Other. I'd really like to give it a go, but nobody else in my area cares.

I like the miniatures a lot- especially the more realistic scale and the weta designs which I think are a lot better than the Skulltastic GW efforts. (Actually, anything that GW has added to the game has tended to be Skull-o-rific and awful). Stuff like the plastic troll kit has a lot of potential for conversion, too.
I really like the skirmish game for heroic fantasy skirmish. I've had some really fun battles. Unfortunately, in my locality, only one other guy played so it got a bit samey being either Moria vs. Isengard, Mordor vs. Isengard or Fellowship vs. Isengard.
WOTR is also lots of fun, but the sheer number of miniatures needed is a bit off putting, and I couldn't get a decent group to play with, either. I do like it a lot though. I think it is a good system for a more generic fantasy game. And the armies look amazing on the field. (I've painted something like 150 various Orcs, Goblins and Gribblies, and I'm not bored yet. And the big centrepiece models like the balrog and Witch King on Fellbeast are bloody amazing, and finally, I absolutely love the troll figures they have, as well as the warg riders. Hell, talking about it is making me want to go pick up a box of wargs and some trolls!)

Mouse wrote:I will never play this game because of the ghastly ent figures. Those are the worst models in the history of table top wargaming.

With that being stated, I read the books once a year for the past 20 years, and I love the movies.

Because of one set of figures seems an odd reason to dislike an entire game!
The Ents are better than the WE Treemen
LoTR models are some of the best sculpts GW produce imho!
The dwarves are far superior to the WHFB humpty dumptys

Indeed. I also much prefer the weta look for Orcs, Trolls, and so on. The weakest sculpts by far are the additions from GW- giant bats, giant spiders, Uruk Hai, Mordor and Goblin Shamans are all weak and clash with the gritty look of the rest of the models something fierce. The shamans all have stupid skulls on them, which really annoys me. Same with some of the Morannon Orc captains- stupid giant topknots.
But the plastic sets are really really great to work with and paint. And I found them easy to convert too!

i voted other as im not interested but i like the models (balrog). i just find the rules are broken/ i poke holes in them and think they need a look over. that is the non War of the ring

The miniatures are fantastic. I own a ton of them and use them for other game systems. I don't use them for the lotr system.

ive played the game a few times, its pretty fun and think the models are fairly decent, but its just not popular and its too hard to find a game unless you wanna play the guy who works at GW and plays with the house army. i also like the move/move-shoot/shoot-assault/assualt. its how 40k and fantasy should be played. seems more real

Strike from the shadows and leave no one alive... well maybe a few.

I would find the models/armies really boring to collect and paint. They're all just so plain and samey.

Its hard not to like the story, it's the foundation to most modern day fantasy in one way or the other after all. But I've never been attracted by licence games, or games that's based on real life events for that matter, the world and history etc. will inevitably be too fixed and predestined.

I have a few minis here and there but there is just not enough people in my area who play it (no one lol). Most of the minis are just horrid *cough* Ents *cough*. I think GW should've dropped it a long time ago and focused on better games like Mordheim and Necromunda.

I started wargaming with the magazine they brought out a few years back, iv stopped LOTR now but i still have some old minis and i think its a great way for younger kids to ease into wargaming as they will probably be already aware of the background and this will help them understand why some guys work the way they do and why the others work differently

You know I actually play the free Lord of the Rings Online game (which is pretty awesome) and I actually wouldn't mind picking up riders of Rohan just for something to paint. I never expect to wargame with the figures, they would just look nice in my Glass Cabinet.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

Not a fan of the models, I don't think they're badly done, I just don't look at them and get that wow factor, and that's what it's all about for me.

Plus I got my arse handed to me years ago in a trial game by a horde of goblins (I was young, think it must have scarred me...)

I don't really like it. The models were always a bit meh to be, and I find the scale to be awkward.

And the rules...ugh.
