I've got to agree with the crowd (?) here - the cannon on top might look a lot better if it were significantly shorter.

Agreeing with jabba, paint the inside of the D-cannon black too.

Some constructive critisism: Kyoto, why your modeling looks really cool most of the time, your painting skills seem to be sub-par. That's okay, so does mine. But I found a way to cover up this issue: the new washes!
Try out some of them, maybe badab black for the fortress and blue what's-it-called for the windows. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'll have some more Leviathan pics soon, with luck it will be used Sunday for the 'nid apoc game.

In the meantime I've done some more armor to go with it.

Hulls are LR Demolishers, turrets from a Soviet armored car then guns made of tubing and Pegasus chemical plant kits. Stoage is from various model kits and IG accessory spures. The Warstore's Battlewagon bitz is selling Demolisher hulls and turrets (no guns) for $25.

Since these are vanilla russes I wanted them to look a bit more low tech next to the demolisher and plasma russ.

Anyone need 2 demolisher turrets, no guns?

Nice too see some Russes with reasonable sized battle cannons!

Hi dude, just found your model randomly and wanted to give you a big thumbs up!

Awesome stuff. I was also nicely surprised to see a link to my own thread by someone. *blushes* I think the most useful part of my thread wasn't my model though, it was the first post with links to three other Leviathan threads! Now, after reading your stuff, I have six links in there, including this one. Who knows, at one point we'll have to get together a core list of all the Leviathans and insane people out there!!

Anyway, enjoyed reading this one enough to sign up to Dakka just to tell you.

Glad you found it, you're from the WIP forums? I was going to post a link back here but couldn't remember my password.

And the stuff there is so good I feel ashamed putting in my kit bashes.

Anyway off to take Fortress Maximus (actually Fortress Minimus since I had to trim it to a 1000 points) for a spin!

Because we’re here,lad...

The whole model has come on a treat. Nice work. You defiantly need to drybrush that monstrousity with a 3" brush. And a litre of badab will go down a treat!

I love those little moments between the first kiss and the pepper spray...

A thought: try tamiya smoke on the windows of the leviathan. It'll add depth and shade plus gloss at the same time. Smells foul, mind you.

I'm suprised by the size of the Leviathans in the community. When comparing Epic models the Leviathan's footprint isn't much larger than a Baneblade. But perhaps the plastic/resin Baneblade is slightly undersized.

Is there a size chart available that compares these as was done with the Stompas?

Lick butt on the levathian!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

KK, after I finished the model, I bought some wood and we built a case for it. Even though the model breaks down into 8 or so separate sections, the case was large enough to only just fit in the car, when the seats were down!

On the topic of size, I agree that the remakes are much bigger than their epic counterparts. I was very deliberate in my design to state that I wasn't making the old one, I was reimagining and updating the premise as a whole.

For the most accurate and to scale leviathan I've encountered, I recommend you review Colonel Gravis' model. It's pretty much spot on, in my opinion.

Hey KK, if you are still looking for a home for those turrets I wouldn't mind getting my hands on them. I can offer cash, bitz or some hands on painting help. I don't mean to imply that you can't paint, but rather to explicitly say your painting of your own models dishonors them.

Well after 1 year I've still not used the thing in a game or finished painting it. Funny how enthusiasm can just fade one day.

I brought it last week to Dakka Con but the Apoc game was canceled.

But tomorrow there's an Apoc game nearby so I figured that was my big chance.

Here's the thing, I left it in my car in sub-freezing weather with a bottle of glue on top to remind me to fix it.

And then I brought it back inside.

Today when I looked at it...

Yes.

The glue had exploded and turned the top into grey sludge.

I thought I could scrape it off but it's melted right through the roof plates. It's still soft and warm too.

I think I'll try and green stuff it into a crater.

Ouch, sorry to see such a nice model damaged! Have you consider add a small elevator or control tower or something on top instad of the crater? Because if you start adding battle damage, a single crater won't do IMO

So a couple of years back I made my first VDR superheavy, a plague tower of Nurgle. It was embarrassingly bad so I won't show it here.

The first time I took it out a Falcon pulled up, some Fire Dragons walked out and blew it to hell on turn 1.

Well this time...

I put it out, aimed it at a pack of 3 baneblades and get ready to go.

My DOOMSDAY cannon shot unfortunately scattered off the table (or part of the template did and I was told that means the whole template missed), doing no damage. The Vanquisher cannon was a clean miss. So all I got was a few las cannon hits on some Broadsides which were all taken by sheild drones.

Then on the bottom of turn 1...

2 Tau Tigersharks...

and a Tyranid bio titan thingy managed to blast off it's void shields and get it down to 1 structure point.

And then...

20 Wraith Guard and 3 Wraithlords flank marched, popped up behind it and killed the thing.

Sigh...

I hate Apoc. I really do.

But then again my infantry were allowed to recycle so they can in behind the cheesy Eldar Cheese Guard and gave them 10 rapid firing plasma guns. So that did make me feel a little better.

Ow... damn. I guess on the plus side you got to shoot it, though how did baneblades get shield drones?

Oh, and I think the blast markers only count as scattering off the table if the center hole is off, but I don't know for certain.
