Did you paint all the sutures in the Chaplain's skull freehand, or did the model already have them? Either way, that looks amazing.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Here is the recipe for the white.
1. Basecoat the areas a mix of Iyanden dark sun, Graveyard Earth and rotting flesh 1:5:1
2. Add a brush of Skull White to the mix and some more rotting flesh if you want.
3. carry on adding skull white (a brush at a time) and occasionally some bleached bone or rotting flesh. Add 1 more brush of skull white for every highlight. I used about 15 tonnes for the skull helmet.
The smaller the difference between the paint tones the smoother the painting looks... (There’s a painting competition tip)

I agree plus something like that would work great for pre-heresy.

Loving your work as usual Sons. On the Dreadnaught, it looks great and personally I'm looking at it for a possible Grey knight dready but I've heard ruleswise that a Venerable just doesn't stand up to a vanilla dread in terms of flexibility or value for points. Are you gonna run him as a Venerable or normal? Or are you less worried about how it plays then how it looks? Cheers BLACKHAND

Sons congratulations that is some truly beautiful work you have there, like others have said probably one of the best seen in a while now. I especially liked the conversions on the LR, subtle but very effective. One question, and you must excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is the process for basing your models? What I mean is how do ensure they will fit properly? Also do you pin them as well as glue them to the base or just glue?

Here are some more pics of the chaplain.

I had a bit of time yesterday evening so I got the parchment done. Many of you are asking for tutorials, they are on their way but as you may already know I’m at college 5 days a week and have work to do most evenings so I can’t do as much painting and blogging as I and you may have liked.
As to the questions:
@ Lennysmash:
1. I paint the top of the base with PVA glue and sprinkle it with crushed plaster scenery.
2. The bases are sprayed with chaos black then various shades of grey.
3. I use some SM legs to crush the plaster in the correct place and the superglue on the model.
4. The base and model are dusted with some weathering powder.
@ BLACKHAND: I’m not sure at the moment. I bought them 'cause they were so cool. I’ll choose when I work out an army list.
@ Mafty: I will put up a tutorial as soon as possible . There should be some tip in the article but I’ll do a proper one soon

thanks Automatically Appended Next Post: The first terminator is finished!

I think it looks pretty cool, especially with the weathering powder dusted on the lower legs; it ties the model in really well with the base. Have a look at the purity seal on his right shoulder pad; it was an experiment with some off cuts of etched brass, came of rather nicely.
There should be a lot more nice, big, tasty updates next week as its half term break
That if my lecturers don’t decide to give me a pile of coursework to do...

I love how he came out honestly. I appriate the fact of the dirtiness of the model as if he is wadeing through battle. the purple tint to the end of the weapon showing that his weapons humidity is up and ready to rock out and kill some scum. All around AMAZING I am loving this progect blog.

@ Vitruvian XVII : to answer your off topic question, I am studying maths, physics, chemistry and geography. I was taking art as well but it was too much work and I didn't particularly like the course provided by the college so I dropped it. I’m looking at studying material science/engineering at uni so I need some pretty good grades. Just out of interest why do you ask?
Now on to some 'on topic' questions
@ Llamahead : to be honest with you I do not have a clue. A friend of mine allowed me to raid his bits box about 3 years ago and that when I got it. I think its Bretonian though I’m not sure (I filed off all the crests and plumes etc).
@ Mafty : I did mention a couple of bits and bobs in this blog (that’s why I didn't link it) though I will put up a tutorial as soon as possible. In the meantime feel free to PM me or comment on this blog if you want to know anything in particular.
I applied the first 4 tone to all the bone areas on the model this evening. I also decided to paint the upper legs red to tie him in with the army. I intended to spend more time on this model (it being a character) than my other models so I am very pleased with it so far (after about 8 hours work). I’m planning to spend at least a month on my GD piece for this year so if this is what I can crack out in a couple of hours things are looking promising for this year. I just need to find "the" model. Something I won’t get bored of after a week's painting. But anyway that’s for later, in the meantime I’ve got this army to do... and here are some pics of today's work.

Definitely starting to take shape.
