These days, not so much.
Hey, I still crack down on this. Then again, I'm a jerk.
I'd do it, but my version would involve a giant picture of a keyboard with the shift key circled in red. All along the border it would read, "You press button, make not suck" in big sparkle text. I have a feeling that would get me banned eventually.

IIRC I was lurking on Portent and someone was making comments about how harsh Dakkaites were, so I thought I should lurk here and see.
Found the conversations a hell of a lot better, and I certainly learned a lot more.

Dakka isn't really that harsh is it? Or do people have really thin skins?

Dakka covers all of my gaming needs and/or bases.
This site helps to keep me inspired to play and the painting/modeling section keeps me inspired in that section as well.

My experience with dakka goes way back... I had a account on old dakka and the tone was diferent from what now dakka morphed into...
The old dakka was ok apart from some glitchs like forum sluggish speeds the tone was alot more rude then also, no problems there yet I had some small issues with administration and the forum refreshing ridiculous slow timmings made me close and erase my account.
Years later Migsula pm'd at warseer and i give it a shoot to dakka under new administration and software...wow and wow big diference... also the rudeness is a lot less present.
The content diversity boomed and this has become a HOBBY forum and not only 40k, people are more adult now, mods more sharper and funny, administration better, forums speeds and tech is superb.
In short a good forum in the past became SO MUCH BETTER in the present and I'm glad I'm here again.

I have failed to follow through on many hobbies / skills I wanted to be good at (staring at my fender strat in the back of my room.) Painting miniatures is a satisfying experience to the point where one holds their breath as others examine your work. Or in my case I ran into this:
"Beautiful Big mek frenzy, damn shame you did a good job because I have to break the bastard. 5+ cover save my ass *fakes a toss*"
Community and tutorials are unmatched on the internet. Now if I can get someone to walk me through the damn "putting on decal" process.
-Cheers

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." ~ HK-47 |

Yes we are, the diference is that you are looking at a tree and got stuck with it and I'm looking at the forest.
You have been here for what? some months? Thats hardly my prespective.

I came for the rumours, stayed for the wit. Sure there are the annoying pricks and the herd instinct regarding some matters, but it is still an enjoyable place to post and lurk.

Why woudn't I be I think is the hard question, fairly adult audience, the gallery, P&M blogs are an inspiration, good humour, friendly mods and what I feel to be a tightly nit fourm, I think the people we getto know on here we become good friends with even if we'll never meet them.

Another thing I love about Dakka is everything is mixed together. By that I mean yes you have your 40K, your Fantasy section, but here in Dakka general, everything is mixed together. While I was on Warseer, I was just in 40K and LotR. I didn't bother with any of the other games.
Now I know of other games wich I never knew about before. So who knows, maybe I will be starting a new game system. I like when I read about rumours, I read about everything not just one thing, wich I would normally have passed over and then know nothing about. I love all the light heartedness in here and everyone having fun.
