Well, as a treat, I also have some pictures of my pet Lictor for you to look at, I based the colors off the Leopard Shark species of "Dogfish" off the PNW coast. Due to what they have consumed, yu will note a metallic cast to the claws and spikes.

Reet, this may end up being a tad large a post tbh, but here goes...


As of late, I have been interested in True-scale/Art-scale/Embiggened Space marines... But in the wee small house of this morning, and not helping my insomnia one bit, I came upon the idea of making rules to reflect their embiggened status, and more in keeping with their fluff. what follows is my attempt at doing just that, opinions to follow if you please


To kick start all of this off, I went right back to the start... Rogue Trader. Within this hallowed tome, contains rules for awarding points to your miniatures, which seems to be the rod by which GW still awards points to models with to this very day. They are as follows.

"points for creatures are worked out from the profile. Points values are given to all creatures listed in the background section. The human profile as given below is considered to be average and has been given a base value of 5 points. The values of other creatures are worked out relative to this."

(for this example I have removed all stats irrelevant to the current GW gaming system)

Human: WS:3 BS:3 S:3 T:3 W:1 I:1 A:1 Ld:7

"To work out the cost of other creatures consider each characteristic in turn. For each unit of characteristic which is higher than the base level, add the modifier shown. For each unit of characteristic bleow the base level, subtract the modifier shown,"

WS:1/2 BS:1/4 S:1 T:1 W:4 I:1/4 A:4 Ld:1/4

As I said earlier, GW still seemingly work from this measuring stick. I haven't included the points costs for weapons and armour from Rogue Trader as I found out that if worked out to this template a single SM would cost almost exactly the same as one found in the SM: Codex. so without having to work out the base points cost of a standard SM, I have used the Codex pts cost listed, and modified as follows:

(Normal) Space Marine: WS:4 BS:4 S:4 T:4 W:1 I:4 A:1 Ld:8 Pts: 16/model.

True-scale Space Marine: WS:4 BS:4 S:4 T:4 W:2 I:4 A:2 Ld:8

But as this isn't enough to truly represent space marines in their fluff, they also gain Feel No Pain. (This is worked out using the Psionics chart in Rogue Trader, as there is an ability within it which is similar if not the same as FNP, I worked its points out as such and that is how I came to that total), If a model already has FNP, then it gains the ability to re-roll all failed FNP rolls. So If you have been keeping up, that gives us a points total of: 40pts/model (this has been modified a little as my original workings out led me to a points cost of 59pts/model. which was a little ott tbh).



So with those modifiers in mind here is how I would present to you a standard True-scale SM tactical squad:

Tactical Squad: 40pts each.

Unit Composition: 3-10 (N.B. I felt this more in keeping of the fluff, so as to incorporate units depleted through prolonged warfare)

Unit Type: Infantry.

Wargear:
-Power Armour.
-Boltgun.
-Bolt Pistol.
-Frag & Krak Grenades.

Special Rules:
-And They Shall Know No Fear.
-Combat Squads.
-Feel No Pain.

Options:
-If the unit numbers 5 models, it must include a Sergeant at +15pts. He has +1A, +1Ld.
-If the squad numbers 5 models, you may include one of the following: A Flamer: +5pts. A Meltagun: +10pts. A Plasma gun: +15pts.
-If the squad numbers 10 models, you may include one of the following: A heavy bolter, multi-melta or a missile launcher: +10pts. Plasma cannon: +15pts. Lascannon: +25pts.
-The space marine sergeant can replace his Boltgun and/or Bolt pistol with: A chainsword: free. A Storm Bolter: +5pts. A combi-melta -flamer -plasma: +15pts. A plasma pistol or power weapon +20pts. A power fist: +30pts.
-The space marine sergeant can also take: Melta-bombs +10pts. Teleport homer 15pts.

The observant person will note a price increase in options available to the unit. This is because I felt, that with the stat increase amongst the unit, and the rarity of most of the weapon options available to them, that the points should reflect this. I shall also create rules for Terminators, Assault Squad, Captains, Scout Squads etc. if interest is high enough to warrant it.

Looks awesome Shas, I do love the idea of organic metal as part of their diet too. hence why Giger/Ridley Scott did it originally. I don't like how everyone defines alien life by life as we know it on this planet. There are infinite possibilities out there in the cosmos!!!

As for the Marines,,,,,59pts a pop is pricey wit the way the weapons can kill them in this game. I would maybe go with a slighter price increase for the second wound and attack, maybe the base of say 30pts per Marine(Present Terminators are 40 points for just the terminatorsuit/stormbolter/powerfist combo.

And the Marines are rather small sized for the description, IG are the same height miniature at 28mm across all minis, instead they ought to be like 32mm to offset that size!

Well I'm trying to reflect their elite status, and cut down on the amount of models per army as a reflection. If I were to give them a base cost of 30pts/model, that to me would seem like it didnt include the points for Feel no pain either, so would then have to reflect that. as such the base cost then would be 40pts per model in my eyes.

Well these rules I'm presenting are for the true-scale miniatures only. and a standard marine in true-scale is on a 40mm base

Oh the weapons are at a decent price. I think if they had FNP added, you may not want to use old RT prices as then the Marines were actually priced at about 25pts base, then add the weapons. If the Unit got the FNP at about 33pts for the 5man team......Back then they also had T-10 Bloodthirsters

I've modified the points accordingly to modern GW standards really. but If you scroll up, I've amended the model cost. as 40pts/model for 2A 2W FNP space marines isnt bad imo.

40pts including FNP already is then right nice! especially with the 2's in the statline where they were once 1's.

NOw Termies would be worth a points increase if also trues scaled like that. GK Paladins are at 55pts for a 2wnd model.

I bought myself one of these badboys from ebay the other day for £7.50 to see what they were like. to, at a later date, sand down and give a fresh Sci-fi/40k-ish look to. for now, I'm just having fun shooting things lols

I think I'm planning Black and Yellow chevrons for the forward part of the barrel. haven't quite figured the rest out yet. it has a hell of a range for a toy as well, accurate too. plus the disks have quite a punch should you be hit by one. I'm looking at getting the Nerf Lumitron too, it has an 18 disk magazine and works like a semi-automatic as its battery operated.
