The emblems don't even have to look clean. They're angry, remember? They'll paint their emblems however the fk they damn well want!

Having a clean, uniformed looking, angry face is just not angry enough. You've got to have shoulderpads with bared teeth, popped middle-fingers, and an indent from something's face being smashed into it

If anyone hasn't mentioned this before... you should paint orks like that. Now that would look amazing. But I think you made some great models.

Feth that. Orks are too unpissed to be angry marines. Orks actually still have a language beyond cursing. Therefore, not angry enough.

EDIT: You SHOULD, however, paint up a Marine to look like the Hulk in the remains of his Power Armour. The Hulk would certainly fit, as he's so angry he can't kill and talk at the same time

I'm not a fan of the mindless troll community that is 4chan, so that biases me quite a bit against this. Likewise I'm not too keen on whole armies built around what is essentially a joke. Thus I have the same views on the "Hello Kitty" armies and the like. It just seems to be a waste of good miniatures and I would never do it.

But to each his own I suppose.

That all being said, kudos on the dedication to the project and the work you've put into it. At least you are painting your figures, which is more than I can say about far too many 40k players I've come into contact with over the years.

Not to sound like a jerk, but what's the point of saying this? If you don't like the source material, there's not much point in commenting on something that isn't in your sense of humor. I mean, I don't like Ultramarine blogs all that much, but I don't go into them just to comment about how I find them boring. It just seems like this is a completely unnecessary post. Besides, it's not your stuff he's using for his army, and no one -is- asking you do do it, so I can't see why it would bother you as much as you say.

I have actually been called out before on wasting Space Marines on a joke army, and I understand what you are getting at. To be honest I myself haven't been all that keen to the 4chan community, but I simply think that the Angry Marines are a funny army and they have just been really fun to paint and model. Also I have discovered that the /tg/ board is actually not that bad, you should just avoid /b/! Isn't it half the point to enjoy making your army as much as you enjoy playing with it?

also we don't need just positive comments. In fact, I love criticism just as much as praise, since criticism tells me what I need to work on to improve what I got, and praise is telling me what works!

like I said earlier, I am holding off on current conversions until the new codex comes out, which may give me ideas to add conversions that can have a "count-as" rule applied to it, like how a duel-wielding marine with a middle finger banner in the space wolves rules counted as the Mark of the Wolfen. In the meantime I'll keep plugging away at my painting.

oh, and as a critique for Mr. Pendulum, your colors do look very thick, and your yellow looks muddier then what mine looks like in the lighting I photographed in. I suggest going back and fixing these up. I suggest using a color like Iyanden Darksun as the base, and drybrush a bright yellow over that. and for the red I used Mechrite red with a drybrush of a bright red over that. And I agree thinning your paints helps ALOT. And finally, I think you need to redo their emblems. it takes a bit of time and practice to paint the emblem, but they just don't have the angry marine feel without this emblem:

Thanks, I agree whole heartedly. Unfortunately most of my troop were painted 3 or 4 years ago when I was still learning, so their paint job is nowhere near the quality of my more recent paint jobs. Iyandsen darksun is my colour of choice alright. I paint it down straight over a black primer. Then I go back and paint in the soft armour in black. Blood red for the eyes, skull white mixed with codex grey for the mouth grill. For the shoulder pads, I paint the main surface iyandsen darksun, then paint blood red straight over the top. Moves the colour slightly towards orange, but it remains vibrant. Normally I finish this off with a yellow ink, though lately I have been loving the Badab Black and Bestial Brown washes. 2 parts yellow ink to 1 part badab black to 2 parts water = godlike!

If you don't mind me making one tiny little critique...

In the earliest images of Angry Marines, their left knee pad is painted red. Unfortunately most of these images are now lost (and one of the pictures on 1d4chan incorrectly has it's right knee pad painted red). See the Dreadnought Close Combat Wielding marine in this picture for what I mean:

yeah it would be nice if you moved to another thread. I don't mind you posting a sample group shot of what you got though! And since your army is a few years old, I'd also like to see you try repainting some of your angry marines. you can soak your models in some of this stuff for 40+ minutes, or overnight if need be, then scrub the paint off with an old toothbrush you don't plan on using ever again. I'd like to see you try repainting at least a couple models, but still, you can do all this in your own thread.

Well firstoff, I don't like the way the white-grey looks. A drybrush of boltgun metal over black looks more like a space marine faceplate. And I admit the ink washes are nice, I am using that on my in-progress Angry Marines battlefleet gothic ships (coming soon!), but it makes it too dark and muddy without a bright yellow to drybrush over that. Angry Marine armor is a BRIGHT yellow, and don't forget that!

hmmm, perhaps if I make a veterans squad I will incorporate this into their paint scheme....
I actually like this current scheme I am using, and alot of the artwork I have seen are done in this fashion. but I will have to add that bit of red to some veterans later. Thanks for the idea!
