ??? Maybe you should be called 'Optimus "Subordinate" to Prime wife'... .he he...
Everyone: I just picked up a special prize that I will give away to the winner of the First Legends Warhammer 40K tournament.... I can't tell you what it is... but it will be forever cherished by the winner... trust me.

I'm talking about the 16 person, Astronomi-con prep, 40k Tournament that I'm running at Meeplemart.
Meeplemart is at 290 Carlaw Ave, Unit 202. The address is somewhat hidden at the bottom of the FAQ page.

Legends sounds great. Myself and my chaos SM are down. I've got an 1850 ork list put together from every model I own and it's just enough so should work out well. I don't have a chance to go to Legends to register as I live far enough away. I sent them an email, you think that should be enough to register? I'm glad to hear you are all laid back. I am by no means a win at all cost player. Just looking to get some practice before trying my luck at astronomi-con which I missed last year. To be honest I have only played against my chaos buddy so it will be interesting. The meeplemart tourny sounds cool too but looks almost filled already.

Good times at Meeplemart on Sunday, they have a nice place, really nice tables/terrain and great prices. Parking is a pain, but I think next time I will take the TTC.
Good game with Sharp, my Nobz army definitely showed its teef, but your DE have some great potential. I think they will really shine against an MEQ or heavy mech style army, those Haywire shots definitely put the hurt on armor, and the talos+grotesques will make goo out of the sweet fleshy contents within. Plus all that poison is clearly the best method of dealing with those pesky bugs
I am up for both tournaments at Legends and Meeplemart.
Sharp, are you taking pre-registrations?

Yup! Registration and rules are available on my site. It's pretty much the Astronomi-con rules but only one day and 3 games. The main prizes are Tickets to Astro which will be this summer.
We have 14 people signed up right now and only 2 spots remaining!

Let me know if you are going to show for sure... if so, I can always stop in to Legends tomorrow and register you. I will put the money down and you can pay me when you show for the tourney, or before that if you make it out one weekend. Let me know your name so I can register you. Anyone looking for some games this week? Only available wednesday 11am legends, plus i won't be at legends this sunday as it is easter and my weekend will be tied up doing family things and appeasing the gf who puts up with me buying 40k stuff when I'm currently not working full time .

That was a great game Dakka (even though you creamed me.) You exposed some of the weaknesses in my list and I really did learn a lot!
More Dakka wrote:Sharp, are you taking pre-registrations?
Yup! Registration and rules are available on my site. It's pretty much the Astronomi-con rules but only one day and 3 games. The main prizes are Tickets to Astro which will be this summer.
We have 14 people signed up right now and only 2 spots remaining!
Awesome! Signed up.
@ Dark Eldar Elite, can you sign me up for the Tournament at Legends tomorrow? You can take it out of the payment for your Wracks (which are finished minus basing btw, pics to come )

So there is no Army Comp rules then? Seems like Astro might be abandoning them now?

Yup, they've run 2 or 3 events now without it.
I was one that really liked the Comp system Astro developed, but the newer marine books just broke it beyond repair. It's pretty silly that you can take the same marine list and build it in 4 different codexes and get 4 different point totals, effectiveness and results. With no way to fairly compare BA, GK, SW, DA and SM they just decided to drop it.
I guess now the wacky missions will have to be the only thing keeping the WAAC players away

That was my problem with it.. Some armies (Like Tau) got really hurt by it, and some armies, like those mentioned don't get affected by it at all.
