I tried some a few years back, didnt enjoy it and I didnt think the models were quite as nice as the ones from 40k.

In da middle of da WAAAGH! Australia.

To be honest, it was the thing that got me into wargaming.
I loved the movies and the books, and when I first saw pictures of all the mini's made in the exact likeness of the film characters, I knew I wanted to have some.
I still regard the rules system as far more elegant than 40K (which I have several armies of), and I think it is GW's greatest game for portraying heroes as, well, heroes.
Hopefully I don't get any gak from any 40K fans for this...

Oh, and from a modelling point of view, I think the models do their job very well.

I like the models, I loved the movies and the magazines they did that had some basic hobby stuff and a frame or 2 of models is what got me into the hobby (although I was like 12 at the time and didn't understand how to put a proper army together >.&gt.
Looking back on the rule system I like it except for the part where you kill half the other guys orcs and even with 4 dwarves/elves/elite humans you can win simply because they all run away.
I actually have a ton of (horribly painted) LotR stuff in my garage and would love to get into it again but I doubt it would be easy to find someone to play against :(

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I play 40k tournaments at my local GW. Me and my best friend both run CSM. He decided to buy a Balrog to run as a SGD. We showed up at the team tournament with this thing fully painted/based/converted but the GW guys said it was a no-go due to copyright something or other. They encourage conversion and kitbashing with 40k and WHFB, but not LotR.
So New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson. They'll get my movie dollars, that's it.

Here are some nerd heresies this nerd will push:

1). The Lord of the Rings (read three times as a child) is ultimately boring and bloated (read a fourth time as an adult);

2). The Hobbit was a light-hearted read which, per my opinion via the trailer, looks like it's being translated into a super-serious movie;

3). The Lord of the Rings movies are boring and bloated.

LOTR boardgame: an excuse not to update codexes and army supplements. Raspberries all around.

its a waist of GWs money. they could be spending all the resources used for LoTR for getting new codex out for 40K and or WF and producing the 2nd wave of models faster so those who play armies with only half the models even out dont have to wait. They could even put those resources into other expansion games of 40K or WF that need updates or make new and better ones.

I play LOTR with my family because my dad likes the movies and so do my brothers, as of 40k and fantasy, we can't agree.

Staying on target.....

It's my favourite game!

It is the best of the 'BIG 3' being a lot easier to collect than the others, the combat is more realistic with battle lines merging and going to and fro and some of the mini's are the best around. Really surprised it doesn't do a lot better, it sure does deserve it!

To those that tried it earlier and dismissed it because of the pace, it's a lot faster these days, had a game that lasted 4 turns once instead of 10 or so.

Oh and the siege's are beast. Period.

Vaguely interested, but the SBG has a very unwieldy ruleset and GW are running it into the ground.

I love it, have some armies of Rohan and Isengard, while my lil bro went for Gondor. We found it to be really fun and just love the models for it.

What i hate about it now though, and what has kept me from getting more models, is the box change and price rise on them. It just isn't right..

I would also like to thank all those crazy gamers with too much money to spend that buy hundreds of the same marine models, paint them different colours and pretend they are different armies. You are the heroes upon whose backs the future of GW sales is assured.

I like it, have a lot of LOTR figures, but no one to play with.

Started my wargaming career with LOTR, at a 40k club, but was only one person interested in playing LOTR so I soon moved over to 40k and since then have only played 3 or 4 games of LOTR.
