Here's the article link - I thought I'd put it up on CMoN because they have lots of useful modeling articles already and it's a great resource.

Ok here's an update on the orks for all those of you who want to see

I've been out of action for the past few weeks but got some time to paint lately. So far I've completed the 18 tankbustas and bombsquigs and the 24 burna boys, and I've moved onto doing the bikes. I decided I didn't want to paint the old 2nd ed bikes so I'm offloading them and going to get more of the current ed bikes.

Here's a picture of the mass of painted models - this is the entirety of the footsloggers that have been speed painted. Everything from now on will be painted at a higher level of detail. You are looking at around about 200 odd orks of various different weapon fitouts here, so look carefully so you don't blow your mind!!!!

And here are a few pics of the orks in action:

Hope you like!

Wow...

I've just read this thread from end to end for the first time, I'm totally in awe... Your modelling and converting skills are absolutely brilliant as we all know, but to then go and paint like that, not just that well but across that many models!!! Absolutely amazing!!

I have hordes and hordes of rank and file Ork Boyz to paint, possibly even more than you've had to do... Lord knows what I'll ever do with them, I'm not sure if I've even got a table big enough to fit them all onto at once! Anyway, loads of them are built but not painted because I just couldn't face painting hundreds of Boyz, life is too short!!! But at the same time I hate seeing unpainted or primed only minis... Thankfully, help is at hand!!! Now I've seen your speed method and seen how much can be achieved with some serious perserverance, I'm feeling much more confident about getting the little buggers done!!! I really have no excuse now!!!

Keep up the cracking work buddy, must feel really good finally fielding squads of fully painted boyz eh?

P.S: How do you make the blimps and airships? Is that real balloons papered over or what? I really like the idea of mad Orky airships raining destruction across the battlefield, probably at friend and foe alike!! And they look like the perfect Orky type creation to go spectacularly wrong as well!

Glad you like it

The airship balloons are just a basic styrofoam core with other stuff glued on top. There's nothing too mystical about them...

I'm about to put the zeppelins on ebay, because I would rather rebuild than remodel...

Lemmingspawn wrote:The washes are a mixture of cheap paint and the current GW washes. I use very few GW paints, and tend more toward Vallejo. I just like them better, but I'm realising that the GW paints are actually a bit thicker than the Vallejo...

Anyways - the wash... It's a cheapass folk art paint called americana or whatever else I can get that I water down a fair bit. With these models I've been going crazy with a dip method where I mix up a batch of two colours, mid brown and black, in specimen jars and fill them right up with it. Then I dip each model into the pot after the base-coating. And that gets about 4 goes before I then go over the metals with GW washes. The GW washes are Devlan Mud (my fav), Gryphon Sepia and Ogryn Flesh. I experimented with the Thraka Green over one of the mekboys because his flesh went too dirty - it cleaned it up nicely but ended up a touch darker than I wanted. But that's ok, he's an ork of a different fungus...

Lemming, I am looking down the road at painting my 100 strong Ork Boy force.. and the sheer amount of infantry was overwhelming me.

The Dip Sloppy Juice method looks intriguing.. I have access to some cheap brown and black acrylic paint from the local craft store, and wonder about what proportion of paint to water you use. 1:1? 1 part paint to 4 part water?

base coat model with clothing and skin and weapons colors first, then the dip?

also.. you did a brown dip, then dry.. then a black dip and dry.. and repeated that 4 distinct times?

Since for my Ork Flesh, I was thinking DA Green drybrushed with Scorpion Geen .. would you recomment dipping before the Scorpion drybrush, or after?

any assistance you can provide would be golden..

There's a link at the top of this page of this thread, it takes you to a more detailed step by step on how to use this method. IIRC the wash mix is something like 40:1 water to paint? Remember, you aren't going for solid colour, all your going for is a very fine dark wash to darken the tones, dirty everything up and deepen the shadows.

Hey dude - good luck with the army The paint consistency is roughly 20:1 water to paint, but just play with it. Make sure you get a model you can test it with. As for your skin method, I'd do the drybrush before the dip, it makes the blends look smoother.

Ok, well I've had a few people ask me to link these when I sell them so I'm providing links to those who might be interested. The Zeppelins are currently up for sale. If anyone is interested, here are the ebay links.

Now, I have checked the boards rules, and if I break them on this forum by posting this, I'm sorry in advance. I've read the rules and pretty sure I haven't missed anything that says I can't post these links:

Ok, here's the latest news on the orks blog. I've finished painting up six of the new bikes. I have to say it again - the new bikes ROCK! I don't care what anyone says - GW are doing a SMASHINGLY AWESOME job of modelling lately! Just look at the box set for AoBR! WOW! 3 Piece ork warboss that looks AMAZING!

Yeah ok, anyone is gonna mistake me for a fanboi any minute!

Anyways, here are the current bikes painted - they were done using a combination of my speedpaint method and my detail method. They have taken a bit longer than normal to paint, but that's to be expected. I wanted them to look better so I spent more time:

Here they are with the mounted ork warboss who is standing in as Wazdakka at the moment

And some boy shots

And my latest baby that I am working on (this is gonna be a REAL Wazdakka!)

Soon I'll be onto some DEFFKOPTAS! Both new and old (my old).

I've never been a huge trik fan personally, but you've done a great job at adding that something extra that makes to fun and cool.

I really like the truck engine on the back end and the front end is probably the best extended fork I've seen put on the new ork bikes. Nice and 'worky' if that makes sense.

The klaw is a nice touch as well.

Looking forward to seeing some paint on him.

Rightio - just so you dont' think I've been slacking, here's a few pics of what I've been doing. I've got enough boys I think so I don't intend to assemble the Black Reach boyz anytime soon. But I do need more nobs, so I've assembled and based all of them, one of the warbosses and six deffkoptas. Here's some pics to give you an idea of the fun I had with them:

sort of a tech mariney feel and maybe that drug injector thing from The Fabius bile model.

I've been using the army throughout it's various stages of development. I have been using 5-7 deffkoptas and about 6 bikes with a stack of footslogging troops - and was stoked about the idea of taking wazzdakka and using the bikes as troops ... until I learned that the troop type for capturing objectives is restricted to infantry type troops ... major bummer dude ...

I'm in the process of painting up Wazdakka and 2 more bikes, as well as having purchased another 6 bikes. That'll be it for the bikes I think

The paint method should work for most things orkish. You just have to play around with the highlights.

Well, here are some updates. It's been a while, but I've been playing around with stuff.

I have one more bike to finish. It's going to be a bike with an ammo trailer and that should be done up tomorrow sometime. Maybe some painting started.

Here's the last bike - with trailer and alternative chain end attachment (broadside attack, anyone?). I can remove the trailer for use as an objective, and then probably just hook it up and ride off with it...illegally of course coz dats wot orkses do!
