Thanks. In all fairness, Cam, the studio photo is really out of focus and heavily compressed. The side by side was more to show the android look rather than showing off.

I'm calling it finished.

That makes 4 painted this month. I really did not have that much time either. I really would like to be able to paint faster.

Thanks for stopping by.

Naga is looking beautiful!

Morat females are the only ones so far not showing, I mean they gave humanoid faces to Shavshastii females as well. None of the fluff for the Morats so far indicates that they must cover their faces at all times. I wonder if the sculptors are having a hard time trying to make a feminized Morat face? they are brutal looking males so far.

Stellar work on the naga sniper. The color scheme is nutty, and i really do like that. The netting is especially well done as is, to be blunt, her butt. AND the face, great job. The eyes can be left alone, i dont overly feel either way about it, with the magenta or not. my only tiny bit of cc, and i think i know why you have the poker chip bases, if it is indeed for the rules of the game, but i cant help but think they detract a bit from the over all model which is so nice then the base is so jarring that it just yanks me out of the trance of enjoying all the details on the actual mini. Either way, i do love what youve done with her, its a great paintjob and so damn tiny, your detailing is spot on!
Cheers Red

Thanks all. It was a fun mini to paint.

Bebop, you make a good point. it is indeed for the game. The bases need to show a 180 degree arc, and the model's facing. I thought the poker chip look was an artful solution, and it matched the markers I made for the game too. Me personally, I like minimalist bases. Too much stuff on the base makes me suspicious that the painter is trying to draw my attention away from the mini... I need the straight sides to the base so that I can pick it up. I cannot pick up the slant sided or rounded side bases at all. The way I plan on doing bases for my Malifaux minis is a more elegant look, IMHO.

I suppose I could give some though to changing the Infinity design a bit. I do like bright colors though...

...And yes, the butt. Infinity sculpts seem to have 'dat ass' quite often. Both male and female, BTW.

You're welcome to drop in anytime Grimdork.

Shas, You gotta start a Morat Girl with exposed face movement over at the official forums, only with a better title. It just might work. It did for the Wulver Girl. I for one support it. Maybe when the resculpt the Zerats. They have been having minis with the helmet masks up for a while now. Heck, next time I post over there, I'll try to remember to mention it.

No Doc, and a good thing too. The barrel is bent, and unstraightenable because of the position of the hand and hair.

I don't know Archer. It is frustrating to see so many people paint so well, and so much faster than I paint. I get the feeling there are things I still need to learn.

Ah, update. I remembered the Table of Shame. So, I painted one piece from it. That makes two pieces done for the year. Ugh.

Nothing at all spectacular, but it is done, and off the table.

Got my copy of Operation Red Veil Monday, and it had the Limited Edition mini. So, I did not loose out by waiting for a nice sale.

Of course that is 20 more minis to paint...

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Cleatus. The shame comes from starting a new project before finishing the previous one... repeatedly.

Going to try and paint all these this month

Quick color scheme test, and a different sort of painted base.

Thinking dark gray or black would be better for the base.

Thanks for stopping by.

Solid job on the hut.

Scheme shows promise.

As for bases. I had no problem with your previous style, but thoughts:
Colours are tricky if the models are going to vary in scheme. Not so much of a problem with a uniformed army as you can pick a colour to compliment the scheme.
The more colours in an army, model to model or unit to unit, the more difficult it is to find a colour for the base that matches them all.

I rationalise the break between a model, the piece of ground they take around with them, and the table, as the "selected" graphic that you see in computer games.

But all that is from someone that paints flames around his bases.

That is precisely one of the things I was intending with the poker chip style. Hence the division between the scenic portion of the base, the hex tiling, and the "selected" portion of the base the white+color rings. It makes finding the mini on the table easier and identifying which the faction to which is belongs.

But these Yu Jing minis are unlikely to see any play. So either I base them for display, or sale. An opportunity to experiment.

The toning on her trousers is stunning bud.

For the face, I think the only real odds will be a slight tint to the skin, the oriental skin is more coffee coloured than our pinky western stuff. That and the smaller facial features, but they are on the model already.

Thanks all. It's just basic blending on the pants. Y'all can do it too.

Busy week. That time of the year. Finished one of the Zhanshi for the painting pledge.

Colorful. I went all in on the secondary colors too, with the addition of the purple hair-- and the hair did not want to play nice. Not well sculpted hair at all. Decided to play with the porcelain complexion a bit. Interestingly, it works better when you add a dark red to it to darken it, rather than an umber. Face reminds me of some actress, but I cannot quite place it.

EDIT: replaced the photos with better ones, and touched up the hair. Still, it's meh hair.

Now to finish the male before the month's end. And the other female, but the male is part of the painting challenge so it gets priority.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas.

Thanks Graven. It's essentially the studio color scheme, only a bit brighter.

I replaced the photos in the previous post with better ones, and touched up the hair.

Ah, here's some fun

Vaguely reminiscent of an oil painting?

And of course, with oils, I could get really fine detail, because I wouldn't worry about the paint drying on the brush. At some point I may try painting faces with oils. Got to remember to get some of those odorless spirits/thinners at some point. It's the eyes. They need at least the white dot to indicate reflection. Hmmm, maybe some glazing compound to at least make them shine...

Beautiful work as always bud, really stunning, it's amazing to me how even at extreme close up your work is awesome, flawless.

Really quite like the colours and nice cheery model, get the point about the hair, but you have done a great job.

Oh and I am getting a slight Lauren Bacall vibe off the face.
