Hey MrGando! Welcome to Dakka and thanks!

Here's my painting process currently:
1. I start by priming with Duplicolor Red Primer
2. Follow that up with airbrush of shadows using 50/50 mix of red/black (paint brand doesn't really matter)
3. Then I do airbrush highlights with blood red
4. Then I pick out details using hand brush or areas that will be painted with metallics with black
4a. For vehicles I varnish using Krylon Acrylic gloss varnish, apply decals, do another layer of gloss varnish and then dull cote varnish
5. Paint metalllic areas (boltgun, shinning gold, etc)
6. Shade metallics with airbrush (DR Black/Blue/Sepia Ink)
7. Pick out more details, do free hand, etc
8. Gloss coat gems, lights

That's it!

Thanks for your reply!

So if I understand correctly, on your miniatures you highlight up to blood red. You don't seem to use a higher tone by adding Vomit Brown / Fiery Orange correct ?

Cheers!

Not a problem. Actually on some models I have done a bit of edge highlighting (blood red/dwarf flesh) but I've been inconsistent with it. It's mainly due to laziness than anything though if I was really bored, I'd go back and selectively edge highlight many of the character models.

Fantastic! it would be very interesting to see some closeups on how those highlights with Dwarf Flesh/ Blood Red work for your models, isn't the result too much on the pink side ?

Hmmm nope, not too pink though I don't do a harsh highlight. Just scanned my gallery and the best example I found is my Sargent model: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/392527-.html

Thanks Commander Cain. I've been busy recently and haven't had a lot of time to paint. I've got Astrorath on my painting desk at the moment...probably finish him off by the end of the week. I also have built a FW Storm Eagle and a Storm Raven. Those will need to get primed and AB soon. Also have a Baal Pred (which I actually built about 2 years ago) and a LR Crusader all primed and airbrushed waiting for hand painting. Lots of stuff coming soon...I promise!

I've seen you grabbing up a bunch of good stuff of non-Blood Angel variety on the swap shop, are you going to start a new plog, or just add to this one? Or are you just hoarding (like me )?

Heh, I've been hoarding since day 1. I plan on working on the BAs for maybe a few more months before moving onto another army and another Plog. I got Dark Eldar, Orks, Grey Knights and Chaos Space Marines in my collection and waiting for assembly and paint.

Will do! Been trying recently though RL has been getting in the way and bee starting a different hobby recently. Will still stick to 40k though so no worries there

LOL! It hasn't even shipped yet. Will have to wait to see how big it is when I get it...for sure the thing won't fit in my display case.

How can you write stroke and head in the same sentence and not expect NF09 to make more comments...sheesh Anyway...back on topic...I'll have to find a place to put the fortress IF I do assemble it anytime soon. I also want to get the sky sheild landing pad for my Storm Eagle once that's complete.

Mostly, on my phone.

Astorath's excellent, the blues contrast beautifully with the rest of the paint job.
On a separate note, how did you find the Storm Eagle to build. Mine was an absolutely nightmare, really badly cast.

Very cool work Egg. He really jumps off the screen doesn't he? The little lightening bits on the axe blade are fantastic!

I HATE the Storm Eagle. Worst model to assemble and I got superglue all over my hands. The parts are horribly cast and parts don't align properly. I still need to do a lot of gap filling. Had to shave down lots of edges in order to get some parts to sit right. The back ramp also does not fit on properly either...not sure how I'm going to fix that one yet. I started assembling that thing about a month ago and gave up halfway, assembled the storm raven in one night and then went back to the eagle. I would gladly put together 10 storm ravens than assemble another Storm Eagle.

Best Astorath EVER! simply put it's amazing, that axe and wings are spot on perfect and those teeny power bolts through the blade are awe inspiringly good!

And you are totally right, 'head' and 'stroke' in one sentence and I missed a golden opportunity lol, but i behaved and enjoyed my perverted genius all to myself! :-)

I contacted fw over my storm eagle disaster, they're sending me another. They're aware that's there's huge problems with the model. I completely understand being despondent about it though, I've not touched mine in a month (that's not an excuse for smut, nf09)...
