Touring France in a Merc, eh? Funny, I always wanted to tour the mid-west in a 70s Detroit muscle car

Here are some (rather blurry, taken through glass) pics of the army I was on about – also making use of a Baneblade...

Yeah, managed to get two WH decal sheets from a bunch of used models I bought awhile back. Never realized they're rare.
The south of France drive was amazing, best drive ever and I plan on going back again someday only I'd rent a convertible next time. Doing the US in a muscle car should also be fun. Your last post had the US flag, you there now?

Gitsplitta wrote:That super heavy is stunning egg.... really makes me want to tackle the Baneblade I've got lying around!

Thanks Gits! It's nice to come back to painting after the time off. The Baneblade should be a fun project, lots of weathering opportunities. I'm assuming you'll make it a looted BB for your orks?

Actually, I'd planned on following your lead and making at a match for my marines. Just on principal you understand.

Gits - I'm going to hold you to that. Waiting to see a yellow and green Baneblade in the future.

Finally finished off my Shadowsword/Stormlord. Lots of parts are magnetized so I can switch between the two variants easily. Couldn't get this huge thing in my light tent so you'll have to settle for pics from my desk:

That's a beautiful looking tank. Good looking enough to make me want to buy one, and then sacrifice countless hours assembling and converting and eventually painting that I'll certainly never actually use in a game.

That's a great, great tank, mate! Looks cool in BA colours and funnily enough I've had that same box tucked away since a few months as well... muhahaha! ^_^

Thanks 40kFSU. Yup, the BA gunner in the back helped make the tank a bit more "space marine-y" and fit in with the rest of the army. I'm sure he'd have tons of fun on those two guns.

Thanks again Gits! I'm still trying to work through my backlog of BA stuff, once that's done, it'll be onto my Orks...or make DE. I also have GK waiting and I just started buying up CSM. I have a problem...

Thanks VS. The kit is actually amazing being in all plastic and was a ton of fun putting together and magnetizing. I'm sure it's much better than the FW stuff and having to deal with resin warp and whatnot. I might actually buy a baneblade in the future if I can pick one up for cheap. Don't mind if these don't ever hit the gaming table as is with the rest of my BA, they look sweet though in the display cases.

Yellowbeard wrote:OMG, the Rivets! Fantastic, Eggroll. Just... wow. I love the gunner in back.

Thanks Yellowbeard! Heh, yeah this tank did go a little overboard with the rivets imo. Spent a long time picking them all out in black first and then with boltgun metal.

HAZZER wrote:ONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!!!! That is so cool man! A well worth the wait update!!!!!!!!!!! Btw can you post some WIP pics of it please?

Thanks HAZZER! I didn't take too many WIP pics. I have one a few pages back of the tank built and primed and then two more on page 38 of the tank shaded with AB and all the black details picked out by brush. After that, the decals, metallics, shading and small details went by pretty fast so I never bothered taking out the camera for pics.

Thanks Meph! Time to pull that box out and build/paint it up! Anything looks good in BA colors and iconography.

That's a magnificent piece, stylish as always - although part of me said, "What, no fully detailed interior? Standards are slipping Mr Eggroll" You really are going to have to learn to play with 6th, just to get these beauties onto the table - especially now that you can legitimately have that bad boy on the table.

Thanks, heh though if the shadowsword/stormlord kit did have an interior I would have painted it up. The inside is all air which is convenient for storing extra parts for the alternate configuration. Still on the fence about playing, I had preordered the Gamer's Ed of 6th and got it a day early. The book sits on my coffee table where I enjoy the model showcase and artwork every now and then. Maybe one day I'll flip to the rules section . When I started out on this BA army, I always had intended to have this as a display army that I would build up slowly with as many unique models from the range as possible. Unfortunately, since many of the models are metal and I haven't varnished them, they're going to remain as display pieces.

The next army I do I'm planning on using them for gaming and will be adding varnish into my painting process. Still yet to decide on what army to do though.

A new eggroll army?! I'm not sure if the dakkaverse can survive such pant-wetting glory. I'd like to see your take on Tau or Eldar, as they're due for a revamp and it is, I suspect, a good time to get into them.

Heh yeah, it might not be for awhile though as I plan on finishing off my BAs before starting a new army. Don't have Tau or Eldar in the plans though since I'm not a big fan of their models. I already have a big collection of Orks, Dark Eldar, and some GK in boxes. Will start on one of those once I'm done with the BAs.

Hey Eggroll,

Have just registered to post a comment!

Your work is awesome, I'm starting a blood angels army and I was wondering if you could tell me an updated recipe to obtain your shades of red ?

( Maybe you already posted something in the last 30 pages or so, but an update/link would be awesome )

Keep them coming!

Hey MrGando! Welcome to Dakka and thanks!

Here's my painting process currently:
1. I start by priming with Duplicolor Red Primer
2. Follow that up with airbrush of shadows using 50/50 mix of red/black (paint brand doesn't really matter)
3. Then I do airbrush highlights with blood red
4. Then I pick out details using hand brush or areas that will be painted with metallics with black
4a. For vehicles I varnish using Krylon Acrylic gloss varnish, apply decals, do another layer of gloss varnish and then dull cote varnish
5. Paint metalllic areas (boltgun, shinning gold, etc)
6. Shade metallics with airbrush (DR Black/Blue/Sepia Ink)
7. Pick out more details, do free hand, etc
8. Gloss coat gems, lights

That's it!

I think it would look better, and is made to be, in a position behind his body. As if it is the back swing or the figure is twisting to face the other direction.

Wow, just wow... I am truly amazed after going through 39 pages of absolute awesomeness (yes, that kept me awake for the better part of a night)!

All I can say is "kudos to you sir" (or maybe that should be "lord" since you are space marine to the core? ) and hope that you will continue to contribute with epicness and inspiration for us normal mortals to gawk upon for time immemorial!

You make thy Emperor proud in your rendering of his mightiest weapons!

Potentially yes though that means the other hand with the storm bolter has to be raised in a firing position and I have a few of those poses already. I didn't plan out the pose variations of terminators in this batch that well.

Cheers hemmis92! Glad to hear you've enjoyed reading through the blog. Don't know if I'm a SM to the core and that I will make the emperor proud though. I do have plans for a Dark Eldar, Ork and CSM army in the future.
