Dark_Gear wrote:Wow! What a great little side project!

What a shame that these models are no longer available as the "Iron Man version 1" look totally works for pre-heresy Marines.

The red tones and the subtle metallic highlights are stellar as always.

Thanks Dark_Gear!

LutherMax wrote:Nice to have a bit more area to work with - really shows off your colour modulation nicely!

Thanks LutherMax!

Iandroid wrote:Hm... pretty neat. I had no idea there was any company making true-scale stuff. I guess it's not surprising gw shot them down.

Yeah, Hits was making these for about 2 weeks before he had to take them out. Chapterhouse makes something similar but the design doesn't look as good imo.

Meph wrote:Hmmmm I do feel the arms and shoulder pads are awefully out of scale. Lovely paint job as usual though.

Heh, actually the scale would be more realistic but I think we've all gotten so used to the "heroic" scale of SM that anything otherwise looks out of place.

As an aside, Chapterhouse are doing a true-scale kit at the minute.

Yup, CH does them but I don't like any of their designs.

Gitsplitta wrote:Nice models Egg, and a fitting tribute to Hits fine work.

Thanks Gits!

logg_frogg wrote:I just can't get in to the *true scale* thing.

I know what you mean. When I first got them, I was on the fence about the "scale" since I'm so used to GW's scale. After awhile they grew on me.

Yellowbeard wrote:Very nice. I love the effects on the swords and axe.

Thanks Yellowbeard!

inmygravenimage wrote:Cool. And oddly, Chapterhouse's true-scale kit was of course designed by hits_the_spot...

Yup, too bad they don't carry these.

HAZZER wrote:Tbh hey don't really look like SM's to me... the heads all seem off put. But apart from that they look great!

Thanks Hazzer! Yes, the heads are different than the typical GW ones though they do add a nice variation and are a style of their own.

Thanks to all that have been following my work over the last two years. There'll be a slowdown, actually there already has, of my hobby work. I'm prepping for a month long euro trip (UK, Italy, France) and will be leaving in two weeks. Best thing is my gf will be treating me to a trip to Warhammer World for my birthday . Now if I can only convince her to buy me a thunderhawk . Anyhow, I'll pick up my painting once I return in mid June. I should be able to pick up some more FW stuff when I'm overseas.

You actually inspired me to start my own thread revolving around
my ig army i just recently started. I think you would be interested
to know that they are the 33rd sanguiary and are based as an regiment
that works very closely with the BA. Have a good trip!

LutherMax - I'll be in London for a 2 days and Nottingham for another. Most of my trip will be spent in Italy and France.

Marineskilla66 - Welcome to the forums. Good to hear you've started your own army blog. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Have a great trip to Europe and a pleasant birthday pint at Bugman's Bar.

Your painting will be missed but I'm sure you'll be bubbling with ideas upon your return.

Eggroll, you sir are an inspiration, and have just given me an amazing epiphany as it pertains to Daler Rowney inks and speedy glazes via airbrushing. It's so simple yet judging from painting yields great results. Out of curiosity, do you thin the ink at all or do you just spray it in thin coats? Seeing as how I just recently bought my first few bottles of Daler Rowney inks to mix some washes, I'm intrigued as to what other uses there might be for the colourful media.

Well, Eggroll, you've been responsible for several things today, including convincing me to get an account. I now want a new airbrush, some World Eaters (the Chaos equivalent of Blood Angels), and your painting skills! So, I have several things to say.

1) You are insanely good at painting.
2) You have too much disposable income.
3) I've read all 38 pages now, and I don't think think these questions have been asked. On the Damocles rhino conversion, how did you paint the red lenses and the green screens? I can't seem to get the hang of which colours to use.
4) Keep up the good work! You're an inspiration to us all!

1) Thanks Shrike!
2) Yeah, well it's just time and money and you only get to have one at a time. Never did have the money when I was younger to do this hobby and now I don't have the time. Funny how things work out.
3) Yes, screens were all hand painted. I paint them the same way I do gems, start with black base, then do a darker shade of main colour working to the bottom right corner and blending in brighter and brighter colours as you get further down to the right. Then a spot of white at the top left corner finally finishing it with a coat of gloss varnish. For screens with displayed items like the screens on my bikes, I did those by hand using a mix of yellow and white.
4) Thanks again!

Alright, so just made a day trip out to Nottingham to visit Warhammer World today. Picked up the Bugman's special figure, FW Storm Eagle, Relic Contemptor and dual assault cannon arms. Didn't buy anything big as I already spent a lot in London the previous days. Also got TONS of pics of the miniatures hall, gaming tables and a few of the bugman's bar. Was definitely nice to see the place in person along with all the fantastically painted minis and some of the greens and 3 ups. Definitely a pilgrimage any self respecting GW fanboy needs to make at least once in their lifetime Seeing all the 'eavy metal models gave me a boost of motivation and I can't wait to get back and start painting again. Will also have to upload some pics of the trip once I'm back in Canada.

Yes! Are you talking about the PH thousand sons? I took one or two pics of that case and tried to explain to the gf why it was so cool.

That's about £140 worth of models... If that's not buying anything big, what would happen if you decided you did need a lot of models? Ventarii Titan Maniple? Anyway, get painting as soon as possible! And if you want inspiration for the relic contemptor, check out Bohun's (CMoN) space wolves version here.

Well considering the costs of travel and since I'll probably only visit there once in my life time, I'd say I exercised a great deal of restraint Thanks for the dread link,Bohun always does some awesome work.

Don't think it was Thousand Suns - they were red, white and blue I think. It was a pretty big army with a few tanks... As you come up the first set of stairs they were in the corner - before you go up to the exhibition and opposite the gaming hall entrance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't pre-heresy world eaters white and blue with some red? What chapter it is probably depends on whether it was intended to be pre-heresy or just heavily converted, anyway.

Ah yes they could have been pre-heresy! They were mainly red so in that case they could have been Thousand Sons. There were some great kitbash ideas, great posing, awesome looking army.

Thanks KGatch113. Yeah, when I started my guys I never really thought about doing weathering and battle damage on them. I keep them clean to keep the units consistent amongst themselves now. When I start my next army I will do chips and damage on units as well as armor.

So finally got back from my month long trip last week. Been busy trying to catch up at work so not much hobbying done yet. I did take a shot at assembling the Storm Eagle this past weekend and I ended up with more superglue on my hands than on the actual model. The thing is a huge pain to assemble - I've put it back in the box for now and am going to work on finishing off the super heavy tank I started earlier. I also did put in a pre-order for the Gamer's Edition of 6th Ed so might take a crack at the game once it comes out end of this week. Stay tuned for some hobby pics!

Those weren't the guys I was talking about – maybe they changed the display since I went there. Those are awesome though, excellent fluff-adherence with the armour mark etc. I have some pics of the army I saw (although taken through glass so pretty crap) – I'll upload and post them...

I'll see what I can do. No promises though, I don't mind having the book just for the artwork, fluff and as a collectible. If time allows I'll look into getting into the game before school starts again in Sept.

Yeah, those guys were one of the more impressive non 'eavy metal painted armies on display at Warhammer World. Rest of the trip was awesome! Got to go wine tasting in Tuscany and drive along south of France coast in a Mercedes. Best time of my life, oh yeah and I also go to visit Warhammer World as well

Quick update on the status of my super heavy:

Since I've been back, I've finished off the black detailing, applied a layer of gloss coat, applied decals, applied another layer of gloss and then layer of dullcote. Next is to do the metallics and weathering. Might try out the sponge technique on this one to speed things up.
