I've been playing WAY too much Steel Phalanx since the're all I had fully painted after selling my Nomads and stripping my PanO. Old cheme was too dark and was painted too quickly, new scheme is a lot lighter and a much less saturated blue, much happier with these guys now.
Plenty enough to play with for now, but i still have lots to do: 2 palbots and a doc to finish up, rebase my HVT in the O:I theme (they were based using Sedition Wars bases previously) and I need to assemble my Fusiliers SWC box, a couple Devas and Devabots and a Garuda so i can finally do Neoterra. Then I just need to finish the other 5 factions and all the terrain I own :(

They're an O:I poster glued to the top of a regular base, trimmed to match the bevel, then I airbrush in a shadow before pinning the model to the base and painting the edge black. I used to do it for my Star Wars repaints and quite like the effect, especially since I have the MAS mat

I apologize in advance for bombing this page with photos. You can see the rest here if you want: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/670686.page
Most recently, I have been working on a Moderator, this time with a slightly different set of techniques. He's still pretty early-on in the process, but I thought that it might be good to get some critique. Oddly enough, this might be my favorite miniature that I own right now. In a world of mechs, powered armor, alien invasions, bizarre body modifications, and virulent hacking, this is just such a normal guy. He's pretty scrawny, and even his slacks are too long for him, hence they're rolled up at the bottom. I guess that it could be a self-portrait of sorts, so I intend to use him as my Vortex in future games.
(the lighting did some weird stuff to the colors, but I've painted a red stripe in lieu of a white one to add some contrast to the model. What are your thoughts? Should I revert it back?

@youidiotkid: Is that a Koala on the Alguacil hacker's chest?
I just finished my Tomcats. My favourite unit in the game, based on concept alone. Aerial Deployment rescue team? I ended up picking Nomads purely because of that! These guys were an interesting learning exercise. Lots of black, some white sections, the LEDs on the helmets (a little different to the communicator LEDs). I think I am getting closer to having the red highlights right thanks to AndrewGPaul's suggestion. I need to lighten the mid-range grey on the black, and darken the highlight grey on the black, but that was definitely closer. I am not getting enough definition on the white. I started with Ghost Grey and worked to white, but I think I will darken that a little next time I do white. Still not getting those highlights on the guns right. Angel Giraldez makes it look soooo easy! I am confident had the right *idea* for the LEDs, but my hand kept slipping. More practice! Not so sure I needed those white highlights on the helmets, now that I look at the photo. I think they would have looked better without.

Yep. I use him as a Maasai Hunter in most games, so I did a quick freehand design on his armor.
Nice work on your Nomads. Great idea to use LEDs, especially on the Tomcats who would probably be using them.

I have just painted my first Mobile Brigada and my Zondcat. I had a problem with them where the wind picked up the box I had them in to prime and smashed them into the garden, breaking them appart at the joins. I found most of the pieces, but not one of the antenae for the Brigada. When I reglued, I used a spare PanO antena.
A few slips here and there, but I am mostly happy with how they ended up. I attempted to freehand the white lines present in the Brigada concept art. Not perfect, but for my first ever attempt at this kind of thing I am fairly happy with the result. Not sure white-white was the right colour to use, however; probably a very pale grey would look better.. When I get the Mobile Brigada box and paint those four I should be a little better. You cannot see it in the photo, but I tried to paint 'chipped' paint near the PanO antenna to create an impression of the helmet being damaged and the PanO antenna being a field repair. The area is so small you probably could not tell if I did not point it out. I attempted to create a metalic look on both of these models. I did not achieve it, but I think I had the right plan in mind and just need more experience to execute it properly. In hind-sight, I probably should not have added the white points of light onto the debris the Brigada is standing on, but otherwise I am fairly happy with the rusted/corroded look I managed to achieve there.

That is disgusting! No one should be allowed to be that good. The paint job is outstanding, but the colour selection is inspired. Not fair!

That's really awesome I like the dark+camo, I stuck a lot closer to the original scheme with mine out of simplicity. You've got a bunch of them, I assume some of them are older models, did you get some extra current grunts and repose them as well? I guess I'll post mine too while I'm at it Family Photo Here's a gecko I did and haven't shared yet, scale shot with devil dog team... I need to add some color variation to the tactical rock of the antipode, keep forgetting =/ Here's one that highlights my shoddy free-hand, but I'll still say that I'm better today than I was when I started the USARF so that's a good thing. And here's several more for good measure: I really liked working on the USARF army box, nice models that were easy and fun to paint.

Yeah, I got some extra grunts and a foxtrot from Shae. There's a few swaps - a dozer with a weapon from the starter foxtrot, a Kazakh doctor with a Grunt headswap, a grunt with an (old) foxtrot headswap (I tried to put a new weapon on the old body but it just looked silly) and an arm from the spec ops on the airborne ranger. There's also a Hasslefree pilot and foxtrot (the kneeling one with the hat) who has a grunt rifle. The dog is shamelessly stolen from someone's Haqqislam I saw on the official forums ages ago.
You have some really nice freehand on those figures - I cheated and used 15mm decals!
Your clear bases also look really good with the scenery there, that bridge is fantastic. I wish I was better at scenery :(

Hoodlum, if it's all painted, there's no such thing as "too much"!
Now do something with those bases! lol
Caylentor, I really like your color scheme with those USAds! That Hunzakut really fits in seamlessly too. Well done!
Grim, really liking the clear bases and your take on the studio scheme. Especially in all of that beautiful terrain!
Tristan, very nice cohesive looking force ya got there!

Serious question, as I only starting assembling/painting minis about a year ago. Are painting bases mandatory? Because I see all these minis with really nice bases and think, that's a good way to lose the rest of my hair o.o;

No, it is not mandatory.
But if you find joy in designing your own base theme do it.
In most of the cases it'll improve the look of your miniatures, except you put severed bloody body parts on your bases that is disgusting grimdark GW stuff!

Haha okay. As long as I don't have to build terrain on the bases, I should be able to manage it
While I am at it, I should also mark the front 180 degree arc on the base.

In ITS games this is mandatory, if you only play private games it is still really helpful for both players. Also it might prevent occassional table flipping by hot-blooded players
