Technically, the site is the best discussion board I've found. I like that there's usually something interesting on the front page.
I also like the atmosphere and chatter here a lot.

There are many reasons I come to this site.
1.) It is allowed at work. By which I mean the firewall does not block it.
2.) The way that grown men argue about toy soldiers in YMTC is beyond priceless and is a gem to behold
3.) Many of the articles in Dakka are very very entertaining even if I don’t agree with them. To every one who writes articles, tacticas and so forth, I LOVE walls of text, please entertain me!
4.) Some of the art work on here is amazing.
5.) Most people on here ascribe to one way of thinking and will not be swayed and are not polite about it, but that’s real life and people should get used to it. Civility is a privilege not a right.

Good layout without having 3 year old threads of 2000 pages of outdated tactics. Plus Stelek was entertaining.
Now I'm usually on to read tactics and battle reports from players like Shep, Blackmoor, and others.

Why do I stay here?
Well, the spell check wouldn't obliterate 80% of everything said by people here, which is far more than I could say on a lot of other sites. For someone who likes to read a lot more than post, that means a lot.
The Gallery is far superior to anything I've seen anywhere else.
The Articles section is very well designed. The font and colour don't hurt my eyes. It's active enough, and well moderated enough, that I don't have to worry too much about clicking on a thread.

The number one reason I came to DakkaDakka is because I am interested in WH40K and there seems to be a pretty good crowd of 40K players on this site.
I have missed out on a lot over the past few years and thought that this would give me an opportunity to catch up on what is what in the dark millennium.
I try to limit the number of site I join and chose this one as one of the candidates. Besides, keeping up with to many sites might freeze my old brain, making me dumber than an ork turd... which is only slightly smarter than an ork.

I'm just curious as to why? What makes dakka better for you than other sites? Why do you come here? What are some of the positives that make dakka a worthwhile worthwhile online asset to you? What makes it different from other sites and forums?
Dakka is the least terrible of the GW related sites.
Note that does not mean that the site is NOT terrible. It's not even very good. In fact, it's really just a further parody of everything that is wrong with the "hobby".
Howling masses, internet toughguys that think they're special because the absentee site owner gave them special privileges, all that.
It's really just something for me to have a laugh at when I don't feel like logging in to WoW or work on models and something to share a laugh with the boys at the local GW store.
Anyway, while Dakka does lean toward the slightly cynical/sarcastic/negative/realistic side of things, I think that overall, it is the best place to come for good discussion on various hobby related topics.
Plus, the Painting and Modeling sections have come a long way (thank you Gallery!) and are fast becoming the 'first stop' on my daily visits.
Overall, its a good 'community'. Or, as good as you'll find online.

Because Warsser confuses me with its crazy interface and I never went to Bolter and Chainsword or BoLS.
I think I found this when searching for Space Marine army lists (strange that Bolter and chainsowrd didn't come up first )
I trolled for a while, then joined and got involved with that 30+ page religious forum in the off topic section (LONG LIVE THE TURTLE PIE) and that had me hooked. I never left since. Oh, and we have GWAR.

I generally come here to find an answer to a question in a recent game. The eight page threads, flaming, attitude, and general discourtesy seems to make it slightly more interesting then a straight answer

not really. which is what makes it so funny. "This is Dakka! We're a nice forum where everyone gets along!" *insert flame war with a certain moderator and 2 or more of the usual suspects in the middle of it here*
And yes, I could put a funny picture in too, but I'm pretty sure that would lead to someone getting a case of the butthurt and me getting banned.

1/ It is work friendly, and the ability to change themes stops people from questioning what I am looking at.
2/ The mods are firm but fair, they don't go overkill on official warnings and treat you like an adult rather than a misbehaving child.
3/ It makes me laugh. Most of the discusson on here is both mature and humorous. The topics are varied and whilst things can get heated it is rare that anyone gets serious grief for airing their veiws.
4/ The site is realy easy to use and welcoming. Coments in the P&M section are always constuctive and suportive
5/ There is very litle pedantry an display. The major turn off for most people with forums is being made to feel stupid because of A, a litle spelling mistake, or B for not knowing as much as the next person.

Sort of hard these days, since lots of kids can't spell these days because of the internet slang. I do hope it gets better though.

I joined up on Dakka about nine years ago when I had one local player that I knew; I just wanted to discuss the hobby. Just grew to like Dakka and put down roots.

I've never been banned from a 40k related site, though I'm in self imposed Exile from 40kO and scan a few other sites on occasion.
The main thing I like about Dakka is it seems like it's got a lot of people that are gamers first and message board posters second. It keeps egos and hurt feelings under control.

yes it would be work friendly.... if i had a job where i sat at a computer again....
I switched over mainly for the gallery/painting community. I was on some other website(s) and they were over populated with studio artists who would literally rate your mini's down, because it wasn't some GD quality, or if it was cuz you didn't belong to a studio.
This is really a gaming community, that while we all can be childish... we are gamers.... c'mon what you expect??
I feel like the feedback i get is honest without being harsh, and advice is given with the intent of being helpful not to be mean.
