I use Rustoleum "Painters Touch" Primer. It is about $2 or $3 at places like Bi-Mart local to me. Really good stuff, great price.

To keep consitency in hues (krylon black has a bit of a different look than Chaos Black), I just cut GW or Vallejo paints with windex and airbrush them on.

With pewter minis, I give two thin coats of varnish to keep paint from coming off of corners before I basecoat.

For just about everything I use GW black spray, but when I painted my Manticore I wanted the missile array to really stand out so I primed that with white Halfords Plastic Primer. It went on pretty well and if I remember right it was cheaper than GW spray. I might be starting an Ork army soon, so who knows, the white spray might be getting more use.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

Hooray for 2% Testors. It has the same texture as GW, but it's much cheaper.

Other: Model Master's spray.

While on topic, can anyone recommend a quality white spray? The stuff I use works fine in black but for some reason the white never sticks to the model.

I use to use Citadel spray paint chaos black but at NZ$25 (US$22) (GBP13.50) It was getting way too expensive to keep doing so. I went out an got a airbrush and compressor and I now use vallego air black. The airbrush should pay for itself by the time I am done with my army.

Model Master enamel (owned by testers).

I play IG and blend modern military and 40k camo schemes, MM being a good source of modern/WWII military colors.

I spray the bulk color onto the figures to save time/reduce work.

I used to use GW spray for the longest time. But now I have moved on to cheaper products because the GW spray is like $15 a can. I usually just use Home Depot Flat Black Primer. It's like $2.00 a can. Takes a little longer to dry but the paint sticks fine. I then just go over the unprimed areas with chaos black paint and a brush. Works fine and doesn't chip if I use purity seal.

I usually use chaos black primer from GW. I tried the army painter 'army green' today. I have to do some speed painting on my Catachans.

I think the 96 cent Walmart spray paint should've been an option. I used that for the longest time until I learned better.

Wal Mart's 95 cent primer. Cheap, covers well, and doesn't distort any of the model's details

I've always stuck with Testors flat black spray. May be a bit more expensive per can, but it sticks well to plastic, and makes for excellent base for my necrons.

Yeahhhh... I am not the average. I use Army painter since it comes in shades that match my base coat color which saves me a lot of time. Also., the cost is about the same and i have had problems with cans of GW spray fuzzing and clogging. not good.

I use the Privateer Press P3 spray in black, reccommended by my FLGS folks. A little cheaper than GW and the spray comes out in a fan instead of a cone for precision work.

I used to hand prime back when I was first getting into the hobby but that was before I had the money to actually buy a lot of stuff at any given time. Once I could start buying up larger amounts of models at a given time I had to start spray priming because hand priming just took forever.

I just started using brush on paint after getting sick of dealing with issues that popped up time and again with spraying, leading me to have to strip everything, reglue it together, and basically start from scratch minus the mold lines.
