It looks fun and interesting, and I love LoTR... but no time for another game system, especially one that's not all that popular.

I don't know.

On one hand, I loved Lord of the Rings and I like the models, but the selling point for me is just how fast one player can get into the game. I'd need like 1-2 boxes of troops, some blisters, etc.

However, no one really well truly plays this game at my FLGS, and perhaps I might get some people into the game, but until then, I really want to work on my other armies, knowing at least that I can get a game in.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

LOTR got me started in wargaming and I still enjoy the odd game or two. On a small skirmish scale it is great but larger games tend to get a bit fiddly with moving all troops around separately due to a lack of units.

That is why there is now war of the ring. on a average game of 1000 points Ill have about 96 goblins on the table and some trolls. The game plays really well and is much more balanced say compared to WFB.

Got me into GW stuff. I never played the game, but I still buy lots of the minis to paint & sell. I prefer 40k by far, though.

Other - I owned the game when it first came out, collected it, well bits and pieces for a few years, had the monthly magazine that came with the odd rare fig, rarely played it due to my wife not liking the setting.

Then when I moved up here in 2004, (packing it up and then unpacking it) I noted I had a fair bit collecting dust, by mid 05 I realised that I hadn't played it in two years, so made the call and sold everything.

Its a nice game, really nice ruleset, but at the moment I have nothing for it.

Although give it another year, maybe two, I will consider picking it up again as my boys get older.

Not interested, minis are nice and all,but it's just not my thing.
Also feel the time and resources spent by GW on LOTR could be better spent on 40K/Warhammer...but that's just my opinion.

Not interested because of its source material.

Lord of the rings bores me to sleep.

It could have the most fantastic models in the universe, and the best ruleset EVAH! but as long as it involves hobbits and sauron, it's just not going to appeal to me.

There's three reasons why I don't like LOtR SBG.
1: I find the combat system horrible. Fight values makes pathetic little impact(at least they didn't the few times I played) and I find the whole concept of only one guy attacking bad.
2: It takes an eternity and a half to actually kill something.
3: The models look OK, but it's so few different poses. Especially when it comes to infantry.

I haven't played WOtR, so I can't really judge that, but I'll probably never try.

really, it takes ages. 300pt games last about 4-5 hours. Every combat is done 1v_ individually, and every model needs a 6 to wound, and if not, they go back an inch. wheee.

Lord of the rings was the first miniature game i ever played, to be honest it was a great game i liked how cheap it was the only thing that it lacks is army building as like not much different equipment to get, the models would sell better if they were customizable in stead of just making an arm go down or up. But over all id play it again if other people would to.

Its a fun fast pace game and i like the combat when you fight in close to see who wins the battle, to me its more realistic instead of just going by Initiative, i mean what fighter charges and lets the other guy attack first.

I started out with LOTR,it was fun and simple.

Although after a while all those added rule books came out and it lost the appeal. So I moved up to 40k.

LOTR is fun for beginners.

I like the models, and use the Orcs and warriors of Harad in my D&D sessions. The Harad make great highwaymen and Thieves' Guildsmen. The orcs make good "darker fantasy" orcs than the GW type. Never had any interest in the wargame rules though.

When I was 10 or 11, some friends and I ''played'' it. AKA we would paint and set up terrain and then, just like toy soldiers, moved them around.
Not like a game, more like "This soldier attacks him, but he dodges and stabs him".
We all wanted the good guys to win (Gondor!) and thus had maybe 20 Rohan warriors fighting against 5 Orks.
Eventually we all quitted, due a variaty of reasons, too expensive, stupid shop owner and the miniatures broke too easily.
I still have the miniatures, although most of them are broken/bended.

When I was 14, I picked up a box of Cadians.
I ain't sure if this counts as ''getting started because of LotR".

Still, why would people refuse to play a game because ''it's too mainstream''?
I would love it if 40k was regarded as somethign normal and not as a "creepy old guy or hyper little kids"hobby

I completely agree. I actually dread turning the page in my new WD to discover more LotR BS. The game is dead. There are no new minis. They can't just make up mini's that don't exists in middle earth. It really needs to just go away. If they want to revive it in some way when The Hobbit comes out, fine. Maybe we'll get some cool dwarf minis. Honestly, the minis, with the exception of the Balrog and the Flying Nazgul, are just uninspired. The game appears to be drawn out and boring, though I never had an interest in it, so I have not played it, nor would I. I understand that it probably got a lot of people interested in table top gaming and more so GW, but how could you go to the store to buy LotR stuff and pass up WFB stuff which is way, way cooler? Not to mention, that you just passed on the box that has 10 power armored spacemen with huge guns...
Ditching LotR, or at least this focus on it, and concentrating more emphasis to Specialist games, would be a godsend from GW.

There.

There's my rant.
