Yup, the bases are just torn up cork with basing sand in between.

Egg, would you say you use the Dark side or the Light side of the Force when you're painting? I ask because this is some super powerful painting!!

Seriously though it's awesome to see these army shots. I wish I could get the same red tone as you on my BAs!

"Whaaaaaaaaaaooooooo," I mouthed quietly several times, staring in admiration at those pictures of your army. Individually the reds and blacks are super smooth and beautiful. But seeing the whole army together really shows how the highlight colors you've chosen really add a lot of visual interest and "texture" the overall army's appearance preventing it from becoming just a sea of red. The blues and yellows obviously jump out, but it's also some more unique choices like painting the top section of the backpacks silver that really add to the visual punch of the force!

The realm of battle board is way too big for my current apartment at the moment. Have no room and since it's exposed, I'd have to dust it every once in a while. Maybe once I buy a house I'll look into one for my man cave.

Why buy when you can borrow?

Once you're done with school this spring and you have more time, let me know. It just so happens I have the battle board and loads of buildings. If you're interested, they could be made available for a photo shoot. Granted I still have to paint the board and the buildings but knowing that they could be used as a backdrop for your army would definitely inspire me to paint them fast and soon. Just saying.

As a hint of GW's forethought, the battle board comes with it's own carrying bag so they're easy to store when not in use, or when taking them out for a game/photoshoot...

By the time you finish this army you'll probably have moved to a bigger house – then you can get the battle board and have a huge glass cabinet built around it to protect from dust

Bet you can't wait. I'm actually in the process of doing that very thing. Selling my 1-bed flat and moving into a 3-bed place. Boy do I need the space...

Been working on a side project recently. Most of you will recognize these models as the ones made by Hits_the_spot from War Smith Miniatures. Unfortunately, these were a limited release, there's speculation that GW clamped down on them after they proved to be quite popular and received publicity on a few notable blogs and sites. Lucky for me, hits was kind enough to send me a few before the gag order was send so I've painted them up as BAs to add to my army! Also, if you haven't checked out War Smith Miniatures, you can see their stuff here: http://www.warsmithminiatures.co.uk/. Unfortunately, they don't sell these space crusader kits anymore but they do have a lot of other great stuff.

On to the models! I painted these guys a bit different than usual - I painted the parts separately as I had magnetized the arms and the heads are pinned so they can be swapped and rotated.

Wow! What a great little side project!

What a shame that these models are no longer available as the "Iron Man version 1" look totally works for pre-heresy Marines.

The red tones and the subtle metallic highlights are stellar as always.

Nice to have a bit more area to work with - really shows off your colour modulation nicely!

Hm... pretty neat. I had no idea there was any company making true-scale stuff. I guess it's not surprising gw shot them down.

Hmmmm I do feel the arms and shoulder pads are awefully out of scale. Lovely paint job as usual though.

As an aside, Chapterhouse are doing a true-scale kit at the minute.

Yeah its just such a shame its not his infinitely better second version thats on sale :(

Tbh hey don't really look like SM's to me... the heads all seem off put. But apart from that they look great!
